I had Rush first introduced to me in the 8th grade, I had a friend who was obsessed with them. At that point, I wasn't all that impressed. Too much synth pop in my head I guess.
I heard Tom Sawyer all the time, figured it was probably their best as it was played most often. I actually LISTENED to their music in my early twenties, found they were capable of more. I really enjoy their music and Neil Peart is arguably one of the best drummers of all time.
While it took me awhile to appreciate them, if I can’t have Beatles for my pop/rock, I’ll take Rush.
From Wikipedia: "Rush has won a number of Juno Awards, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Over their careers, the members of Rush have been acknowledged as some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each band member winning numerous awards in magazine readers' polls. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records.[5] Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.[6] Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units.[7] Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.
As the band recently[when?] finished touring the second leg of the Time Machine Tour, they are expected to continue writing and recording their next studio album, Clockwork Angels."
