More details on plan backed by NBA (split)

And here are the politicians who run our city, saying the politically correct things to say about all of this:

Sorry guys, money talks. A cursory glance reveals the NBA's plan as option A.1. If they wait until March the iron will probably have cooled. Get it done!!!

That article mentions the first road block of the plan. "So... where's my 70 million dollars that you still owe me"? But as you said, time is of the essence and a good buzz can only last so long.

They claim it takes place in Sacramento, but I doubt if the film crew could find Sacramento from Roseville... Some of the outdoor sites they use and claim as part of the Sacramento area are totally and completely ridiculous.

No doubt about it. When I say takes place, I mean it's MEANT to take place in Sacramento but I'm sure the majority of it is shot in Topanga Canyon in LA and at a bunch of studio sites. The bridge and capitol building backdrops get inserted after filming to make it look like it was shot on location.

Nevertheless, I like the fact that it's the one show where Sacramento is featured as the home city. With CBS, you have CSI in Vegas, Miami and New York while the NCIS shows are based in DC and LA.

Agreed. Maybe if we get the new arena, he'll actually show up and use it as a backdrop ... provided, of course, the series lasts that long.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen anything regarding the 2015 estimate for opening of the arena? I heard that there was one radio host mentioning that date but I haven't seen it anywhere else.

I've heard that as the target date a couple of times. I think that's part of what the task force asked from the developers submitting proposals, but I can't find a link to it right now to confirm...

I think Mayor Johnsons' comment was more to the point that the Natomas Chamber of Commerce is already starting a hub-bub about the Arena moving to downtown. They think they have the only shovel ready plan. Basically they want to keep the Arena in Natomas, for the economy of Natomas. They aren't thinking about Sacramento, they are thinking abotu Natomas.

A downtown S&E facility is the best thing for SACRAMENTO, not just PART of Sacramento.

Would not shock me at all if Bob Graswich was behind many of the negative posts. He can't resist taking shots at the Kings. Last I heard he works as a staffer for the mayor's office. I would love to see the size of the muzzle KJ is having to use on him about this arena thing.
Once the deal gets done, and yes I think it's going to get done, R.E. Graswich is the first guy I'm laughing at. I'm don't email newspapers, or editorial writers etc. However, I will be finding every email I can for anybody that has spoken out and tried to road block every attempt at a new Arena.

I think the email will start off with a well thought out and educated statement about growth that needs to happen, and being tired of the people who want to prevent anything good from happening in an area...

Then I think it will transition a picture of new arena renderings, then to a string of HAHA AHA AHA HAHAHAHA HA AHA HAHAH AHAHAA

And the end with a big ole

SCOREBOARD!!!

Actually, I watch regularly and have spotted definite pieces of Sacramento and could tell exactly where the shot was taken. They also had a nighttime shot of downtown Davis once.

Of course, not all scenes purported to be in Sacramento are in Sacramento, just like any show associated with some city. Plus, some stories take them to other California locations, as they are supposedly a Statewide investigative body.

Part of the fun for me, though, is watching to see the Sacramento scenes I do recognize. They clearly do film scences in and around Sacramento and its kind of fun to have Sacramento be the "home" for a series again. I like the show anyway, but its a bonus. :)

Is this the Mentalist you guys are talking about? Never watched or had any clue a TV show was set in Sacramento. Not that I need more shows in my DVR.

Yep. Like Kennadog said, they are state agency so there are certain parts of episodes that take place elsewhere but the agency is based in Sacramento so the majority of the episodes take place here and they try their best to integrate important Sactown landmarks into the show. The CC bridge and Capitol building are the most common ones although like I said in a previous post, I'm not sure if they are shot on location for those or if Hollywood uses them as backdrops after the scene is shot elsewhere.

I just think it's neat that Sacramento is home to a prime time CBS show. Maybe someone else can help me here but aside from "Eight is Enough", what other show was supposed to take place here?

I forget they may be using a filmed background. Duh! "Eight is Enough" and "The Mentalist" are the only nationally broadcast shows of which I know.

Cool, I will have to check it out. I know they usually just send a crew down to grab some locations shots for the season and then do the rest on sound stages but I always enjoy comparing my version of reality to Hollywood's. Since I was down there for a few years its also fun to see SoCal locations I know pop up in what is supposed to be Middle America on shows as well.

That's the story. From what I read somewhere, the film crew was in Sacramento for a couple of days to do some location filming and then they left, never to return.

Well, at least Sacramento is the "location" for the show and that's good exposure. And I do see places I recognize, even if the characters are only inserted later.

Yeah, I especially liked the episode where Baker's character was telling some dude something along the lines of "you're not in Modesto anymore, this is Sacramento, the BIG city...":D.

Watch out NYC, LA and Chicago, here we come!:p
