Chances that Griz make a move…

Posted by Ronald Tillery
…are 50/50 from what I’m told. There is no question that Memphis is talking to Milwaukee about a deal that would send point guard Mike Conley to the Bucks for point guard Ramon Sessions and forward Joe Alexander.
I heard a few things Tuesday relevant to this discussion:
1.) The teams are still talking but Milwaukee is in a holding pattern because of a reluctance to part with Alexander, which ultimately may not prove to be a hindrance because this deal appears to be more about Sessions for the Griz.
2.) The Bucks, while interested in Conley, are showing no sense of urgency to pull the trigger now with the NBA’s trade deadline still several weeks off (Feb. 19). Perhaps the Bucks want to first gauge interest in Richard Jefferson.
3.) The Grizzlies are talking to other teams, and I was told to keep an eye on Sacramento. Not sure what players would be involved. Just passing on what is rumored between connected NBA people outside of Memphis.

Its seems they are not ready to deal with Restricted Free Agents Villanueva and R. Sessions (kind of how we dumped Peja because we didn't want to pay). Villanueva's cap hold is $13 million and Session is about a million. Conely would take 2.5 years before he is a RFA.

A lot of other KING'S forums have been talking about potential deals. It seems like Conely = Udrih, meaning that Conely hasn't worked out for Memphis. Conely has been given the minutes and hasn't performed (similar to Udrih).

The alleged deal fell through because A.) Milwaukee doesn't want to get rid of Alexander (Memphis doesn't need athleticism on the wing anyway with Mayo and Gay) and B.) Memphis doesn't want to give up on Sessions.

Honestly I would make a move for Conely since our coach doesn't seem to figure out anything when it comes to the damn Point Guards! I would be willing to try something new.

I would trade Beno for Conley if that were on the table, but let the record show that Conley has been extremely mediocre since he came into the league, and hasn't improved much despite having plenty of opportunities -- 64 games started and 25 minutes a game or so.

You always trade a 26 year old mediocrity for a 21 year old mediocrity and Conley can still get better, but barring some sort of extreme turnaround on Conley's part I wouldn't get too excited about it.

I mean, Memphis wants to give up on Conley in favor of Ramon Sessions. Sessions is good and everything, but especially since they're such similar players, it has to give you pause.

Huh, have no idea what that would look like myself, although I suppose one of the advanatges of dealing with a team like Memphis is that they only have two bad verteran contracts (Jaric and Griffith), so our chances of screwing up and taking back bad assets are proportionally smaller. Everybody else is young or an ender (which would, BTW, put them ahead of us in the rebuild).

As for Beno/Conley, I largely agree with Nbrans. Or rather...Nbrans agrees with me. :p Would be getting back a much better contract too, but it would scare me a little what contracts they might want us to eat in return.

Not excited about Conely excited about change. Conely has some athletecism from what I can remember about him, hot actually sure about his D though (that is what we really need).

It actually seems that Memphis wants to give up future pick and Conely, but I'm not quite sure what they want in return (Salmons + ?).

Memphis is the only team that has cap room. Maybe they would just eat the salary in the trade. they have over 6 mil in cap room.

What's with us going after high picks that don't pan out? Maybe they'll also include Darko and we'll sign Olowokandi .

But seriously, I'd take a chance on Conley. We haven't got much to lose at this point, especially at PG. I'd rather have Lowry though, he's playing pretty good this season

I would LOVE to give Conley a shot here. This would be a great buy low situation. Conley does not fit in Memphis at all because he still can't shoot and wings dominate the ball. Same situation with us, but KMart plays well off the ball too and Salmons could be gone within a month.

Conley will need to improve his jumper signficantly, but he is only 21 and like Hawes missed a large part of last season due to injury. As long as he is a hard worker, there's no reason why he would not be able to improve his shot. Obviously there may be a lot more behind the scenes that we are not aware of, but this seems like selling extremely low on someone who was a legitimate #4 pick in the draft last year (not an obvious Shelden style blunder).

Everyone told me during the draft that Conley was a can't-miss prospect who would improve his shot when he got to the NBA. Well, he's in the NBA, and it's not improving. I guess we could be the ones that keep on waiting, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

What's more troubling to me is his extremely-ordinary assist rate (4.8/40 minutes), which isn't even as good as Beno's. I mean, Ramon Sessions can't shoot but he's more effective because he's a really effective passer. I know assists are to a certain extent driven by the quality of your teammates, but Conley hasn't proven to be more than ordinary in that department either.

At barely 21, nobody's been waiting an inordinately long time on him, especially as a PG. He's not can't miss, but worth a shot if we could get this deal, which is doubtful.

I say trade for Adriana Lima, er... I mean, Marco Jaric. Do whatever it takes, keep him around for 20 years I don't care.

I would immediately buy season tickets as close to the wives section as I could get...:D

Then get a hockey team in Sacramento and trade for whichever guy is dating Elisha Cuthbert that week. :)

How about Sessions? Turning 23 this year. Had an amazing finish last season 9albeit, against mediocre players), but I would seriously consider him. Hell, I'd even (gasp...) give him the MLE.

Beno for Conley plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be soooooooooooooooo hyped up if GP can pull this one out.

I've been big fan of Conley and still believe that he can be a down grade of CP3.

Conley PLZ!

People were calling Gary Payton a bust after 3 years in the league. And he played 4 years of college ball.

Payton always had the defense and the great physical skills/size though. Conley does not have any of that to fall back on. I'd still make this move, but there is a healthy chance in the end it turns out like Sheldon.

What do you guys think of Beno + Salmons for Conley + Buckner + 1st or 2nd round pick?

I would do this because we get to dump Beno's HUGE contract and get a point guard, who I think will be better than Beno in 2 years. Easily.

Even in years one and two though he was a solid starter with, as Brick mentioned, the defense (2 steals a game as a rookie). But more importantly, he was still picking up the assists. If it were just a matter of Conley not being able to shoot, I'd say ok and lock him in the gym. But it's the lack of assists that really concerns me. If you can't shoot and you aren't racking up assists..... well, next thing you know your team is trying to trade you for a former 2nd round draft pick.

If we're to trade with the Grizz, I'd rather do it on the draft night. :D
If we get to pick the number 1 pick for 2009, I'll pick Griffin and trade him to Grizz for Mayo.

Mayo I think is way much better than any PG prospects coming into this draft, which is our main need.

I think it's something like Beno/Shelden for Conley/Jaric if something were to go down.

I rather have Darko then Jaric contract wise plus he would be more of a trading peice.
