I'd like to see one of the beat writers ask Brown, "Coach, you're second-to-last in the league in threes allowed, how long do you plan to let that continue before you reconsider your defensive philosophy?"
"Coach, your defense is allowing 6 more 3's per game compared to the last 2 seasons, but remains near the bottom of the league in 3pt% allowed. What's changed with the scheme this year to allow more 3's, even though teams are making them at such a high clip?"

I just don't get why he deserves that position over Christie. Doug is a great defensive mind who was an all defensive caliber NBA player
I don't know if Doug deserves that position either. Just because you're a great defensive player, doesn't make you a great defensive coach.

I sure as hell know that whoever is in charge of this "allow as many 3's as possible, but don't defend them" strategy is NOT deserving of the job. I assume it's Loucks. May as well give Christie a shot, because this just is not going to work.

Problem is, we're "scheming" opposing defenses to get 3's now. The last 2 years, we just couldn't defend it.

9th in 3PA last year. 29th in 3pt %

15th in 3PA allowed 2 years ago. 26th in 3pt %

Teams are shooting 6+ more 3's per game vs us this season than the previous 2 years. Our 3pt defense has remained awful, but there's a clear design here to scheme them shooting more 3's vs paint touches.
That's how failure and gimmicks usually work. Over the course of time more and more teams can scheme towards your scheme. Every team runs some sort of help off the corners, the issue is the Kings put almost zero pressure on the ball handler at times and switch into soft pressure. That's just asking for the opposing team to ram the ball right up your backside in draw and kick. Part of it is also players like Huerter not exactly being able to stick guys on pressure. Monk has issues there as well. DeRozan has been OK, but historically he's getting beat too. Lyles tries but he's been targeted in pick and roll a lot this season. The Kings turned it around last season running a small guard lineup too with Davion and Ellis really spearheading it. That tells me it's not necessarily size that makes the difference up. If they had size maybe pressuring wouldn't be so important but pressuring when you play small is usually a given. Strange stuff.

Christie was considered, to some degree, for the head coaching position. He's plenty qualified for lead defense and knows how to communicate well with the players

QTNA: is the Kings' inability to get those players failure on the Kings' part, or do those players just not want to be in Sacramento?
I think it’s a failure on the Kings part. They are easily attainable. Most are second rounders or can be acquired for second rounders…and the Kings clearly need them.

I questioned last season if Monte can see value in a player like PJ Washington for example. Beyond his aimlessness on Charlotte. If he can envision him as a valuable 3 and D role player like he would go on to be in Dallas last season.

He made a daring move when he acquired Domas and then looked really smart as it started coming together with Monk and Huerter..and the Keegan pick atleast proved that he wasn’t allergic to lengthy forwards..I’ve since question if he has run out of ideas and is leaning on “name players”.

Like the rumors last season of going after DeJounte Murray when he clearly wouldn’t be a fit. Cutting a young athletic big in Queta to bring in Javale McGee. Now Queta plays meaningful and fairly productive minutes for the best team in the NBA. All the targets you hear about, it’s never anything under the radar that would improve the versatility of the team. Like the aforementioned PJ Washington. It’s always “Kyle Kuzma!” Or expensive players that won’t address the lingering problems of the team in the Mike Brown era.

I’ve just been baffled by his lack on interest to directly address the frontcourt and wing versatility, size, and athleticism outside of the hit or mostly miss two way market.

It’s been YEARS

And Doug has been being groomed for a long time. Tons of organizations have that dude who is involved in a ton of aspects of the franchise in general. DC has basically done it all including in front of the camera. It's like with BoJax though. Wait too long and someones poaching if they do have potential.

Brown has been reallllyyyy bad this season. Monte constructed a very unbalanced roster not fit to defend the modern NBA. The result is what you see this season.

Hot take, but I think it’s time to tear everything down and do a proper rebuild for once. Trade Fox, Sabonis, DDR and maybe Keegan for draft capital and prospects.

That's a little dramatic. We are still only 16 games in. But, yeah, not looking great right now. Not sure I can go through another 3-5 years of being the laughingstock

Well, is it on Monte if we're NOT playing the all-defensive team candidate 30 MPG? And he obviously got more help with Carter being an expected defensive dynamo.

This is the most talented team in Sactown in the last 15+ years. Some mismatching parts but there's a lot of talent to work with. We're not playing with purpose and certainly not to our strengths.

And the players are out of sync together. The issue is this should be a good team and they probably won't be any worse than last season, the hope was that they'd be better. And yeah, plenty of time.
