Down to the wire and other news, rumors, etc.

We still need the Maloofs to agree to the Sacramento deal. I doubt if you'll hear any public figure make a negative comment about them, now or later. And I think we can take a page from Carmichael Dave and not find it necessary to ruin our day by talking about the Maloofs.

Sorry, but I've enjoyed Grant today and that's not something you'll hear me say very often at all.
Nothing from what I read or anything, but if we put down the 50% deposit on Friday, I think the NBA just buys the Kings from the Maloofs ASAP and let those clowns go chase a NHL/MLB team or what ever they like.

When the Maloofs go, I want Grant gone. There must be accountability for what he's done in a place of public persuasion.
Patience. There will be time for all the other changes that need to be made. I don't like Grant but he's been a very loud supporter this season. Let's just focus on that and ignore the less enjoyable parts about him today.

This sounds ideal. I don't know how the league will do it, but I don't think they will let the Maloofs muck this up. The league is not making this up as they go. There is some sort of plan in place to make the transition as smooth as possible. Completed in advance of the lottery selection.

I'd have zero issue with a new broadcast team. None at all. I'd actually encourage it, or at the least have Grant do one or the other, radio or PBP, not both.

But, it's also far from the top of my list of concerns. New owners, new FO, NEW COACH, a positive trade or two, I'm ecstatic, and I really won't care if Grant is here or not.

The league does not typically buy teams. They will exert considerable pressure on the Maloofs to accept the Sacramento deal. And, unlike some, I do not think the Maloofs will try any longer to drag out the process. The relocation committee spoke loud and clear with their unanimous vote against moving the Kings. They as much as told the Maloofs it was THEIR fault for the failings of the franchise, not the city or the fans. Strong message...

The league will only step in if there's a real snag in the process. And at this point, there is really no reason to assume there will be.

Congratulations to everyone involved, the people of Sacramento, and also the persons who supported the Kings from a far.

This shows that Sacramento is well respected within the NBA.

It will be interesting to see how the team develops over the next few seasons and I look forward to following them.

He's really not, and I don't know how he's gotten this rep among some Kings fans. He's easily one of the worst, though that's a discussion for another time.
Liking or disliking Grant Napear is purely personal preference. I don't understand people who say he's the worst OR the best. He is who he is, and there are easily as many who like him as those who find him annoying.

I will say one thing - he has been a true supporter of the Kings, the city of Sacramento and the fans. And for today, that's more than good enough for me. I'd listen to Tommy Heinsohn if it meant keeping our team. :)

What do you make of the Ranadive group putting 50% in escrow this Friday if the Maloofs don't have to accept the deal? Something is happening behind the scenes in regards to this sale that requires the deposit to be made before the Maloofs and Randive are legally aloud to sit across the table from eachother and make a deal. Not saying it's going to happen, but it makes sense for the league to step in and take the team and sell it to Randive. Quickest route.

The NBA is acting on behalf of Sacramento. The Maloofs WILL accept, there is no question about it.

Did anyone notice one of the senator's veiled reference to "growth", with a nod and a wink to KJ? I wonder if KJ is lining up investors for a second sport team? Obvious thought would be the return of the Monarchs, but perhaps NHL?

I'm hoping that if there's another pro-sports franchise out there that could be a second tenant to the arena we make an effort to draw them in. NOT with the Clowns as owners, though!!!

They had mentioned that while the arena would be primarily for basketball that it would also be equipped to handle hockey.... Take it for what it's worth but i would turn into an NHL fan overnight if expansion paid us a visit. Not to mention back in the 90s when we would host Sharks games at Arco the place would be packed (standing room only) for pre-season games and most people weren't even hockey/Sharks fans..

Honestly, I know Im in the minority on this board but I really love listening to Grant and Jerry. Again, aware Im in the minority.
I think I love listening to them when the team in general is playing a certain style that I am happy with. They are the ultimate homers, and will praise whatever the coach says and whatever is happening on the court. When we have a savvy coach and a good product on the floor it will be enjoyable listening to them. In many ways they are very very passionate about the team and are like fellow fans. However, when they are defending Coach Keith not-so Smart and don't go 10 seconds without saying "hustlin huskie" then they become very, very annoying, like Jimmer fans who think he is the next coming of Jordan.

Anyway, congratulations to all you sac fans! Really really ecstatic that we get to keep our team in Sacramento!

I have never understood this (no offense). I find him to be awful at PBP and downright embarrassing at times.
Maybe its just nostalgia thats making me love listening to our guys but I really have heard a lot of local broadcasters that either flat out bored me or I thought sucked. When I lived in LA I thought the Lakers broadcasters sucked.

You may be in the minority and maybe not. But this is not really at all about Napear's quarter century play-by-play call of Kings games as it is his traitorous two-faced brown nose Maloof worship for years. It was only recently, very recently, that he began to get on the local bandwagon that was a runaway train of support for Kings staying with Maloofs disappearing. Now the Napear train like the Maloof train has left the station as far as I'm concerned and its about time the arrogant twit along with his sleazy pals are finally run out of town on a rail for good.

Oh i agree. I lived in LA as well and i could not stand the Lakers broadcast. Clippers were ok, but mainly because i liked Lawler and Walton was just crazy.

Disagree with that last part. For well over a year he didn't support the fans of the city, as it was us against the Maloofs, and he backed them, while shouting down numerous fans who called into his show, even fabricating truths about the Maloofs to make them appear better.

And imo, you can't shout down the same fanbase for an extended period, then turn around and act like you were on our side the entire time. There is the aspect that once Grant found out the Maloofs would sell and he would have different bosses, he changed his tune quite a bit, and that is not honorable. On this forum you can't go around calling people idiots, morons, telling them to go jump off a bridge, etc, but Grant regularly has done that to kings fans, people of the Sac community, the same people he suddenly wants to act like he's on the same side as right now. And my guess is you wouldn't be ok with a poster here doing that, they'd be banned, so why is it ok for Grant to do that to our fanbase, then act like it's water under the bridge just because he's getting new bosses?

Yah Grant had said numerous times that the "Fans wouldn't make a lick of difference" when it came down to it in January when it was announced. He was also singing the same tune in the Anaheim debacle. Not to mention he has constantly called his callers morons when they brought up anything negative towards the Maloofs. Basically saying "if the Maloofs didn't say it then it's not true" even after they pulled out of the arena deal and had been caught in a bunch of other lies.

I got shot down by Grant and called a bunch of names because I said the whole Anaheim thing was "a way for the Maloofs to increase the value of the team then eventually sell it to Samueli because in my opinion the Maloofs will be out of the league in 5 years" Grant called me a bunch of names then said the Maloofs are not selling the team, and if they were approved to go to LA then they would keep the team for 20 years or something to that effect.

I think there is a good chance that we might see hockey in Sacramento after the arena is built.

I think Grant's PBP skills are actually quite good, but where he suffers is when he tries to provide analysis which often is terrible, and his bias comes through. The problem with his bias compared to that of other PBP guys in my eyes is not that he's biased against the opponent, that's normal, the bigger issue is how biased he is towards certain players on our own team. I have never seen another PBP guy hype the 3rd-5th most talented guy above and beyond the top 2 players, nor have I seen such bias in complaining/complementing guys within our own team, where some guys can do no wrong and others can do no right. That line is usually drawn between teams, not within the same damn team.

Yup, just look at how he handled renovating Arco. He shot down and blasted any fan who brought that up for at least a year, calling it a ridiculous idea, then when George came out last year and said that's exactly what he wanted to do, Grant suddenly agreed with him and said it was a good idea. When fans called him on it, he shouted them down again.

One example of many.
