The Rockets win for the time being--talentwise, they are certainly up there, and now they have a legitimate 2-way team--one that can excel both offensively and defensively, provided that they get a better playmaker rather than Rafer Alston; look for Battier to get traded for an upper-echelon point guard. But there are extreme physical and mental issues with their team--can they stay healthy? Can Artest keep in check? So many variables. Their team is at its prime (Yao at 28, TMac at 29, Artest at 29) so their window is small, but it can be a 2-3 year window and with a smart GM like Morey they can continue to load up to elongate that window.
We won't win for next year, with the super deep West, but with the Clippers, Denver, and possibly Golden State ahead of us in the "ready-now" talent chart, we're probably an 11th seed and beyond for next year guaranteeing another high draft pick to expedite our rebuilding process. Geoff did the smart thing here--Greene is a poor man's Durant at best, but seeing how the youth pans out right now will only help us in the long run.
