Kind of a tangent, but I like Montiejunas. I'd feel a but better about these deals if he were in them.
But it would take a lot, and I mean a lot, for me to trade the #5 pick to Houston without Lowry in it.
For starters, I'd need at least 2 of their picks. I'd need Monteijunas. I'd need Dalembert. And I'd need them to take some of our bad contracts back. I'm actually leaning towards dumping Hayes on them over Salmons. Hayes contract runs a year longer, and I think Salmons can help this team next season. He's a more complete player, and while grossly overpaid, he had a really nice month when he was playing off the bench before he got hurt. His ability to attack the basket and defend multiple position .. and handle the ball can be more valuable than what Chuck gave us last year. Hayes is also just a more realistic trade piece. I'd try and get them to take Cisco, too. (I'd say Outlaw, but I don't think he can be dealt until a year has passed since him amnesty date, which was sometime in December).
To recap:
Dalembet
#14 and #16
Montiejunas
for
#5
Chuck Hayes
Francisco Garcia
It comes out as a 3 for 3 if Moneteijunas stays overseas for another season. If not, we may have to make a minor deal or two as soon as possible. I would obviously try and go after Iggy or Deng at that point, using Thornton as the main trade chip with picks and cap room... we'd have a lot of wiggle room to make a bigger splash in free agency or through trades.
Of course, this is under the assumption that MKG will not be there when we pick. If he's available, We better take him and never look back.
