The beginning - the never-ending question...point guard or two guard?

#2
L-Train and JWill came closest to ROY. I think Lionel finished second.

My one question: Can we all agree he's better at the off guard?
Did you watch the game? beno was the offguard. So to answer your question no hes not better as the off guard. hes better as the lead guard. the point guard.

Nope. I agree with the two posters above. Reke didn't play the two; Beno did.

it'd be awesome if we could save all the "evans is better as a SG/evans is better as a PG" arguments for TDOS when everyone is bored, and we actually have a reasonable sample size of data.

but i imagine we'll get to have them after every game. weee! maybe we could make a new post-game poll for the entire season.

I've split this part of the discussion off into its own thread as I'm sure this debate/discussion will go on long past tonight. No need to junk up the "any questions" thread, since that's a long-held tradition and our #4 draft pick really showed he's the real deal tonight, regardless of which guard position he played.

I was excited he stepped up in of Kmart, but Reke and JT are killing me with their ability to miss open layups....I am glad Reke dunked those to break aways.

Tyreke played lead guard today. Not sure what game you were watching... the ball was in his hands most of the night.
Exactly. Just like when Christie played lead guard and Bibby was the off guard. In this case, Reke and Beno both ran the team in tandem, but it did seems like Beno gets Kings into an offensive flow much quicker. Plus, when he's not just standing in the corner but running around screens Beno can get open for his mid-range game or inside pass to a big man. As I recall, someone said it doesn't matter if you call Reke PG, OG, SG or whatever since his best position is "basketball player on the court." The good news is Beno IS a true/pure PG but can definitely play the 2.

Yup.

I didn't get to watch the game, but our PG, whoever he is, let Deron light us up for 29 points (.550), 15 assists/3 TO, etc., so I hope he learns to play some D.

For the "umteenth time" WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE what is his designation? Not one eeny, tiny bit. He is a guard in Westphals system. He scores, he rebounds, he dishes (tho' many of his dishes turn out to be misses), he makes the defense focus on him, helping everyone. This is the Coaches system, not a generic, papercutter style of 1-2-3-4-5 basketball. Convince me Westphals system IS NOT 2 guards, 2 forwards and a big in the middle rather than PG, SG, SF, PF and C and I'll keep quiet with "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?"

Denial isn't just a river in Egypt, is it? Check Bricklayer's grades and game assessment.
He spent most of this game at 2. Even with Udoka in, he was not initiating the offense often. And when he tried to run the offense late game, it backfired and eventually Beno took back over the PG duty. Of important note, Beno iced out Evans on the two scores that sealed the game.

Brick just thought he made his best run at PG with Udoka in, but I felt Udoka was doing the Christie duty of actually facilitating the half court offense.

Sure looked like he initiated the offense to me. He is a different breed of player then beno... he initiates out of penetration he's a play maker... a much better play maker then beno. He can learn the position to beno's level without a doubt. Kids 20 barely... and only 6 games under his belt.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I'm just impressed as hell with him and his future as a King. They call him a PG, the media calls him a PG, you want to call him an off-guard feel free. Doesn't change how he played at all. I personally think people place way too much importance on adjectives in the positions anyway. It used to be just guards, forwards, and centers. Nothing about small forwards or power forwards, point guards or shooting guards or off-guards, etc. You have guards, you have forwards, you have swingmen and you have somebody in the middle - hence the name "center". If you prefer to try and make the label the most important thing, that's your choice. Call him whatever you choose. I'm just incredibly glad we can call him a Sacramento King.

Ime Udoka has never facititated an offense in his life, normally plays SF, has a career 1.0 ast average, and just showed up in town yesterday after we signed him off the scrap heap. And now you have him running the point in his very first stint with the Kings? Your desperation to deny any possibility of Reke playing PG is leading you down some strange paths my friend.

Maybe you should have tagged Donte as the mystery PG during that stretch. Would have made at least as much sense.

My one question: Can we all agree he (Evans) is better at the off guard?
No we cannot.

Only a few would agree with you and perhaps only those who didn't see the game. I think Brick who has been very objective is right. Your desperation to deny any possibility of Reke playing PG is leading you down some strange paths.

BTW, we can all probably agree now that Evans is the better pick for the Kings than Rubio. :p With Evans, we got a very capable PG and at the same time we also got a very solid player we can count on to give us some offense when Martin is not around.

Let us not go down this path. I am entirely a Evans supporter but honestly we don't know what Rubio would have/could have done for us. So let's just keep it to we can all agree that Evans is an awesome pick for the kings.

When Beno was in the game he almost always brought the ball up and then put it in Rekes hands. Beno can distribute the ball much better because he has much better court vision. In the fourth quarter Beno passed the ball off to Reke and he'd dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, and then put up a forced shot. Not exactly good PG play is it? Beno was the true 1, and Reke in fact did play the 2. That is the formula for success. Reke just needs to quit dribbling so much and get some ball movement going.

better 2 guard. move kevin to the sf
Why don't we have Kevin play Center and put Tyreke at the PF position. I think Thompson should be the point guard with his stellar passing ability and look at the post up problems he'd give the other teams point guard. Obviously Beno at the three and Sergio at the two. Hawes can be the backup at SF because of his great outside shooting and KT can back up the center position. I think this lineup has championship writen all over it..

If you'll excuse me I have to go make another Bloody Mary..:p

Oddly enough, I believe that this has already happened.

Why is it so hard to understand? He starts as the point guard. He guards the opposing point guard. He plays within the offense as the point guard. How can that information say that Evans is a 2 guard? We have a strange phenomenon going on on this site. Fans who will absolutely refuse to accept that Evans is a point guard no matter what. These people will be talking about this for the next 10+years. Very strange.

How about this, no more mention of Evans not being a point guard and no more mention of Evans being better than Rubio. Truce?

Co-signed. Its like trying to figure out what color a dark color is on a black and white TV. I don't give a damn if they call Tyreke a Quaterback, Catcher, Goalie, Center, Caddie, Race care driver. In the end whats the big deal. So somebody can get their jollies by saying "I told you so"???
