From Bucher, whom I have little respect for, but some of this is interesting nonetheless.

Obvious bias and opinion in this, but if the bolded is true it does add to this.
Given the source, I would be willing to bet that it's completely opposite to what is reported!

I do find it interesting that some good names that might be available are not linked to us. I specifically mean Penn, Pritchard etc...

Given Bucher's record on this whole thing I frankly don't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth at this point.
agreed. however, even if bucher's just doing his usual out-of-his-*** routine, the logic is sound. i've been wholly impressed by mike malone thus far, but it hasn't really been much of a "thus far," has it? it's been one press conference, a couple of interviews, and rumblings about the likely composition of his staff. and it's not exactly like it's tough work to win over a fanbase that's dealt with the last seven years of maloofian coaching hires...

bottom line: malone's still unproven as a head coach, and he's gotta get on the sideline and earn it. most league insiders seem to believe he's cut out for it, but he's gonna need a few assists from a GM who can help him along the way, and if we at kf.com are home to significant trepidation regarding the hiring of a capable GM, i imagine ranadive's group of minority owners are likewise rather nervous about the prospect of bringing in a rookie head coach and a rookie GM in year one. they've got serious money on the line, and the wrong kind of GM can send this thing off the rails before it's really even begun...

that said, it certainly does seem like bucher is paid to state the obvious these days...

For all I know, some or all of the above may have been contacted and had no interest

^^ He admits right here in his article that he is talking our of his ***.

also, this was tweeted shortly after that stupid article.

Kings owner meeting with Larry Bird today means decision on hiring president is on hold. Source says asking 5M per, maybe piece of team

I wonder how much validity there is to this......

D: We gon' get Larry Bird!

Kingjatt, at $5 mil per year, I'd pay it (if I were Vivek) ....lol. Larry Bird does enjoy a small market, so you never know ????!!
at 5 mil it would probably make him the highest paid GM in nba history, but it would be a worthy short-term investment as we move towards a new arena, he a genius in building up small market teams having done it more than once in indiana, maybe vivek signs him for 3 yrs while grooming an assistant to take over as bird probably doesnt want to stick around too long.

Pretty sure there is a clause in the NBA that only two people from French Lick Indiana can be involved with a franchise at once. Some tough decisions ahead.

Well this sounds interesting. I remember at some point in the discussion before the BOG vote hearing rumors of a "Big Name" connected to the Randive group for what it is worth.

The drop-off between Larry Bird and the next available GM is so great that $5m a year doesn't seem like much of a problem to me. But then it's not my money. :) And I'm really liking where this could be headed. Malone wants to add a top level defender somehow. Bird grew up in and later worked in Indiana. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Oladipo! If we get all three this would already qualify as the best off-season I can remember.

Don't you know about the Bird?
Well everybody's heard about the Bird !

Bird bird bird, the bird is the word !
Bird bird bird, the bird is the word ! Yeah !

I hate to keep piling on Chris (ok, that's not true) but the longer this drags on, the more Wallace seems like the guy we'll get if none of the guys we want take it. Not really a good thing.

In Malone, Vivek saw the coach that fit with his vision for the future of the Kings. He clearly intends to find the GM that also matches. I like that he hasn't made a "rush to judgment" decision, as the person he selects will have a lasting impact on the team for several years to come. He's building a foundation before putting the roof on, so to speak. A bad coach can cost us a season, while a bad GM can cost us a decade.
Well said! Actually a bad GM can cost us more than a decade. Just ask Joe Axelson!

Looks like we're gonna give Morway a shot to state his case

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/228018/Kings-To-Interview-David-Morway

The Sacramento Kings will interview David Morway on Friday for their general manager position.

Chris Wallace, Travis Schlenk and Mike Dunleavy have also interviewed for the position.

Morway worked with Larry Bird in the front office of the Indiana Pacers. Bird has been in touch with Vivek Ranadive, though there has been no formal interview.

Meh, I'm thinking this means the opposite for him

Ive never heard of a "frontrunner" being put on hold from 3 weeks To possibly a month.

no substantial new news, but here's another tidbit on the Bird situation

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/k...ngs-interviewing-morway-unlikely-to-land-bird

The Kings are continuing to pursue former Pacers president Larry Bird, but a person briefed on Bird's plans told CBSSports.com on Friday that it would be surprising if Bird took the job. If the Kings were able to add a big name -- they've also spoken with Mike Dunleavy and Hall of Famer Chris Mullin -- it would be for the role of team president with the authority to hire a GM. Another possibility would be to hire a top basketball mind to serve in a role similar to Jerry West's advisory role with Golden State, where Ranadive was a minority owner before becoming the managing owner of the Kings.

My thoughts as well. The longer this takes the less likely it is that Wallace or any the so called front runners will land the job. This is looking more and more like a search for Mr right than a search for Mr. Right Now.

The Denver Nuggets have granted permission to the Kings for them to speak with VP of basketball ops Pete D'Alessandro about their GM job.
