What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again and play your sad guitar?
With my next pick I select one of my favorite covers of all time, Sonic Youth doing a song made famous by the Carpenters: Superstar (released 1994). Just can't quite imagine my iPod without this one, a sort of breathy, creepy stalker take on a song whose lyrics actually stand up to that sort of thing.

YOU REALLY GOT ME - Van Halen (1978)

[yt=You Really Got Me - Van Halen]SIbQbKDxAxo[/yt]

A cover of a great Kinks song...it's much better with Eddie's solo Eruption in front of it, but even though they're often played together, they're listed as two separate tracks.

Sorry about the timeout.. Now, I will select my favorite song by one of my favorite bands:

Birdhouse in your soul by They Might Be Giants from the album Flood (1990)

Time from some more reggae, and political reggae at that:

Can't Blame the Youth - Peter Tosh (1972)

Can't find a suitable or appropriate video right now, but will try to post one soon.

Allmusic link here (you have to find the reference in the text).

For my next pick, I go back to one of the grittiest songs I ever heard. And nobody did gritty blues like Jim Morrison...Roadhouse Blues - The Doors - 70s

I'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
Give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
Time for me to grab another '80s song, so how about going the Dramarama route with Anything, Anything (released 1985). It's a simple song, but one that really draws me in.

I had my next pick all planned out, but after watching RAW last night, I'm going to put it off one, and go with this instead. For board harmony, I will post the edited version here, but let it be understood, with no equivocation, for my island, only the unedited version will be acceptable:

I guess you could fit the viewership of Rock Star Supernova in a phone booth, but I was one of them. Actually I'm disappointed the Rock Star franchise did not take off. I really liked both runs.
I really liked the Rock Star concept. I'll admit I wasn't really fond of the guy who won Rock Star INXS (JD Fortune) but I enjoyed the competitions. And I liked Storm.

:)

Note: In googling Rock Star INXS, I found an article from Rolling Stone that says Fortune is claiming INXS canned him and he's now homeless and living in his pick-up truck...

(Not to derail my own thread or anything...)

Can I get in on the momentary thread derailment, because I loooooved Rock Star?

I liked JD, in terms of him being a good fit for INXS, which really wasn't a band I liked back in their day but grew to appreciate a little more over the course of the show.

I wanted to like Storm since she's a local celeb but I just don't get her at all. She picked some of my favorite songs and altered the phrasing in ways that made no sense to me.

Rock Star was my favorite singing show, aside from the first season or two of Nashville Star they had the best talent of any show and the best music... well if you're into rock. The house band was amazingly popular and those guys show up all the time in the backing bands for big name solo acts on stuff like SNL and other shows. I'd have liked to see a Rock Star where the job was to start a new project with the house band.

Back on the original topic that momentarily derailed things, I picked Anything, Anything last year. Great pick.
