2009 Draft Picks

#1
This is kind of a sister thread to theother one but I feel it's a different concept.

The Kings will definately be a top 5 pick this season. Everybody post there top 5 Draft choices or pre rankings if you will. I'll give it a few weeks and average them out to see what Kings fans think about who to draft.

Yes it's suppose to say 2009.

Yeah, for the 2009 draft,
1.Griffin(best player in this draft by a large amount, at least Carlos Boozer)
2.Ricky Rubio(risky, but has great talent and skill)
3.Hasheem Thabeet(Spencer Hawes is not enough of a defensive presence at center that the Kings need)
4.Greg Monroe(can become a great player on offense and defense, but I don't know how he would fit in the rotation)
5.Jrue Holiday(great all around point guard, I think he will be a Russell Westbrook type player, maybe better)

Since the headline was changed...

1. Jeff Teague
2. Blake Griffn (assuming he's 6'9")
3. Craig Brackins
4. Hasheem Thabeet
5. B.J. Mullens

B.J. hasn't really impressed me much and I would not take him anywhere near the top 5. Also would he be that much of an improvement over Spencer Hawes?
He's about seven thousand times more athletic than Hawes. He's still a work in progress, but he's improving a lot. He's a different player than he was early in the season.

1) James Hardin SG (if Rubio available I go w/6'4 Spanish PG phenom)
Surest bet in draft, IMO. 6'5-6'6 smooth lefty, very hard to guard. Can be in the Ginobili lefty mode of instant bench offense, but looks to be a solid defender as well - pesky in your face like Manu. Could probably start in NBA right away, but certainly in a year. Looks good in Kings uni if certain guard/wing players traded beforehand.

2) Hasheem Thabeet C (his stock continues to rise w/me somehow)
I roll my eyes at his zero offensive post moves and lack of passing skill, but he's a legit 7'2-7'3 and Miller will be gone sooner rather than later it would seem. We're going to need a big mobile body to check Oden, Bynum, etc. for next 10 years. He can fill that defensive role very well.

3) Blake Griffin PF (his stock slides a bit as question remains over his height for tough inside NBA competition)
He's not 6'10 as listed almost all say. He may not even be 6'9. I personally think he's around 6'8.75 in shoes - yikes! There's no doubt the dude is a big time stud in NCAA right now. However, in NBA may not translate quite as awesome unless you think he's another Charles Barkley who was listed 6'6 yet only 6'4, still brutalized opposing bigger PF's in the league for over a decade. I'm just not sold as a top 2 pick - maybe 3 or 4.

4-5) I really think Kings will get top 1-3 and not have to worry about 4-5.
Kind of a crap shoot beyond 3 (or 4 w/Rubio) as I see it. If I had to list my faves right now I'd go with J. Hill, G. Monroe, Teague, Jennings.

I have to agree with the players, and your comments, but not the order.

Not necessarily the best players, but who I want the Kings to draft:

1. Rubio
2a. Griffin
2b. Monroe
4. Thabeet
5. Holiday

If Rubio doesn't declare, then move everyone up 1 n put Teague at #5

Yes, I agree that B.J. is much more athletic than Spencer Hawes and has shown great moments, but in my mind he isn't ready for the NBA. He could turn into a great big man, but it is just too risky to take him with the third pick when there are other players with just as much upside and less downside.

1) Teague
2) Thabeet
3) Rubio*
4) Griffin
5) Brackens
5*) DaJuan Summers

*= if he does not declare, i would move everyone up one and put DaJuan Summers in at #5. I know its a reach but I see a lot of potential from this kid.

I think Jennings needs to be on any of these short lists too. No one is doubting his physical skills and he has good fundamentals, but his stock has taken a hit since he is playing in a top league overseas. I really think he is being undervalued right now. He's a PG who creates for teammates, but who can also create his own shot and has the physical skills to beat players at the NBA level and be a good defender.

Just my two cents.

Not sure why you think he's undervalued unless your talking about people on this board. NBADraft has him at #5 and DX has him at #9. NBADraft has no PG ahead of him, and DX only has Holiday who probably won't enter, and Teague as the only PG's ahead of him.

Because Jennings is playing overseas, I don't get to see him hardly at all, while Teague and Holiday are one ESPN every week. And, just like Rubio, most of what I know about them is what I read. So, certainly I have a better feeling about NCAA players. The important thing to remember is that GP will most certainly have seen all the PG's in action multiple times, and he's the one making the final choic. In GP we trust.

IMHO, Rubio & Holiday won't enter until next year which will make 2010 the Draft of the PG. With John Wall, Rubio, Holiday & Kemba Walker all projected as top 10 picks, look for GP to not draft a PG in 2009. Instead, I would look for a trade or FA to fill the gap until 2010.

True...Kemba walker shows some flashes of some freaky freaky potential. Definitely doesnt have his game put together yet for the next level, but when he does, which i assume would be next year running the point once price leaves, he could be something else...

Yeah, meant mostly on the board. If those guys don't declare, I could see you being right about Petrie holding off on PG till 2010. Or as an alternative, going big with our pick and using the Rockets pick on a Mills/Flynn/Collison type PG and giving them the reigns for a season to see if we can hit a homerun or at least get a good backup.

Ugh....Im not sold on Teague like the rest of you guys..but anyways

1. Ricky Rubio (If he declares)
2. Blake Griffin (Number 1 if Rubio doesn't declare)
3. Stephen Curry......Yes, I said it. Dude is a monster.
4. James Harden
5. I really dont like anyone else......at least to take this high in the draft.

I read somewhere that we had some other future draft picks, is this true? If so, what year and what round? Probably not any first rounders or I would have known...

We have a future Houston first-round pick, which is top-15 protected this year, and I'm not sure how the protection falls off after that. To the best of my knowledge, Houston's pick is the only pick we are currently due, and we have not traded away any future picks, first or second round.

Yeah, I meant besides the Houston one but i thought it was lottery protected, not top 15? It doesn't matter very much, because I doubt their pick will be in the lottery or top 15.
