[NBA] Comments that don't warrant their own thread (2011-2012 season)

Some interesting things from this past week:

The Magic went without a hotel the other night in Indy thanks to the Super Bowl.

Jeremy Lin goes crazy on the Nets (25pt 5reb 7ast 1to 2stl):
[yt=-7HzhtJaCo0]-7HzhtJaCo0[/yt]He will be starting next game creating a Harvard backcourt with Landry Fields.

LBJ had to ride his bike to a game because of traffic:

Lin went off again tonight with 28 points and 8 assist. They beat the Jazz without Amare and Melo.

Tonight must be the the night of the spark plug point guards. IT and him deserve to get into the Rookie/Sophomore game.

i was hoping we would pick up lin last year when he went undrafted but the warriors got him. when he was released i wouldn't have minded if the kings took a flyer on him but i figured he wouldnt get much playing time with jimmer and IT drafted and tyreke already at the point. but nice to see he is taking advantage of the opportunity given to him

I liked him fromt eh teim I sawq him in sumemr league 2 years ago and wanted us to be the team to get him last year. Played a lot like Beno I thought. We may never have been int he running though. It may not be accident he keeps on getting himself into cities with run n gun systems and large established asian communities

well people have been wondering when the new Steve Nash was going to appear.

we have our answer!

(sarcasm)

seriously though i like Jeremy Lin, watched his game against the nets and he has great court vision. How long this run of spectacular games will go on though, i don't know.

Not surprise that Lin is doing well at all. Since summer league in his rookie year, he showed that he can play. This kid is a very hard worker with a very high IQ. Those qualities are essentials for a good PG. He also has good size for his position.

Obviously he won't be able to substain these high octane stats over a long period, but he will develop into a nice player. Was super surprised that the Warriors would waive him at only $500k salary. Heck, with such a large Chinese population in the bay area, it would've been easy for them to make much more than that just with some promotion to the community there.

Don't know how many of you saw this but the Celts did a football snap to start the game.

Hmmm, Sam Amick implies Keith Smart was not retained by Golden State because he wasn't smart enough to play Jeremy Lin more as backup PG.

That's pretty much revisionist history. Lacob cuts Lin, the player he really likes and that he allegedly fired a coach over, to increase the offer to Jordan by $300K? You fire a coach because he doesn't play a guy, then subsequently cut that very guy to get almost no additional leverage in a risky RFA offer sheet? I call BS. He cut Lin because, like everybody else, he didn't think he was any good, and he fired Smart because he wanted a big-name coach that was his own hire. Now that Smart and Lin have both had short bursts of success he's covering his butt.

Edit: Alternately Amick could be overselling that implication. It's possible that the implication is more Amick's than Lacob's.

Im on the Jeremy Lin bandwagon. It's too bad the Knicks vs Lakers game isn't at Staples. I'd love to see Lin burn Fisher on his homecourt.

Leave it to K*be to rain on the Jeremy Lin parade.

He cussed a half dozen times dropping a few F Bombs when giving his condescending answer regarding Lin. Always classy.

I wonder how many snarky F Bombs a player like Cuz would get away with. I guess the NBA/their coaching staff correlates the number of rings to the amount of rudeness a player is aloud to get away with. If that were really the situation then Bill Russell's interviews would have to come with a warning label.

I'm not a fan of Kobe but I thought that interview was pretty funny, especially the reporter asking him would he consider guarding Lin if he was having a big night. The incredulous response from Kobe gave me a laugh.

Lin is killing LA. He has 34 points and there are 6 minutes left in the 4th.

I expected him to come crashing down to earth tonight but he did the opposite. K*be has resorted to guarding him a couple possessions.

No Amare and no Melo again.

Is this kid for real or is he just pulling an Ike Diogu... if he's legit it has to be one of the biggest surprise players in NBA history.

Of course he won't sustain being a high 20 point player having to play a large amount of minutes in a compact season, especially when Amare and Melo come back but this is far more legit than Diogu's two games at the end of the season. A four game win streak for the Knicks since Lin has played starter minutes.

This is more like when Flip Murray was filling in for Ray Allen and averaged 20 a game until Allen came back from injury.

Yeah, i guess the Knicks don't really have other options right now. You would think Fields would step up before lin would though.

Now 4 straight outstanding, stunning performances - and tonight tops it off by outdueling Bryant (34pts Black Mamba / 38pts Yellow Mamba). I love all the Madison Garden signs in support of Lin and chants of "MVP."

In watching his game I like his cool, assassins mentality - and smiling slicing and dicing. He sizes up his defender and if it's a mismatch strikes quickly and if it's not there, simply finds the mismatch elsewhere with the right pass - that's incredible intelligence and court awareness. Very, very talented PG at 23 years of age and built nicely at legit 6'3" 200lbs.

Jeremy Lin is definitely for real and possibly the next Steve Nash - his Knicks coach can only thank his lucky stars.
