No wonder Reke can't get back out there when playing well. Some guys' playing time is predetermined before tip. SMH.

I bet Smart then promises all of IT/Brooks/Jimmer minutes, and there's Reke, stuck on the bench, no matter what, as all our PG's must play too. SMH again.

Tonight on Napier Smart was talking about his rotations and he said that Thorton has a specific time he subs in. He doesn't even tell him to go in, Thorton just watches the clock and goes in. I have never ever heard of anything like this. This is just bizarre.
I have. In middle school.

Yeah, well given my general opinion of basketball nerds and their analytics departments, I'm not crying in my beer too much about that one. Well...aside from us having a Jerry Reynolds as anything but comic relief of course.
Unfortunately, we are often in dire need of comic relief during games these days.

Didn't think this should have its own thread, it's a fantasy bball column after all. (sorry if it posted somewhere else already)

He addresses the current guard rotation the Kings have, questioning how much control Smart has in the situation and hints that the team doesn't care for Brooks. He doubts Tyreke is injured, at least I got that impression from it. Hope his theory is right and a trade is coming soon to thin out the back court.

Kinda makes sense. Petrie making Smart play Brooks Because hes always had a thing for Brooks. And making him play Jimmer for marketing. Also making tyreke sit out games to lower his value so nobody signs him to a expensive contract that the kings have to match. Interesting conspiricy theories but I could see them being true the way this team is run

I could see the Brooks/Jimmer thing but not the Tyreke thing.

Reke has been playing some excellent basketball this season and if we are fair, he is getting a fair chance from Smart this year. Sure the minutes could be up a bit more but overall Tyreke has been out best player this year when he has been on the court.

Now this being Tyreke's contract year, I very much doubt he would cop it on the chin if he was being made to sit out games in the contract year. Tyreke might not say anything but I am sure that his brothers and his agent would be kicking up the stink by now.

I think with Tyreke, its probably the other way around. In the past he has played when he was less than 100%. He has been a warrior and played through some tough injuries in the last 2 years and has copped so much **** from everyone for not being productive. I think this year, being his contract year, he is being very cautious and is not playing unless he is close to 100%. I think if anything, Smart's recent comments about medicos not being able to do any more and its up to Tyreke when he returns suggests to me that Smart is getting shirty that Reke is not toughing it out.

Tyreke has a lot to lose this year if he is forced to sit out games or if he plays them hurt and as a result does not pay at that high level, that is why he is cautious and that is why his camp would be publicly kicking up the stink if he was being forced to sit out games when he could have played.

watching Mia vs. Dallas right now. they commented on the Dallas bench getting Dallas back in the game right now and said "Sometimes your bench is playing so well, you break your normal rotations and leave them in a little long" it made me LOL thinking about how Smart just does that with every substitution of every game hahahhahaha.

That seems to validate Thomas's tweet the other day.

What tweet was that? I follow Isaiah and don't recall anything that would match your comment.
probably referencing a quote in a bee articel where IT suggested he felt there was politics going on -- it was referenced over in the I hate Brooks thread where people were ignoring the potential Jimmer possibilities too. And the fact IT has been selfish this season and our offense was absolutely terrible while he started. But hey, whatever.

The only way to spin this that doesn't end with something icky being involved, whether its a coach creating a monster, or a player politicking and feeling entitled, or a young team (Cousins) playing favorites with its friends, or a front office meddling to sell tickets etc., is if it turns out to be more rabid IT/Jimmer type fans creating the drama, and its not there internally.

I would feel very safe in assuming it's more the rabid fans than it is either Isaiah or Jimmer. I've followed IT on Twitter for a long time and he may make the occasional comment such as you referenced, but he's not about to cause problems for himself or the team by posting tweeting anything inappropriate. He quotes scripture and sends messages of support to his family, etc. He's not the type to use the media to try and further his own cause (if he had a cause, which I do not believe he does).

I'm going to have to go back and reread his tweets...

Yah, I wasn't trying to spin it anyway. I just remember IT sending out that tweet and figured it might have something to do with him not starting. I wasn't saying it was a fact or anything. I just thought it was interesting that the tweet came out when the article did.

Shoot, I am not that bad. I just see things in black and white. And once I get an opinion of something I don't budge unless they show me otherwise ;)
Well at least your not close minded! However, I should point out that there are some colors out there. I don't care much for yellow though!

I also follow IT, and Cuz and Jimmer on twitter, and I've never read a tweet by any of them in reference to anything in that article. I certainly understand IT being frustrated after earning the starting position last season, but lets be honest, after Tyreke was removed from the equation, there wasn't much competition. And to some extent, thats part of the problem with this team. When Tyreke came to the team as a rookie, he was handed the starting job. When Cuz came, he was handed the starting job. Same thing for JT when he first arrived. Why? Because there wasn't anyone of significance they had to beat out.

Utah drafted Derrick Favors, but he start? No! On most good teams, new draftee's have to earn the right to start, and by the time they get that start, they're ready. Now a lot of the teams are sending their draft picks to the D-League, which is what its intended for. Only on the bad teams, like New Orleans, the Wizards and the Kings etc, do you see draft picks in the starting lineup. And I make exceptions for the Lebrons of the world. When you give the starting job to young players that haven't really earned it, they start to feel entitled, and when you take it away, it can cause problems.

So I question the validity of the article, but if it happens to be true, and I'm the GM, I have an easy answer. I'd trade IT tomorrow, and thats that. You can't let the inmates run the asylum.

Uh, Favors played for NJ his rookie year. No more cervezas for you.

I can still remember Evans as the Lebron of PGs - a 20/5/5 ROY. He was definitely a starter material and definitely deserving of the starting job. IMO, he was on his way to saving this team from oblivion. It is the fault of the Magoofs (and never Petrie of course) that so many things gone wrong with the way they MANAGED to surround Evans with the wrong players.

Note the word MANAGED above. It is the fault of the Magoofs and not the GM Petrie.

This is a continuation of the Thornton sub routine. I think it's odd but I also think it reflects Smart's inability to sub on the fly. Thornton comes in at the 3-4 minute left in the quarter time which is probably appropriate. There was a game recently when the guy MT was supposed to relieve was hot and Smart reached over and stopped him from going in. The problem for me is that it supports indirectly any speculation that Smart lets his feelings towards the players interfere with basketball common sense.

Does anyone know who the (I assume it's a woman) is that sits behind Grant and Jerry and hollers and woots like a drunk banshee being raped all game long?

If so, can you please ask her to stop. It was so loud in tonight's broadcast it literally gave me a headache.

I so frigging agree with that. Someone should text into 1140 and let Grant know that he's coming over on the broadcast REALLY loud and that someone needs to ask her to town it down.

TOTALLY AGREE. I thought it was my tv set with background noise being so loud and Grant and Jerry being a whisper. Somebody really needs to do something about that.

I loathe the Maloofs. The longer they hold out on selling the team the less of a chance the team has in retaining Cousins. This could easily be a FAR worse situation in 2 years.
