I really liked what Bass brought in the playoffs this year -- could be a good young active backup big. Unfortunately he's small (and haven't we seen enough of that) and gives me scary Anthony Bonner flashbacks, but at least he's very strong and active, which are things you like to see in effective benchers. Thing is of course our roster is completely stuffed to the gills with old junk at that position (because Bass is small, he's mostly a pure PF rather than PF/C unfortunately) and we would need to clear it out to make room for him.
Stack is obviously worthless to us and just a matching salary.
Would need more, but given my general opinion that we actually have the SF positon covered (Salmons, Cisco) even WITHOUT Ron, I would not see getting Howard back as any sort of 100% necessity. Now of course knowing our front office and their annual push to be absolutely 100% as mediocre and boring as possible, they are probably thinking we desperately need a 2nd/3rd tier talent to replace Ron so we can win 35-41 games again and shave the season ticket base down under 1000 people by the end of the year, and so of course would look for a Howard, Odom, Marion or whatever it takes to be able to play make believe and pretend to be a big boy rather than a speed bump. But from an actual intelligent rebuilding standpoint, an emerging young big (albeit I think a backup type talent, not starter) like Bass would be one of the pieces I would like to acquire for the long term -- a Howard would just be future tradebait assuming he doesn't go all Cheech & Chong on us.
Still would need more though before even I would even remotely consider it, let alone our front office. Start with a pick and go from there just to get me talking -- problem being that Bass and Howard are pretty much the only decent players on their team under 50.
