This guy's guitar playing, to me, is like an explosion. He mixes the noise of the avant garde rock with the sensibility of pop music and the soul of blues... when you think of Phil Rudd and Joan Jett, who else could play lead guitar but this guy? NO ONE! A musical genious... he has the style, the look, and the chops... also, he sounds like no other metal/hard rock guitarist, he sounds better, fuller, richer... have a listen...

Just checked this thread for the first time, and glad I decided not to do it again -- Francisco's first tow picks are exactly the same idea I had for a 2nd band. We would have cancelled each other out.

Jeff Beck - Guitar

Jeff was in The Yardbirds, The Jeff Beck Group and The Honneydrippers. With his dominating rock/jazz sound and his ability to eloquently thread notes together, I could stop now. Beck, Bozzio and Wooten would make a perfect instrumental project, but I am by no means done yet. This is turning out quite nicely.

Geoffrey Arnold "Jeff" Beck (born 24 June 1944) is an English rock guitarist. He was one of the three noted guitarists — the others being Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page — to have played with The Yardbirds. He was ranked the 14th on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Much of Beck's recorded output has been instrumental, and his releases have spanned genres ranging from blues-rock, heavy metal, jazz fusion and (currently) a blend of guitar-rock and electronica. Beck has earned wide critical praise and four Grammy awards for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, and had two hit albums in the mid-1970s as a solo act. Beck was nominated for 2009 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was promptly chosen for induction for the April 4, 2009 ceremony.

I of course approve of this pick. He was definitely on my short list to play my rhythm guitar. What I like about him is that he's fine with sticking to rhythm. He plays rhythm, and that's it. Nice choice

John Doe - Bass/Backup Vocals -- As with most of the picks in this draft, the assigned duties are but a small part of what Doe would bring to my band in a real world situation. He plays both guitar and bass guitar and is a singer/songwriter in many different genres/styles. He is best known for his work with the punk band X and their rockabilly spin-off, The Knitters. He's also fairly recognizable as an actor, including a role in the slice of Swayze awesomeness known as Road House. Cool indeed.

My next two picks will be totally different from my first two. I chose them mostly because of their energy and stage presence, but both are very versatile players so I have no doubt at all that they will be fit in with my band.

There are few things that I like more than a good organ solo, which made my next choice easy.



Booker T. Jones - Organ -- Another multi-instrumentalist with skills as a songwriter and arranger, Booker T. is on my team to work the Hammond B-3. Though the style may seem incongruous with the rest of my band, I have no doubt that he can fit in as he has already worked with a wide variety of artists. His most famous work came when he joined with other Stax studio musicians to form Booker T. and the MGs, one of the single coolest bands ever to exist. Ever.

Matt Freeman - Bass/Backing Vocals

Matt Freeman is known for his bass work with punk bands Rancid and Operation Ivy.



From Wikipedia:

'Freeman uses scales and arpeggios in his basslines as opposed to "motoring" through a chord progression's root notes as is typical of punk bass playing and often embellishes with chromatic passing tones (most commonly between the 3rd and 5th of a chord). Annie Lennox - Lead Vocals

After my Marley concept was obliterated in the first round, I decided on a female lead as I much prefer female vox to male. It did not take any time at all to come up with Annie. Her intense stage presence with her awesome vocal range and classical training will be the perfect front. Her ability to really dig into a note Janis style is what puts her over the top for me. The fact that she is socially and politically active/conscious cements the pick.
