what was the last movie you watched?

Midnight Cowboy, 69. Voight/Hoffman.

Felt pointless to me, best picture Oscar and all, but I did note that Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan mimicked a scene from this film. I was told by an older homie that it was avant garde for its time in the same way that Clockwork Orange was.

Saw Juno this afternoon.

Tries a little too hard to be clever, and has a few moments that are a little too precious for my taste, but overall I enjoyed it. Don't think I would have been quite so fond of it without the really good performances, though.

Went and saw In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale with my Dad. Do yourself a favor and just plop in one of the LotR movies in the DVD player to watch a quality movie in that vein. This was just.....not good.

I knew that going in, but Dad wanted to see it and he paid, so I'm not really out much. ;)

Two words: Uwe Boll.

The Sure Thing, 85.

Bad romantic comedy #1 in a long line for John Cusak. Sidekick role #2 in a long line for Anthony Edwards.

And Nicolette Sheridan at age 20 (hurt me...).

Live Free or Die Hard - Just plain silliness, but I enjoyed it.

Sicko - Blockbuster sent me this one over a month ago, but I hadn't made time to watch it until last night. Though I tend to agree with him on a lot of things politically, I'm not terribly fond of Michael Moore as a person; but it is almost impossible to deny his talent as a documentary filmmaker.

Cloverfield lots of people didnt like it but i LOVED it!
Saw it tonight. A few thoughts:

In general, I didn't mind the shakey-cam. It makes sense in the context of the movie. I just hate it when the director thinks that you have to accentuate the shakey-cam experience by holding the flipping camera off axis by 20-30 degrees half the time when nothing special is going on. If I am filming something, I make an effort to hold it pretty level.

Some of the dialogue was not the best. But whatever.

Some folks are saying "you never see the monster". Not true, you do see bits and pieces early and more later. Not as much as I'd like, but again, that's not the kind of movie this is. And I thought they did a good job with the monster itself.

They did some pretty dumb things in the move as far as what the characters do and the decisions they make. That, more than anything, annoys me. Maybe New Yorkers are just like that? ;)

The little monsters the main creature drops look an awful lot like the ones in "Starship Troopers" and the Antlions in Half-Life 2. Which is neither here nor there, just sayin'.

I had heard that the ending of the movie was
"ambiguous", with you not knowing if the creature survived, etc.
. There was a bit more at the end than I was expecting, but they were correct.

I like the fact that they didn't do anything TOO crazy with
the gal who got bit - you know, changing into a monster, hatching little ones, etc. Having her just get worse and basically just violently hemmorage blood at the end (behind a curtain) seems fairly plausible and not too outlandinsh, if that makes any sense....

So I guess, in general, I liked it. There are some annoying bits/elements, but I liked it. There could have been some improvements, though.

I've never seen Blair Witch or Lost, so those things couldn't taint my opinion of it. (I have heard complaints about this film with regards to these.)

3:10 to Yuma. I thought it was very good. I know a lot of people who thought it was "robbed" in the major Oscar categories, and I don't know if I can quite agree with THAT MUCH love... but it was definitely one of the better movies I saw this year.

Also caught River's Edge on cable and watched it for the first time in close to 20 years. Since its release, I'd forgotten both how unintentionally hilarious Crispin Glover's performance is AND how head-over-heels/wanna-have-his-babies in love with Keanu Reeves I once was.

Sweeney Todd.

Excellent movie. Superb acting and singing. Extremely dire plot though, if you are queasy at all to blood, don't see it. Otherwise, awesome film. John Depp truly can do anything.

Spiderman 3 is next.
Liked it, thought they tried to cram too much in and it would never end. Kind of shocked that it didn't wind up making the Oscar shortlist for visual effects, though maybe I'm biased on that. Pirates 3 which did make the cut is next on my list so I'm excited to see that too. I'll make it through all last year's block busters this week if Netflix is kind to me :)

Spiderman 3 is the worst movie I've seen since I watched the first 20 minutes of Envy four years ago. Seriously.

Boy, I tell ya, these Patriots fans'll watch anything...

Ha. It took me almost a year to get around to watching a movie all my buddies worked on. But you know, I finally had some time off the week before the Super Bowl :)
