Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has been friends with Luke Walton long enough to know he was facing an uncertain future in Sacramento before the Kings even started the season. Kerr discussed Walton’s situation and the pitfalls of coaching in the NBA during a recent stop in Sacramento, saying he is “pulling for” his former protégé as he tries to save himself and pull the Kings out of a 15-year playoff drought. This is obviously a big year for him,” Kerr said.

The Kings (6-12) might be the ones who get cooked by the Blazers (10-8), who have won four in a row with wins over the Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets. Lakers star LeBron James is considered questionable for Friday night’s game against the Kings, but Sacramento has a couple of question marks in its starting lineup as well. Kings center Richaun Holmes and forward Harrison Barnes were both listed as questionable on the team’s injury report Thursday. Holmes has a right eye contusion that caused him to miss Wednesday’s 125-121 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Picking on the Kings is one thing, but Slamson is one cool cat. Most of these mascots are friendly and fun, but Slamson recently proved to be the ultimate team player when he got down on his paws to help arena workers clean up after a fan barfed on the court.

Terrence Davis scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half and the Sacramento Kings beat the Los Angeles Clippers for the second time in four nights with a 104-99 victory Saturday. Davis made all four of his 3-point attempts in the third quarter and finished 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. Tyrese Haliburton added 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for Sacramento, which beat the Clippers 124-115 on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton returned to practice Tuesday after missing a day due to illness as his team prepared to face the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center. Interim coach Alvin Gentry explained Haliburton wasn’t feeling well Monday after getting a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, but he felt much better Tuesday. It was just the aftereffects of the booster shot that he got,” Gentry said.
