2010 Free Agency: Redux

Okay, so the Kings are having thier best start in 3 years; Tyreke Evans is an absolute stud. Casspi is a real NBA caliber player. The Maloofs have said publicly that they want to make a splash in the summer of 2010 with a free agent signing.

So who do you foresee the Kings signing? I doubt LBJ will come to Sac, but there are a lot of other great players available... what addition could really help these young Kings become the playoff-contending Kings?

Personally, I think the Kings could pull off a coup and potentially sign a Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudamire, Boozer, Dirk, Manu, Yao Ming or even a DWade.

They have a Vegas Casino, a tough minded, young team, a good (so far) coach, and cap space. And, yes, I understand they are in the smallest NBA market and why would a DWade want to a project team... I get it. But it is possible.

Honestly, I think our best bet in nabbing one of those big name free agents is to trade for one at the deadline when his team tanks this season, pick up the bird rights and gamble that a combination of him theoretically gelling with the team and the Kings being able to pay more than anyone else will convince him to stay.

The last time Sacramento was able to sign a big name free agent outright that I can rememeber (before they became contenders of course) was Vlade and that was specifically because he wanted to come back to California and play with Peja.

Yao Ming - injury prone

I'm curious, where did you get the idea that Wade was a prima donna. I've never heard anything at all like that about him. I agree with your anology about the others.

What about Joe Johnson? Too old? He'd be a full-sized guard who's both a playmaker, scorer, and above-average defender. That brings up the Kevin Martin issue again though. Or maybe Rudy Gay at SF? Or will Donte or Omri be ready to take over the starting role soon? Our roster is already heavy on guards and wing players, but I'm not all that enthused about the big men available. Tyrus Thomas has shown flashes of potential. Maybe wait another year and see if we can steal Oden from Portland?

I think the point he was trying to make was cap room maybe irrelevant if they don't have the actual budget to pay the person.
