This is kind of going to be an issue with Keon more than likely. Teams started doing this to him more towards the end of last year too, they're going to force that switch and he's getting swallowed if the player has any level of handling ability. Playing with another non switchable guard is just playing with fire at that point.

They won't do it until they can trade at least one of these vets. Going to be an even longer season than we assumed

Knowing the Kings, they'll rip off 4 random wins in a row or something and that will push off any emphasis on the future until the deadline for sure.

It's a no doubt issue if you have him matched up against a 3, while playing with 2 other guards

Seems like a pretty easy fix to me. Don't play 4 and 5 guard lineups. Keon is best deployed guarding PGs which means you want him next to a playmaking 2 guard like Nique. If we had Keegan at SF able to switch onto and keep ball handlers in front of him and a real defensive presence in the paint backing everyone up then these plays where Keon is forced to defend a taller player near the basket would go away.

You know what could go a long way towards figuring that out? Playing time.
 
Didn’t watch this game or the last game. It’s probably been about 5 years since I was so apathetic towards this team that I wouldn’t at least go back and quickly flip through the game on replay. Until we make a move or I start seeing the young guys getting 20+ min a a game I just am not really interested. I forgot altogether this game was on but what’s the point at this point checking it out.

I think it's kind of figured. The moment we saw players start to manipulate his position with the off hand the cat was out of the bag. The first player I remember really doing it was Kyrie, then others followed. It's just goes with the territory of weighing 165 pounds soaking wet. Keons done a decent job of dealing with it but it's all based on giving up lanes to try and strip the ball. Not really something a player should be relying on come playoff time however. Stars are going to get the whistle more often than not.

Well gee, it's too bad we didn't have another defensive guard here who was freakishly good at denying dribble penetration. Oh wait we did, and Monte gave him away for nothing.

I'm guessing you're also referring to Devin Carter? The difference I see there is that Davion has better foot technique which allows him to avoid cheap fouls. Carter is more into pressing his strength advantage which is subject to the whims of the officials. But it's hard to know your sure when Carter isn't in the rotation. Bollocks to that.

Thank you. This is Ellis game in a nutshell.

He needs to take his conditioning serious one off season. He must gain some weight if he wants to actually be a true effective defender. Being able to guard pgs and small sgs cannot make you a elite defender. All they need to do is switch on Ellis and its either a foul, a easy bully basket. Or 1 out of 10 times a steal.

Those are terrible odds

Jones Jr went down with a knee injury tonight, the report I read said it might be serious too.

On top of the loss(?) of Beal, maybe Deebo becomes an option for them and Deebo would be cool with going to LA

Carter just has way more strength to handle bigger guys. If your small in nba trying to guard your going to get fouls called against you. Your going to rely more on hands than body position. That dont bold well in nba

I don't know. After Mike Bibby bulked up and lost all touch on his jumper I'm hesitant to prescribe weight training as a catch all solution for smaller players. Keon's shooting is what has kept him on the floor, I'd hate to lose that for the sake of positional versatility on defense.

Davion is like the prime example of a player not relying on their hands to play defense.

I'd say the same thing happened with Murray. I agree it seems you lose a little on the 3 side. But what you gain is a complete player.

How may 3 and D pgs are there in this league? That title is normally reserved for large sfs and pfs because they can actually switch

Devin is a lot more switchable though so it might balance out. Mitchell got a few seasons of semi legit playing time to figure things out. What they're doing to Devin Carter and thus themselves is ridiculous.
