wtf happened to Beno?

I mean, that guy was really pushing for that sizeable contract this summer...what happened? I know he was injured, but in what way and how severely?

How do you think this will effect the price we pay for him this offseason, if indeed we do pay for him at all?

I believe he has a back injury. Last I heard (at the game the other night) that with the season almost over, he would rather let it heal well than take a chance on it. So, he could be gone for the season.

As for how that affects the offer we make...who knows? I do believe we will make an offer and he will strongly consider staying. He got a chance to start here and with Bibby gone, he'll probably remain our first option at PG.

dude this guy is trouble. yes he's got game but NO more lame contracts for players that aren't going to be the future of this team. he gets a 2 year deal for under the way under the mle with the 3rd year being a team option.

this guys a joke with the injurys. thats why the spurs let him go and his careers been a bust till a team as desperate as us played him. Greg Pop said it
best in that he (Beno) had plenty of game, but is soft and unwilling to play if he's even just a little dinged up. nothing wrong with missing time with injurys but beno is a wuss straight up. thats what Greg Pop was saying, and being a wuss doesnt fit into most teams systems.

also Beno is a good PG, but by no means great. he has a long way to go before he's anymore than just good. Can he even drive to the right? hes like zoolander

he was a great player to have for this year, and if we DONT draft a PG then it'd be nice to keep him till we get a real PG. but Beno is not the answer.... hes a super solid backup at best.

Last night they said on the Denver broadcast that he had a pulled groin. I think he is hurting himself and in the same sense helping us with his contract situation. A 2 year deal at about 6.5 mil with a team option for a 3rd year would be about par.

Yeah, I can't seem to find where Pop called Beno a "wuss."

2 years under the MLE is an insult to what he's done this year. Maybe he is injury prone, or maybe it's a fact of trying to do too much to prove himself to Sacramento, thus pushing when he probably shouldn't. This is his first year playing so many minutes; it's kinda like when the rookies fade late in the year. Who knows. In reality, I'd easily take Beno over quite a few starting PGs.

To answer the original poster, I think I agree with Entity. Injuries will probably play a role into how much he's paid. There may be escalators for playing a certain number of games, or something similar to that.

Sacramento thoroughly outplayed the Spurs in the third quarter and led by as many as 18 before San Antonio cut it to 86-73 heading into the final period when Washington swished a 3-pointer from 39 feet out at the buzzer.

“The difference in the game tonight was Beno Udrih,” Popovich said. “Beno was great.”

The 2+1 Year player option at MLE deal is perfect for Beno. That means he'll get a major raise over anything he has made before in his career. By the time his option comes around teams will know exactly his long term worth and will make him a long term deal just as he reaches his prime.

What has happened is that his value has gone down, down, down. Back injuries are the last thing that a GM wants to invest heavily in. He has an injury history, and it's continuing. No way should Petrie give him the MLE. I thought $5 mill before the back, now I'm thinking $3 mill.

That contract is too big.
And I can't speak for anyone else, but if we never gave out another player option, it wouldn't break my heart. They may be fine as a last resort in negotiations which would otherwise be lost, but I see no point at all in giving them away just to be nice.

I think they may mean a team option in this case, not a player one.

Let him walk away back injuries can be very chronic. There will not be a shortage of good pg's anytime soon, so a free agent pick up and maybe drafting demarcus nelson in the 2nd round might be a good move.

Beno is soft. All this talk about signing him and the length of a new contract will be moot unless he gets into a lot better shape. If he was fitter he probably wouldn't be bothered by all of his nagging injuries.

Bad timing for Beno -- I am sure he does not want to return and reinjure the back to really scare away suitors, or return and play hobbled, put up bad numbers, and drive down his value. But a month ago he was turning into a pretty hot commodity around the league, and now with this injury he is both being forgotten a little bit, and reraising concerns about his durability (was always injured in San Antonio). Ironically it may help us to make a run at him this offseason, although I still doubt we can get away below the MLE.

I don’t want him to rush back, whether he’s with us next year or not. He needs to fully heal that back.

I’d like to give him a contract for a couple years until Brad’s, Kenny and SAR’s contract come off the books or/and also add a team option after that. We can then evaluate Beno and see if we should keep going with him or not.

Well, how about we fake some x-rays that show he has problems with his knees? :D
...who, Mayo??:p Not sure if that would fly, he's only 19 yrs old and had a pretty decent season. lol Maybe the Maloofs can use their Vegas pull and give all those teams free rooms at the Palms...or better yet, free rooms at the Mustang Ranch.:D
