Holmes seemed to have an established role as the team’s starting center for the foreseeable future when he re-signed with the Kings last summer, but nothing has gone as planned.

I think the mood is definitely a bit better,” Fox said. It’s definitely different when guys come into new situations, guys coming from Indiana, guys coming from Detroit and Donte coming from Milwaukee … it’s like a breath of fresh air when you have a change of scenery. The Nuggets have developed a winning culture centered around stars like Jokic and Murray, which the Kings have been searching for during the entirety of Vivek Ranadive’s ownership tenure. Oddly enough, a steward of Denver’s culture is coach Mike Malone, who was unceremoniously fired by Ranadive from the same position following an 11-13 start to the 2014-15 season. So I asked Malone before Thursday’s game about the key to sustainability as a mid-market team.

Fox addressed the situation on Twitter after tabling the project, saying he underestimated the amount of time and energy the project would require. Monte Morris hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 28 seconds left, Nikola Jokic had 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, and the Denver Nuggets beat the Sacramento Kings 115-110 on Saturday night. It was Jokic’s 16th triple-double of the season and the 73rd of his career. His rebound with 19 seconds remaining finished the triple-double and helped Denver to its second win over the Kings in three nights.

Jokic, the reigning MVP, finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Cousins had nine points, eight rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot for Denver, which improved to 9-0 with him coming off the bench.

The NBA acknowledged Sunday that officials missed a critical call against reigning MVP Nikola Jokic during the final minute of the Kings’ 115-110 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night at Ball Arena. According to the Last Two Minute Report, Jokic should have been called for an illegal screen on De’Aaron Fox with 31.1 seconds remaining.

The Kings needed a win in the worst way to gain ground in the Western Conference play-in race, but Brandon Ingram wouldn’t allow it, scoring 33 points to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a resounding 125-95 victory.

Brandon Ingram scored 33 points on 15-of-19 shooting and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Sacramento Kings 125-95 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. Ingram scored 28 of his points before being briefly forced out of the game by an elbow to the face from Damian Jones. But he returned in the fourth quarter to make a tough turnaround, a transition 3-pointer and a couple of heady assists that helped New Orleans snuff out any hope the Kings had of coming back.

The Kings arrived in southern Texas about seven hours before their game against the San Antonio Spurs after a mechanical issue forced them to spend an extra night in New Orleans, and then they almost ran out of gas. Sacramento sputtered and fell behind by four in the fourth quarter after leading by 19 in the third, but the travel-weary Kings still found a way to win in a 115-112 victory on Thursday night at AT&T Center.
