I don't often post trade ideas, but I've got time aplenty so I decided to experiment on TradeChecker. These aren't going to be popular suggestions, but I'd be OK with them if they went down.
First suggestion:
Kings Trade:
Ron Artest
Mikki Moore
Kenny Thomas
Kings get:
Eric Snow (expiring)
Wally Szczerbiak (expiring)
2009 1st Rd Pick
Cleveland Trade:
Snow
Szczerbiak
'09 1st Rd pick
Cleveland gets:
Artest
Moore
KT
Why for Kings: Gets rid of Ron who doesn't want to be here. Gets rid of KTs contract, as well as Moore to clear space and to get extra time for Hawes and Thompson. 1st round picks are always welcome and needed in a time where we should be rebuilding. Clevelands pick will likely be in the 18-24 area, giving us a shot at a good prospect.
Why for Cleveland: They need help badly. Ron will give them that. Moore can give them some extra depth also. If it doesn't work out, it's not like they're stuck with long contracts. If they want this deal they have to take KT.
Note: I am not one of those posters who is willing to do anything to get rid of KT, at this stage he doesn't bother me alot since he doesn't play. But, it would still be nice to turn him into an expiring.
People are going to hate the above, as they see it as a "talent bleed". Maybe peope feel we can get something better, that's fine. I don't think we can if we want to include Moore (I do) and KT. As well as getting an extra pick and a higher one for us with the loss of Artest, it also opens up alot of minutes for Hawes and Thompson to develop, as well as Garcia at the 3.
I'll edit with my other ideas shortly.
Alternate idea:
Kings trade:
Artest
Kings get:
Bobby Jackson
Donte Green
'09 2nd Rounder
Rockets trade:
Jackson
Greene
'09 2nd Rounder
Rockets get:
Artest
Why for Kings: Ron is pretty much an expiring anyway, but getting Greene for nothing would be pretty nice. He's young and talented so he's a welcome addition. Losing Ron also helps our draft position. We might have an actual shot of getting a legit star. Can you imagine a core of Rubio/Martin/Greene/Thompson/Hawes with Garcia off the bench? Add in a couple other high picks and that's a very good young team.
Why for Rockets: As has been proven, you need a trio to get it done. While T-Mac/Ron/Yao wouldn't be a definite, they would be closer than they are now, especially when the west is so tough. It's pretty much trading Greene for Artest, and Greene isn't near ready to help them yet.
I'm not 100% sure if they can trade Greene, but I think they can since he was a 2nd rounder. If they can't, just substitute him with an '09 1st rounder.
