Lets "HELP" Tyreke get ROY!!!!!

#1
So as much as we wish that this ROY race is a lock for Tyreke, the truth is that its much closer than you think. More and more media guys are picking Curry or Jennings to win the award.

It can be a combination of Tyreke missing some time due to the concussion, Curry playing well, Bucks making the playoffs and.....
the media just hates the KINGS!!! (for unknown reasons)

Just yesterday...

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/features/vince_thomas/04/06/vinny.awards/index.html

Basically this Vince guy gave his vote to Curry, saying how good he's played after the all-star break. Did Tyreke not play well also? Curry might have had some great games, but Reke had his share of triple doubles and many near triple doubles. Does Tyreke also playing well before the all star game not count for something?

My point is that we should EMAIL, MESSAGE, POST, INFLUENCE these writers/voters with LEGIT reasons and facts.

Not sure how many of you guys noticed, but about 3-4 weeks ago when Tyreke was bumped out of the NBA.com rookie rankings, a lot of Tyreke fans apparently emailed the writer and he came back and bumped Tyreke back up to the top spot the next week and acknowledged the support for Tyreke.

As long as we don't harass these guys, I think they will listen. Sometimes they are bias and just thinking one way and it takes enough mention by others for them to see the light.

He says Tyreke is good, he's the 8th rookie to get 20 points a game, but conveniently didn't mention the 5 rebounds and assist, and of him being only the 4th in NBA history to avg that. He also said Tyreke doesn't play defense, and Jennings does)

WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP
I know there are a lot more writers out there thats taken a stance on Tyreke or another. If they are FOR Tyreke, lets tell them what a wise choice they've made. If they pick Curry or Jennings, please tell them why we think Tyreke deserves it more.

Please help me compile a list here and lets use the power of Kings fans to bring this award to where it belongs.

I know there will be some that thinks this is too much or unneccessary. But if by ANY CHANCE Tyreke gets snubbed, we would regret not doing this.

The "Vince guy" you mention is the same tool that wrote an article saying he would give it to Curry somewhere back around the trade deadline basically because he felt bad for dissing him in the preseason. Saw him do an interview about it. Wasn't terribly impressed by his bball acumen (nor that of the other guys on set for that matter -- always wondered, aside from being a jock not exactly = being smart, how so many ex-players are so bad at analyzing the game they have dedicated their lives to.

The fact that anyone in their right mind is picking Jennings is stupid, averaging 15ppg and 5.8asts and playing average defense at best(which I'll remind these writers that Tyreke has shut down and stopped some pretty good guys this year too)does NOT constitute the right stats to win this award. Curry is the only other guy that needs to be in this argument for this award, and even at that he is only averaging 17 pts and 5.8 asts, all while Reke is averaging 20/5/5 and has given us hope for our future, while GS still needs quite a bit of help to accomplish that same feeling. I just hope that Tyreke can get 80 more damn points to shut up these naive morons in the national media will take notice of this as well.

The whole notion of Jennings as ROY is based only on the teams performance and push into the playoffs. However, the recent history of the ROY proves there is little association between the award and the teams overall performance.

You're not kidding...if the Bucks push to the playoffs is directly responsible for Jennings getting more votes for ROY, then John F. Salmons should get MVP votes too, right??:D

You joke about that, but I saw that exact thing discussed on a Bucks board the other day. Several agreeing that Salmons should be in contention for MVP next year.

The internet is a strange place indeed

They should wait until the honeymoon's over. Salmons has has tendency to really help a team fr the first year or so that he's there and then promptly falls right into craptopia (He was a major part of the Bulls playoff push last season but absolutely played meh this season for them). We'll see what they say next year.

Yes yes, I agree with mostly everything everyone on this forum knows and believes as to why Tyreke is the ROY. 20/5/5 is very very impressive, drawing the opponents best defender, dominating for the entire season, yes we all know and we agree.

BUT....

Stephen Curry's stats for the last 4 games

27 pts, 14 ast, 8 reb
27 pts, 4 ast, 1 reb
29 pts, 12 ast, 8 reb
15 pts, 10 ast, 4 reb

These kind of #s are unfortunately changing the minds of a lot of media people down the stretch. Warriors just tied us in terms of # of wins. If we finish with a better record than them, I don't have any worries. But at this point, they may very well finish with a better record than the Kings.

Every good game that Curry has is being magnified on Sportscenter, Fox Sports etc. When Tyreke has a 20, 13, 7 game, its almost as if they expected it. The only way Reke can get the wow factor Curry is getting is if he drops 30+, 10 ast, 7 reb or something along those lines. Maybe its the fact that Reke has been doing it all season long that he loss the freshness factor. That is a stupid way to view a player's performance for the yr, but unfortunately A LOT of writers are like that.

