Mavs make offer for Artest

I'd go for this trade. Jerry Stackhouse isn't washed up and he can still play and contribute coming out of the bench. But what I really like is this Bass guy cuz he's HUGE!(not in height but in bulk). A definite banger, defender. Can really shoot the mid range jumper consistently. High energy young guy to compliment our rebuilding stage. I hope Petrie makes this trade happen not for Stackhouse but for Bass.

I really liked what Bass brought in the playoffs this year -- could be a good young active backup big. Unfortunately he's small (and haven't we seen enough of that) and gives me scary Anthony Bonner flashbacks, but at least he's very strong and active, which are things you like to see in effective benchers. Thing is of course our roster is completely stuffed to the gills with old junk at that position (because Bass is small, he's mostly a pure PF rather than PF/C unfortunately) and we would need to clear it out to make room for him.

Stack is obviously worthless to us and just a matching salary.

Would need more, but given my general opinion that we actually have the SF positon covered (Salmons, Cisco) even WITHOUT Ron, I would not see getting Howard back as any sort of 100% necessity. Now of course knowing our front office and their annual push to be absolutely 100% as mediocre and boring as possible, they are probably thinking we desperately need a 2nd/3rd tier talent to replace Ron so we can win 35-41 games again and shave the season ticket base down under 1000 people by the end of the year, and so of course would look for a Howard, Odom, Marion or whatever it takes to be able to play make believe and pretend to be a big boy rather than a speed bump. But from an actual intelligent rebuilding standpoint, an emerging young big (albeit I think a backup type talent, not starter) like Bass would be one of the pieces I would like to acquire for the long term -- a Howard would just be future tradebait assuming he doesn't go all Cheech & Chong on us.

Still would need more though before even I would even remotely consider it, let alone our front office. Start with a pick and go from there just to get me talking -- problem being that Bass and Howard are pretty much the only decent players on their team under 50.

are you people kidding me?? we're getting two very good bench players.both of these guys are enders. they both expire the season after next. petrie, make the trade!!

Only problem with Bass is that you have to re-sign him next offseason at the same time you also have to figure out what to do wtih Garcia. But I agree with what people are saying -- he's young, athletic, and a really good defender. If Dallas throws in a 1st I think it has to be up there.

its possible that there are better offers that we'll see, but this is the best one thus far. our bench gets better with stack

beno/douby
martin/salmons
garcia/stackhouse
bass/thompson/moore/thomas
miller/spencer

why i would start bass? he's a proven scorer. he's a very agressive defensive player and rebounder. much better than mikki moore. bass plays like he's 6'11. talk about a young and talented starting lineup. and in less than 2 years moore, thomas, salmons and miller will be gone. we will have the space to sign anyone we want. hello NBA finals.

Ah Bass... the lynchpin of our championship run!

i dont think bass will make us a contender. we could use him off the bench once we get a true center. and sign guys once we clear some space

first off bass is only making 800,000 a year. gimie a break. he's undersized but he's DEFINATELY better than mikki moore.
So is that the criteria for trading away Ron now? Two bench players that are expiring, one of which is "better than mikki moore"? Why trade him at all then? At least get a pick out of it if that is how low your sights are for trading him away.

get a pick out of what? what pick? our pick? have we had any luck in the draft? ever? if we dont see a better offer we go with this trade. can you explain why we shouldnt? cuz i can explain why we can. and it begins with both stack and bass are expiring. and they're good

How about this?

Dallas
Josh Howard
Jerry Stackhouse
Brandon Bass

Sacto
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas
Sheldom Wlliams

Works on Real GM

Why sacto does it:
Since we have to take 2 yrs of Howard, we get rid of two years
of Kenny Thomas
Stackhouse this year and Howard next years would be quality enders
that could be used to get youth/picks
Bass is a better youth backup than Sheldon

Salaries save 2 mil this yr, adds 2mil next year-a wash
We pick up 3 players that might actually play

Why Dallas does it:
They really want Artest over Howard

I have 2 things that would only make me happy with any Artest Trade.

1) Kenny Thomas must be included in the deal. This is a MUST in my book.
2) Any contracts we get back are enders at the end of the 08-09 season. This would be very nice, but not a deal breaker. At least one contract has to end at the end of the 08-09 season, and any others must end no later than the end of the 09-10 season.

Stack is getting old and Bass is OK, but I'd rather have 1 year of Odom and get rid of a year on KT's contract than that deal.

I'd rather get a pick as well instead of another player we really don't need this year. Next year or 2010 is when things might start looking up as far as free agency depending on what we do with Ron, KT, SAR, and Brad. this year isn't going to count for much, I think. Why add more players we really don't need unless they are better financially than what we have now (as far as a shorter contract)?

Yes. Kevin Martin for starters. Fracisco Garcia is and will be a solid contributor. Hawes is shaping up to be another, and if things go well Jason Thomspon and Sean Singletary will shake out to be two rather good draft picks.

Did anybody watch Bass play the hornets in the playoffs? He was very impressive, but I don't know if that's a Jerome James situation or if this kid will be a force in the future. He and Dirk were the only guys who showed up, and Bass was killing NO.

Damm Tyrant, you had me on your side to a certain extent right up to when you went off and got stupid on me with this comment. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

As far as the trade goes. The part that doesn't work for me is the lack of K. Thomas being included in it. It appears, at least up to this point, that Petrie is determined to unload Thomas contract as part of any deal he makes with Artest. Where as I'm not a big Howard fan, I actualy like Bass better, so I don't have a problem there. Stack, although he can still play, is nothing more than an ender with the right amount of salary to make it work. I don't see Dallas taking on Thomas contract, so I would assume the deal as it stands now is dead.

At this point, I think any of these deals are good as long as KenBill are parting ways with Sacramento. I watched that video on Bass and remember him playing last season in the playoffs.

Throw in a future pick, and it's golden.

I love Bass. He's the only guy for Dallas that showed up in the playoffs last year. Plays much bigger than his height, is powerful, quick, and can jump. Good instincts to get the ball. We're in desperate need of athleticism and this guy is athletic as anyone in the league. Just starting to show his upside. If this deal is for real, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

This offer is borderline insulting.
I'd say Artest's antics off court are more insulting than this trade offer. Bass is an upcoming player and Stackhouse is proven/seasoned. Hell, package Mikki Moore while you're at it coz we don't need him either.

Mavs are trying to bounce back from yet another coaching change. I'd send Ron over there just to throw another wrench into the organizations fumbling gears.

We are not going to get a much better deal then this... Because of rons silly games he decided to play. But...
We are getting our young big in Bass(23 years old) and Jerry Stackhouse who we could look to trade for more pieces. I'm sure championship caliber teams would be interested in Stack... So this deal really dosent look as bad as you think. It would be nice to get a 1st rounder thrown in there but that would be asking petrie to do too much for us.
