Kings trade Landry to Hornets......

I don't see how that puts any pressure on west, considering:

- That would only work of Landry was under contract. He might bolt too.
- West is a far better player at this point.
- West has already made it known what he wants, and has already ended talks with the hornets on an extension. Getting another "replacement" isn't going to change his mind if he shut it down prior to this deal even going through.
Landry comes with Bird rights, so they can offer more than anyone else if they desire to retain those rights. Of Course they hold the Bird rights to West as well. The difference is that Landry will be cheaper.

more like sign Westbrooke away from OKC and Terrence Jones.... although tough to swallow....I like the name returning to Royals. watch they get black jerseys......
If they move to Anaheim, so many good things are going to happen to this team. And for all you Laker haters. This is almost the perfect scenario. They will get to intensify the rivalry. There is a rivalry between OC and LA. As Uncia has written about many times. Angels, not Dodgers, Ducks, not Kings, and now, ROYALS, not Lakers.

I know it sucks for the Sac residents. But for others like me who grew up in sac as Kingsfans and have long since moved away. I'm actually TOTALLY rooting for them to move to Anaheim, kick Laker ***, and have a LOT more fan support than they do now. I think they're gonna be a hit down there, just like the friggin Ducks were a few years ago. Hockey people. We're talking about hockey. And there was ALREADY a hockey team in LA!

So after feeling bad for the Sac resident fans (I really do), and crying for about half a second for the city council, I'm getting on to the CELEBRATING, YES CELEBRATING the incredibly bright future this team has. It will help us to attract FA's as well. This team has a bright future in Anaheim, Louisville, or Sacramento.

I don't think he was helped much by Chris Paul when CP3 was sitting on the bench for most of the season.

Am I the only one that loves this move? Landry is a tough, solid scorer at times, but we have a very solid frontcourt rotation already in place and we just got younger with a very talented young SG that helps in much of the things we have been begging for.
I'm pretty excited with the move I was hoping we'd move Landry for either a good young guard or a mid first. I loved what I saw from Thornton last year when Paul was out. he's a 2nd year player comparing him
to Luther head is a joke they're nothing alike head is a chucker and Thornton can drive and shoot as well as pass. not a true point guard but I think him and Reke could do well together. would still love to get Irving thoigh

Ok, maybe I should have included a disclaimer for my Thornton=McCants 2.0.

I think it's pretty much like this:

Best Case: Poor Man's Mitch Richmond
Worst Case: Rashad McCants

He's a rental. It doesn't matter which he is for the rest of the season, because at least either of those options are > Head/Taylor

Dont think he has enough years for bird rights IF they exist in the next CBA.

(Rubbing hands together) Who is next to get traded???? I like the Landry trade. We just may have that shooter we've needed. Just a couple more pieces and we're set. Go Kings/Royals!

We don't know that! Thornton is a FA but a restricted FA so if we do like him and see him as part of the future then we can match any offer he gets.

He is a 2nd year player with obvious flaws BUT he is more than capable of being a dynamic 6th man in this league that can score in a hurry in a number of ways!

I think its a decent trade. We need a third guard in the long run and Thorton could fit the bill. He isn't the well rounded third guard I was hoping for, but he has some talent creating his own shot and as a shooter. A couple of skills which we are in desperately need of.

People who say our capspace is useless cause "no big name free agents will sign here" are really ignorant and are ignoring the fact that we can use that capspace to absorb contracts in players coming in via trade.
Yes, and two 2nd caliber vets would be very helpful. Depends on what you mean by big name but Prince or someone of that caliber would be just fine. Nene would be excellent if he exercises his option and leaves a sinking ship. There are handfuls of 2nd level vets and we need them too. Two stars is necessary and we have that. Three would be great but if the 2nd level people are truly that and not garbage, it serves the same effect.

He actually reminds of a young Joe Crawford, who is now most likely the premier 6th man in the league (mostly because Bibby can only play ten minutes per game)

Unfortunately his lack of ballhandling/ability to play the PG is what holds him back in that sort of comparison. I hate pure SGs -- most useless "pure" anything in basketball. The reason being it generally means that they lack the size to play SF -- so you have a smallish guy -- and they lack the ballhandling/passing to give you felxibility at PG. So you're stuck. You've just got a small SG, and that's it. ANd gee what a turd that generally is. Now fortunately the thing I am hoping for with Thornton is that he really turns out to be explosive -- his lack of flexibility sucks, especially if he's suppposed to be a 6th man -- how many 6th men can only play one position? But if he is anything close to the high teens scorer he was the second half of last year picking him up would be a coup regardless of limitations. In a lot of ways this trade makes perfect sense -- we traded Carl Landry for the Carl Landry of SGs (undersized, sometimes potent scorer, who doesn't do much else). And SG is both a position of much greater need for us, and a positon where you normally tolerate more one dimensional scoring oriented play than you can in your frontcourt.

HEy, we dealt with K-Mart's one-dimensionality for years. I think its safe to say that Kings fan are fully prepared for Thornton.

I don't think we want to float that as a GOOD comparison, because that did not work at all.

But oh well, Thornton had an intriguing rookie year and you had to figure somebody was going to get him, and would have a chance to get him at a lot more reasonable price than a high lottery pick like Mayo. So its good its us, and it did not really cost us anything long term.

Eh, woulda rather seen us trade Landry for Faried (late 1st), but Thorton could be a good addition to our weak backcourt depth.

Never really dug on Landry while he was here, but now that he's gone I wish him luck.

Prediction: Paul makes Landry look super beastly. Kings fans interpret that as us getting reamed in the trade/poor Westphal coaching.

well I'd rather kept Mandry too but Marcus Thornton isnt a bad player, def a lot better than Head.
Andersen on the other hand can knock that midrange jumper down (which was probably why GP got him) but other than that he's a waste of a roster spot.

We apparently wound up not getting Andersen. Frontcourt rotation now clears up to be Boogie/JT/Sammy D with Darnell and Hassan (when he eventually gets healthy) as the emergency guys.

I like Carl - comes across as a great guy so good luck to him at the hornets I hope he does well.

but come on, we needed to move him and Thornton is an interesting talent. Once i start to get my head out of the clouds and realise we weren't gonna get Granger i start to like this trade a lot more!