Here's the deal: When the Cavs play the Warriors, Delonte West will guard Curry. When the Cavs play the Kings, Lebron James guards Tyreke Evans... it's not even kind of close.

I just don't buy that minds are actually being changed. Their job is to sell papers, or content subscriptions, etc. You can't do that if there is no story because one guy has run away with the race. So they throw out alternates, in the end they all come home to the guy doing something only 3 others have done and all the stories will be about how that is too hard to ignore. They do it with everything, look at how the media will write someone's obituary for months and then crown them as king.

Yes, we know that and we all agree. Tyreke draws the opponents' top defenders as I mentioned earlier. But the media is ignoring these things. They are making a big deal out of Curry's numbers without mentioning the other factors.

Again, I know we want a better draft position. But we really better have more wins than the warriors or at the very least, tie their record. If we finish with a worse record, it gives them another excuss to not give the award to Tyreke.

I'm aware about the writers trying to make it interesting. And I seriously hope that is the case and the only reason. The thing is Curry is really playing great and really making a strong case.

20/5/5 + a better team record than the Warriors secures it for Tyreke. But I'm not so sure about the team record at this point.

Even if the Warriors win one more game we still wind up showing a greater improvement over last year. And our late season slide can be written off due to Casspi, Hawes and the mid-season Martin/Landry shakeup.

3 Triple DBLs in a week span would have sounded pretty good in 'Reke's defense right about now.

Either way, he's earned ROY w/o the 20/5/5, and w/o a
better record than GS. But, as long as he accomplishes the 20/5/5, I think he'll be alright for ROY in the voters eyes.

#19
As I posted in the 20-5-5 Thread, Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated said hes voting for Jennings... Because he think hes helped his team win over the rest of the rookie class. Also said hes responsible for Boguts improvement this year and that he voted for Carmelo over Lebron for the same reason.

#21
It shouldnt even be a question. How can a player equal Lebron James’s rookie year stats and not win rookie of the year over a lesser player than the one Lebron won the award over, Carmelo. Carmelo Anthony is and was WAYYY better than Stephen Curry and Lebron STILL won the award. I dont think people could be so stupid. Its nonsense to even suggest that anyone could win ROY over Tyreke.

How is the voting for rookie of the year done anyway? Is it some kind of panel or coaches poll?

If it were the coaches this would not be an issue -- the coaches know. The players know. Unfortunately the only people (other than the fans) who may NOT know are the ones doing the voting. Its voted on by the media, and half of them are embarrassingly ignorant.

and when we play the Lakers, Phil doesnt even trust Kobe on Tyreke. He puts the man-beast Artest on Reke.

Yup thats the problem. A lot of these media guys are finding reasons not to vote for Tyreke. Jennings doesn't even play that much nowadays in a lot of games because he is so inconsistant and is shooting such a low %. Ridnour actually plays more mins then Jennings in a lot of game. Jenning has over 20 games where he scores below 10 points. Yet... these media guys find a way to not pick a Kings player.

In yesterday's game against the clippers, the clippers' announcer Ralph Lawler, (famous for Lawler's Law), said "I'm not voting for the ROY award on my ballot yet... until we see Stephen Curry on saturday and see how he plays against us." So does that mean if Curry has a big game against the Clips then we just loss another vote? These guys find weird ways to base their logic on why Tyreke shouldn't get the award or something.

I used to like Lawlor, but he's just senile at this stage of his broadcast career...judging like this won't happen that much around the league, Lawlor has no clue. I'm not worried about losing Lawlor's vote, because we already know Napear is voting for Reke, so that cancels Lawlor's vote out. I'm more worried about the bonehead hacks in the national media, especially the ones on the East coast and in LA too.(and 'OUR' very own Kings beat writer Jason Jones...pretty sure his vote might go another way just to show his Laker allegiance to mess with the Kings)

About half way through the game, his sidekick mentions how Gavin Maloof told everyone that he thinks they got the best rookie, even better than Blake Griffin. Thats when Lawler got upset for a bit. This is after he said he would wait for Curry before voting. So I hope that doesn't push him over the top. His sidekick (smith?) likes Tyreke, but not sure if he'll be pressured into voting against Tyreke by lawler.

Sure Curry is good, but to base your decision on what he does in ONE game is just plain stupid. If that was the case, he should give his vote to Darren Collison because he dropped 18 pts/14 asts on the Clips in their last game. Sheez, calm down Lawlor.

I think that since there is still an outside chance that Reke ends up at 19.9pts nobody wants to commit based on the god like status of the 20-5-5 achievement. Remember that Grant Hill did finish 6pts shy himself and his name will never enter any GOAT debates like the 3 guys that hit it. Once that number is insured there will be no running from it and I am certain that anybody that votes for anybody else unless they vote for the guy in their home market will be mocked incessantly.

Yup, seems like '20-5-5' are the magic #'s...I hope we dont have to see what happens if he DOESNT get it.
