Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox will be back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies at Golden 1 Center after clearing NBA health and safety protocols. Fox was cleared to return Sunday morning after being listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Saturday. He has missed the past four games after becoming one of seven Kings players to enter health and safety protocols amid the biggest COVID-19 outbreak the team has experienced since the start of the pandemic.

We didn’t follow the game plan — all of those things — and to be honest with you, it’s the most disappointing game that I’ve been involved with. This could have been the start of a midseason surge for the Kings (13-21), who welcomed back four players who missed four games apiece due to NBA health and safety protocols, including point guard De’Aaron Fox.

Interim coach Alvin Gentry was still seething during his postgame news conference after a clock malfunction cost the Kings a critical possession in a 122-114 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena. The Kings trailed by five when De’Aaron Fox went up for an uncontested rebound following a missed free throw by Malik Monk with 24.8 seconds remaining. Fox noticed the clock started running before he touched the ball, so he didn’t touch it at all.

I don’t think it’s there every night,” Haliburton said. If it was there every night, it would look a lot better. I don’t think we have a sense of urgency every night.

The Los Angeles Lakers won’t have Anthony Davis when they face the Kings on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center, but they will probably have LeBron James. The Lakers have routinely listed James as questionable since he was sidelined for eight games in November with a rectus abdominus strain. The four-time MVP hasn’t actually missed a game since briefly entering NBA health and safety protocols before a game against the Kings on Nov. 30.

The NBA trade deadline is a little over three weeks away and Kings fans are clamoring for change. The Kings (18-28) are 11th in the Western Conference, 1½ games behind the Portland Trail Blazers for the final play-in spot. Unless something changes, the Kings will miss the playoffs for the 16th year in a row, surpassing the Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers/Los Angeles Clippers for the longest playoff drought in NBA history.

The Pistons (10-33) will make their annual stop in Sacramento when they face the Kings (18-28) on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center, but this might not be the last time these teams hear from each other before the Feb. 10 NBA trade deadline.

I think the losses are stacking up and I think that’s something they would have to answer individually,” Gentry said. I would sure hope not because the opportunity that you have to be an NBA player and the lifestyle that it affords you, I think you’ve got to be crazy to quit.
