2011 Lotto Watch

Not too shabby, lotto-wise. The Cavs have a pretty easy finish, and so do the Wizards. It seems that the T-Wolves are the only ones who could make a strong push to suppplant the Cavs, as they have the more difficult schedule.

Top two is going to be hard to get. We need help from ping pong balls and other teams to pass on draft day on the two players a lot of Kings fans are hoping for. It happens.

Yeah, top 2 is luck of the draw. You can guarantee yourself a top 5 pick by playing poorly enough, but you still have to luck into the top 2.

FU Wizards... you blow. Losing to the Bulls by 40 is one thing. Losing to the Blazers by 35 is another. Nah I'm just kidding, we are pretty similar teams. We deserve Kyrie more then them though.

I wonder if Wash would take Irving though. One positive, with two of the teams we're battling for the top pick, in Wash and Minn, is that they have pg's. Why would Wash take Irving? PG is the one position they're set. Minn will do everthing in its power to bring Rubio over. Drafting another pg, after what happened in 09, would be an absolutely stupid move by them.

But so would taking Wes Johnson over Cousins. Cle would snatch him up without thinking twice. Even if we don't get the top pick, as long as Wash and Minn pick ahead of us, I'm much more confident we could get Irving. All speculation though.

Good points Rain, but I think one thing we can never rule out is the questionable decisions (or statements: see signature) of Kahn!... I hope that is how it shakes out if we were to get the third pick, and Cleveland somehow pulled a Sacramento and ended up with 4th pick. Let's look at the bright side, I think the worst (err best) record we can get is 4th worst, barring some kind of winning streak and our competition losing out the rest of their schedule.

Just a quick update to get the Wizards' loss onto the board. Lots of games today - we could potentially move as far as a three-way tie for 8th depending on how things go.

Kings record: 17-52
Kings max wins: 30
Highest possible lottery position: t-10
Minimum lottery combos: 9
Possible draft range: 1-14
Next team to eliminate us: Golden State Warriors (30-41)
Current Competition:
Cleveland Cavaliers (13-56, 13 remaining, 9 against teams under .500, 7 at home)
Minnesota Timberwolves (17-54, 11 remaining, 1 against teams under .500, 5 at home)
Sacramento Kings (17-52, 13 remaining, 3 against teams under .500, 5 at home)
Washington Wizards (17-52, 13 remaining, 7 against teams under .500, 5 at home)
Toronto Raptors (20-50, 12 remaining, 6 against teams under .500, 5 at home)
New Jersey Nets (22-47, 13 remaining, 5 against teams under .500, 5 at home)

Looks like Kings are a lock for no higher than 4th in ping pong balls. Not a bad place to be in. Rainman makes good points about the pg, with other teams already having one. Doesn't Minnesota have three? At least two, if they count Rubio, and Kahn is so high on Rubio, why pick Irving?

I'm guessing that the Nets become irrelevant today, with their 23rd win.

Assuming that the Wizards still can't win a game on the road (playing Clips at Staples tonight), that means the only thing keeping us out of 4th place would be a lin in tonight's matchup with the Bucks.

We will see...

Nice win tonight. Doesn't help the lotto position, but I'll take it. In fact, as far as the Lotto Watch goes, pretty much everything was out of our favor tonight (including the Wizards clutching defeat from the jaws of victory in double OT). On the other hand, Jim Crandall's tease, even if only a tease, makes none of that seem to matter at all...

Come on twolves, finish up the season strong!

V4GM, old pal, what would finishing the season strong entail? They're playing @DAL, @OKC, BOS, CHI, MIA, @MEM, @NJN, PHO, @DEN, @PHO, HOU. They can't be close to the favorite in even one of those games. I can easily imagine their winning zero more games, but winning three seems like a huge stretch.

Root for Washington and Toronto instead, their schedules are way easier.

Way to fvck the season up with a couple of wins lol.. Wolves showed they're an elite tanking team, they threw that game against us like pros, and are going to continue doing so till the end of the season.

I've already accepted loosing the 2nd worst seed, but now we're fvcking it up so much we might even fall 5th before we know it.

Imma start hoping we loose next season too, this seems to do the trick and cause us to blow teams up:mad:

Anything can happen in the lottery. Hopefully we're the ones to leap frog the other teams. And remember, the last two years we've really ended the season horribly and weren't awarded in the lottery so maybe ending the season on a strong note will be taken into consideration by the basketball gods ;)

Haven't you realized from the last 2 drafts tanking doesn't guarantee you anything? We picked 4th and 5th, which were petty much the absolute worst spots we could possibly pick given our record, yet we ended up getting 2 of the top 3 players on both drafts combined.

Our guys need confidence, and need to start winning some games so they don't develop a losing mentality. Most would agree this team should have more wins then they have. We need to build for the future. Winning 3 of 4, and possibly ending the season on a high note can only help these guys mentally going into the offseason and next year.

We'll still get a good pick. If you want Irving, you should be happy we're competing with Minn and Wash, who already have pg's. But we need to build, and a few wins, and finishing strong might help in resigning Sammy, and maybe attracting an AK47 or Prince.

It could be a Portland* or OKC situation all over again. (Although if OKC had lost a few more games, they could have wound up with a core of Griffin/Durant/Westbrook)

*Discounting the fact that they took Oden rather than Durant.

Hasn't stopped Kahn before.

Get me Derrick Williams and I will be happy. :D We need him more than Irving and Williams is going to be a definite star. Don't pass him up because he seems to be a hybrid forward.

I'd love to have Williams but I think we have to win as rainmaker has written. We are now showcasing our team for the free agents. Who knows, the ping pong balls might fall right, we get the #1 pick and we get a top shooting forward free agent. I have no problem with SF being taken up by two that are better than anyone we have.

Yeah, I agree, I wasn't saying we shouldn't try and win games. More just that if we have the opportunity to get Williams, we sure as hell better take him.

I just can't stop myself from salivating over a Reke/Thornton/Derrick Williams/Dally/Cuz lineup...

Well, "tanking" discussion aside, we played a very solid game tonight, the kind that I thought we would put together throughout the season. Wasn't to be this year, but next year might be the year that we gel. Even so, Golden State finally got the win tonight to guarantee us something better than 14th place. That earns us a whole two lotto combos, which isn't much, but there are definitely a few more to be earned in the short term.

Kirilenko, Boozer, Prince, Battier. All I can remember.

Boozer isn't a free agent. Battier will be 33 next year. Prince will be 31 going on 32 next year, and I don't see the big deal about him. Kirlenko may be decent, but he'll be 30 going on 31 next year and he's had a career full of injuries. I don't see the point in wasting cap space on so-so role players on the wrong side of 30.

I know that having experience is a negative on this board. Why did you ask? Do you honestly think there are no free agent SFs this year? Perhaps there are none in that close to all star quality not too old and not too young category.

Besides, you obviously already knew.

I just read an article that said what the Kings need. It said a veteran. I agree. I would prefer it be a SF. Heck, I would like to draft a SF and get a SF free agent. I want a veteran and by definition they will be "old." Can't remember the powerhouse in the league, maybe it is Dallas, but they have over half their team and I think well over half that are over 30 years of age. You can prove me wrong but why not offer a suggestion?

Who do you think we should go after?

They're not FA's but I see Por trading either Wallace or Batum. Batum can't develop with Wallace playing 35 mins per, and Wallace has said he expects to start, and is will still be at a near allstar level for a few years. Add Roy, Matthews, and Fernandez into their wing rotation, and something has to give.
