Even if we draft Griffen, JT would start in the beginning, and if Griffen is better and earned the starting job i think JT would be cool with being the first big off the bench.

I mean JT is probably stoked just to be in the NBA coming out of Rider. Hes a nice guy and would be a AWESOME 6th MAN! he could actually win that award down the road.

JT is a good guy i think a Griffen/JT PF combo would be a right step in the rebuild direction.

Doesn't work that way, down the road if he shows he's starter material he'll go to some other team to start...of course he's happy to be in the NBA but he's not going to be content with just being there.

The Draft Lottery is months away, who knows what will come out of that for the Kings. The thing we do know is that this is not a good rebounding team but that Jason Thompson is starting to put the pieces together. His production is starting to catch up with his effort level and he's more consistent than he was 3 months ago. If Griffin is available, draft him anyway. There should be enough minutes to go around. If Thompson is going to produce, a good coach will find a way to get him on the court (at PF or C) and going through a season like this is just going to make him want to win more later on.

No, not "there should be enough minutes to go around." Jason Thompson is the real deal and he deserves to get the chance to prove it without having to worry about minutes, etc.

I really don't want to turn this into another discussion whom we should draft as there are some really good discussions already underway. I think this thread is more to acknowledge what Jason Thompson is doing and how much we appreciate his hard work.

So, to return to that vein, GO JT!!

:)

If we end up getting the #1 pick or Griffin as a choice I would rather trade him for a pick below us, granted a good PG or SF is still available, and a young rising player on another team. It might be a little much to ask for but i guess an example would be Udrih, Salmons, 1st round (Griffin) to the Clippers for their 1st and Al Thorton. Then we draft a PG in the draft and play Thorton at our SF....

Could we PLEASE not make this another discussion about possible draft activity? Just to keep this somewhat on topic, draft discussion stuff is going to be moved to the Personnel Moves section...

I like Blake Griffin, but brining JT off the bench would stop him from developing into his full potential. JT is a potential all star in the future. If we get the #1 pick, it might be worth it to trade down for some solid current players. If JT really pans out, I would say pick Rubio (I know there is a slim chance he'll declare). But we'll see.

I think right now If he doesn't get any better you can pencil Jason Thompson in every night at 14pts 9reb on average. Thing is he will get better. In fact we have seen it this year. By next year who knows maybe he could be penciled in with 18pt 12reb on average. Point is he is getting better each and every game and the potential for how good he could be is still some time away.

Its almost scary how good he could be.

Unbridled optimism about a young Kings player? I haven't seen this in years...because we haven't had the opportunity. Rebuilding certainly sucks, but this is a nice thing. Go JT!

i like thompson, he kinda reminds me of lamar odom when he was in miami. we could end up with a pretty good team if our young players develop into the players that we all know that they can become...

He plays harder than Odom ever did and spends more time in the paint. I think he's similar to a young David West. Once he gets his confidence up, figures out what works for him on offense and gets his strength/conditioning up he could just surprise people. I could see him making steady improvements and then one day he's putting up 20 and 9 on a nightly basis and people are like "wait, this guy is good!"

I agree with Optimus Rhyme that JT is the only King keeping me watching some of each game. Every game he does something better and makes another step up the ladder. Then when the bring in Mikki it only shows how much the rook is now than the 11 year vet.

I predict the fellow will average 24pts and 13rbd by the time he is 26-29. That is, if he remains motivated like he is now.

Are you serious? I think he can be a very good player, but that's just silly. I mean, they're Shaq-esqu number. Howard is only averaging 20/14. You have Thompson averaging 24/13? I find that rather crazy.

I don't recall a King who ever had this much talent who played this hard every night. He has the energy of a Barry and a Pollard, but so much more talent. The fact that he's doing it on a terrible team makes his effort even more noteworthy. It shows great character for him to play hard every night when often the vets are mailing it in. Other rookies would conform to the mediocrity of the team; Thompson is not afraid to show up the vets by his hard play. There is nothing to say but good things about this guy.

If he does that he's in the superstar category. I'm not going to say it can't happen because he's a very hard worker and should continue to improve. I'll take 20 and 11. We'll talk about it again in 2013.:)

Hey, no need to rain on his parade. You may think it's crazy but it's not totally out of the realm of possibility. I'm with ryanandty. I think Jason Thompson could end up surprising the people who hadn't heard of him. If you watch how well he's doing right now, without a balanced team around to support him, thinking he'll do better when things get more settled is far removed from silly.

Thompson is a rare combination of athleticism, ballhandling ability, passing ability, and dedication to his work, all packed in a 6'11" 255 pound body. He has a good basketball IQ to go along with all that. If he continues to work hard refining his game, I see no reason he can't be one of the best PF's in the NBA. If we could just find a John Stockton type of pt guard to play along side of him ( no mean feat ), then the sky would truely be the limit.

What a wonderful dream you have put into my head. Let's find a superstar PG. :)

ESPN has some nice things to say about Jason.

Jason Thompson, PF, Kings (9.0 percent owned): I've been talking about Thompson for a few weeks now, but I feel he deserves another mention, as he is on the verge of breaking out in Sacramento. With the Kings going into full youth-movement mode and a potential Brad Miller trade on the horizon, Thompson is primed to have a big second half. And he already is starting to show signs with averages of 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks while shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the line in 27.7 minutes per game during the month of January. As a rookie, he'll get into foul trouble from time to time, but don't let that discourage you, as the Kings are going to try to get him as many minutes as possible over the last few months of the season.

I'm trying to think how many actual "superstar PG's" I've ever seen over past 30 years. Probably best in this order, unless I'm forgetting maybe one. Since my list is only 3 (w/1-2 players close), it's no doubt a very exclusive club. I'd settle for just a PG solid star Deron Williams type to show up on the Kings - pretty pleezzz.

The Club:

Magic Johnson
Isiah Thomas
John Stockton

Associate Members:

Jason Kidd (in his heyday)
Chris Paul (yep, he's got it going so far)

Magic was the best...bar none...IMO. Let's get a Magic clone.

Seriously, as a big Illini fan, I'd have loved to get Deron. Is there another Deron out there?
