Yep, one of the things King need is veteran leadership. I think that is even more important the long term strategy for the Kings.
Kings are not in win now mode and it will take at least 2-3 seasons to clear up cap mess and be serious (potentially) contender.
It does not make too much sense to me to pay 3-4 mil more for a guy who will be past his peak in 2-3 seasons and get rid of the player that has potential AND current capabilities to be second major piece of Kings championship contender few years down the road.
I know that stats do not tell the whole story, but here is comparison between Iggy's career stats vs Reke's last season stats adjusted for 20% less playing time:
Reb 5.3 vs 5.3
Ast 4.9 vs 4.2
To 2.4 vs 2.4
Stl 1.7 vs 1.7
Blk .5 vs .5
Pts 15.1 vs 18.2
3pt .9 vs .8
fg% 46 vs 47.8
ft% 72.4 vs 77.5
3pt% 32.9 vs 33.8
I would keep Evans and look for veteran leadership from some of the players on the declining side that have couple of seasons left in them but have history. Folks like what was Grant Hill 2-3 years ago.
Use those extra 3-4 mills to lure them on short 1-2 years contract.
They cannot all play for Miami
Leaving 16Mil on the table, Iggy will without doubt look for long term expensive contract.
Just for giggles, how about 35+ years old Paul Pierce whose contract expires next year and might be available this year if rumors are true. Doubt there will be many suitors ready to throw 3-4 years Iggy type money at him. Might be possible signing him for couple of years and keeping Reke.
Do not think that has much chance of happening but makes more sense to me than replacing Reke with Iggy.
