Lowry talk heating up .. Kings in the mix (ESPN)

You know, if the Kings walked away from tonights draft with Lowry, Henson and Harkless, I'd consider that an incredibly successful night. I'm a big MKG fan but to get a starting PG who is a great defender, a PF who can block shots, be a weakside defender and rebounder while hitting the open 15 footer and a starting SF who is defensive minded and has a lot of upside is a substantial haul.

And it would strengthen the bench as well. Having Thompson (assuming he's back) as the 3rd big and Thomas as the change of pace PG is a nice luxury as is having a scorer of Thornton's caliber as a sixth man. Best of all, Lowry would be locked in for two years and the rookies for four so the Maloof's inability to spend couldn't even inhibit things.
Sorry, Kleiza & Sullinger. ;)

Sure, but of course that's part of trading a pick for a vet. You eliminate the risk of coming up empty in return for a surefire step forward. And we desperately need a step forward.
I thought you were against getting Lowry because of the small back court issue with IT?

I have tagged that as a major issue, and it is. But I have always loved Lowry, and we NEED to come out of this draft with at least one new starter who can really defend.

The speculation that Hou has improved the offer is very interesting. I really think it's likely Lowry is a member of our team tonight. Doubt we hear about a trade before we pick, but if we pick Drummond my guess is we hear we're involved in a trade 30 mins later.

Yep, I agree with this.

If we take Drummond I feel very confident that we made a deal with Houston.
If MKG is on the board and we take Drummond, I'll have to wait to see what the details are before getting upset.

If MKG is off the board and we take Drummond, I'll be really excited to see what Petrie was able to snag.

If we put IT and Lowry in the backcourt at the same time, Smart probably deserves to be shot.

If IT is ultimately a 20-25 min 6th man type, there's only 5-10 min a game at most when you will see that, and likely against other backups, when opponents are likely to play small as well. And Lowry defends bigger 2's better than Thornton (and Jimmer of course) can, so it's really no change for the team in general.

I do think adding Lowry makes moving Thornton a priority. I would trade Thornton for Dudley-type or a big, depending on the draft.

Lowry/IT/Jimmer
Reke/Garcia/(TWILL)
(Dudley)/Salmons/Honeycutt
JT/(Henson)/Outlaw
Cuz/Whiteside

An early 2nd rounder and a cheap 4th big shot blocker would be nice. That's a team that will get close to 500, and is still 3-4 years from it's peak.

From all of the chatter it seems like it's either this deal with the Rockets or Thomas Robinson at five and call it a day.

That's what I'm thinking too, unfortunately. Unfortunately if MKG is still there. Otherwise I don't particularly mind depending on what we get back. I'd love to get Terrence Jones if we trade back, along with Henson. But just unlikely.

I think Petrie has a few players in mind that he wants in the middle of the first round and the trade only happens if he knows that he can get somebody he really wants with the picks in addition to Lowry. It could be Henson, Zeller, Harkless, Moultrie, or someone else we don't know about. If we can swing the pick for Lowry, Harkless, and one of the bigs than I think it's a fair trade for us. Harkless is a bigger question mark than either MKG or Barnes, but he could be a very good SF in a few years.

Problem is it won't get to that point... either Robinson is available and we take him or he's not and we have to make the decision. At least that's what's being put out there right now.

There's always the option of drafting Drummond and keeping him. That's not a bad backup plan I think as long as we go and get a veteran in free agency.

Henson will be gone but you are close....

I said the trade would be this on SUNDAY!!!!

Link is at the top for proof

I SAID
"We will get a guard and his name is Kyle Lowry.....from Houston

Hayes and #5 for K.Lowry and #14 and #16 (book it)

Kings will draft Terrance Jones and Moe Harkless who are both coming in for workouts before the draft (Moe on Mon). "

The only change is Houston no longer has 14 they have 12....

Exact same thing will happen as I have been saying for DAAAAYYYYSSSS!!!!!

Lowry, TJ, and Harkless!

does anyone know if Houston is still after Tyreke? Or has Petrie made him unavailable. I like Lowry alot, but i wouldn't trade Tyreke and #5 for Lowry and picks. I would probably do Thornton and #5

um, why would you do either given that the #5 alone is supposedly getting us offered Lowry and picks?

I don't know. I haven't been following all the rumors, the last one i heard was tyreke and 5 for lowry and picks, if they are offering Lowry and picks for 5 and filler, i do it in a heartbeat. Lowry is a legit top 10 pg thats still young.

I LOL'd.

If the Kings can't get the Pao deal, and Houston is offering BETTER THAN Lowry + #16 for #5, they need to take it (even in Lowry isn't as seasoned, successful of vet as I'd prefer - but he fits the needs of the team).

Im happy with Lowry and two picks for #5 & Hayes.

If that scenario happends id like too see us end up with two of these players with our picks.

T.Jones, M.Leonard, Harkless, Jeff Taylor,Melo, may even take a flyer or PJ3 if hes there.
