Lottery position thread

Well, this one was pretty much going to be a woss from the beginning -- just little hope against the worst team in the league. Thing is you could have absorbed this one if you hadn't have pulled off the supid wosses vs. Utah and Phoenix. Now, however, it threatens to kncokc us back amongst a very titght pack.

I hope Petrie has a magic act planned this summer. Because if we keep dropping in the Lottery standings, next year is going to be more of the same.

I wouldn't get out the rusty razor blades quite yet. Our remaining games are against the Spurs, Warriors, Clippers, Hornets and Lakers.

True, but even if we run the table with a big Oh-fer, the best I'm guessing we can shoot for is 5th.

But we'd need a lot of help from the Bobcats, Sonics and Blazers.

Not a trio that instills a lot of confidence.

5 would put us in Hibbert/Horford range.

I know the Bobcats probably won't want to take on one of our vet contracts.

Do we have anything the Sonics or Blazers could want for their pick?

5 would have been lovely. Would have done two things:

1) would have given us a legit shot at a Top 3 pick 30+%. No guarantee, but enoguh I would have had butterflies on the day of the lottery.

2) Failing the Top 3, in all liklihood we fall no further than 6, likely remian at 5, and pretty much have our pick of all the non-Top 3 guys. Let Geoff do his thing with the whole cubbard full and him getting pick of the litter.

But that's longshot now. We pretty much need to lose out, and get a little help from some bad teams. Meanwhile our "coach" is playing to win, and only the Spurs of the remaining games should be a sure loss. The last 4 are all against decent but beatable teams in the #6 to #10 range. .500 squads, that as of right now are all squabbling over the last few playoff spots. We have to hope that they are still in the running by the time we run into them, because if things start to crystallize and those games against us no longer mean anything, we could be facing mediocre squads with no motivation. Dangerous.

Tied for 9th/10th/11th, as expected.

1. Memphis 19-60
2. Boston 23-54
3. Milwaukee 26-51
4. Atlanta 29-49
5. Seattle 31-47
6. Portland 31-46
7. Charlotte 32-47
8. New York 32-46
9/10/11. Sacramento/Minnesota/Philadelphia 32-45
12. Indiana 34-43

Well, I'm encouraged actually, because 5th is still very realistic.

We just need to run the table in the loss column and hope for a win here and there from our lottery "competition".

By the way, thanks for posting the reverse standings fnordius, These are the only ones worth looking at any more.

No problem, when I started this thread and found it had been made sticky, I figured I'd be needing to take responsibility for it.

Here's a bit more, so you can see what we're facing in terms of competition. I project outcomes based solely on the records of teams as they now stand, I assume the more winning team will beat the more losing team in all cases.

1. Memphis } Forget it,
2. Boston } we are
3. Milwaukee } never going to
4. Atlanta } catch up with these teams.
5. Seattle: at Phoenix, at Portland, at Lakers, Dallas: projected 31-51, 5th
6. Portland: Houston, at Clippers, Seattle, at Utah, Golden State: projected 32-50, 6th/7th
7. Charlotte: at Chicago, at Milwaukee, New York: projected 33-49, 8th/9th/10th/11th
8. New York: at NJ, at Toronto, NJ, at Charlotte: projected 33-49, 8th/9th/10th/11th
9/10/11. Minnesota: Dallas, SA, at Golden State, at Denver, Memphis: projected 33-49, 8th/9th/10th/11th
9/10/11. Philadelphia: at Boston, Orlando, at Detroit, Cleveland, at Toronto: projected 33-49, 8th/9th/10th/11th
9/10/11. Sac: at SA, Golden State, at Clippers, NO/OKC, Lakers: projected 32-50, 6th/7th
12. Indiana: at Milwaukee, at Miami, NJ, at Atlanta, Washington: projected 36-46, 12th

As you can see, I am projecting no more wins for the Kings this season, but if there were one, it would throw us straight into the 8/9/10/11 crowd, effectively dropping us by up to 5 draft positions (6th to 11th). There must be no more wosses!!!

That's what I would say too, but I am having a hard time seeing it with these clueless buffoons running around on our behalf. Few things in life as frustratring as watching people who do not get it run around in charge of soemthing you care about, without any recourse from your end.

Now you're reminding me why I stopped working in government.

Thanks for posting the "standings" each day!

So here's my dilemna. I want us to lose every game... BUT... if the Lakers need to win that final game in order to make the playoffs, do I want us to beat them to knock them out of the playoffs???

Absolutely. Darn.

We'd be doing the lakers a favor by knocking them out and we'd be doing ourselves a HUGE disfavor. Screw the lakers, let them get swept by Dallas/Phoenix

That's the other side of my dilemna. There'd be a huge satisfaction in knocking them out.

However, it would hurt us in the ping pong balls...

I just hate the Lakers, it's hard to decide.

I'm saying it would be doing the lakers a favor by putting them into the lottery. They're first round exits anyways, it would be much more helpful to them if they can get the 14th pick.

You know, I'm not so hung up on the Laker game.

During our 61 win season, we played the Lakers for the last game after we had already wraped up the NBA's best record.

We rested Vlade and Webb most the game, lost to the Lakers and couldn't have cared less.

Same principle now.

Teams we can’t “catch”

1.) Memphis -- 19 & 60
2.) Boston -- 23 & 54
3.) Milwaukee -- 26 & 51
4.) Atlanta -- 29 & 49

Teams we are right there with, equally bad

5.) Charlotte -- 32 & 47 at Chicago, at Milwaukee, NY at home

5.) Seattle -- 31 & 47 at Phoenix, at Portland, at Lakers, Dallas at home

7.) Portland -- 31 & 46 Houston at home, at Clippers, Seattle at home,
at Utah, Golden State at home

8.) NY -- 32 & 46 at New Jersey, at Toronto, New
Jersey at home, at Charlotte

9.) Sacramento -- 32 & 45 at San Antonio, Golden State at home, at Clippers, New Orleans at home, at Lakers

9.) Philadelphia -- 32 & 45 at Boston, Orlando at home, at Detroit,
Cleveland at home, at Toronto

9.) Minnesota -- 32 & 45 Dallas at home, San Antonio at home, at Golden State, at Denver, Memphis at home

Observations: Big game is Seattle at Portland, someone has to win. Philly at Boston is huge, need them to beat the Celtics. Portland has Golden State at home the last game of the year, game may mean nothing, Portland might win. Last game of the year is NY at Charlotte. Need Charlotte to win. Game will mean nothing for both teams probably.

Unless the Lakers absolutely need that last game to make the 8th spot.

Fine. I care. I'd love to knock the Lakers out of the playoffs. I guess it's just me.

Most likely the game won't matter anyway by that time.

We would be doing them a favor by saving them the humiliation of PHX/Dallas and giving them a 14th pick. Why knock them out? I want to see them get killed by PHX/Dallas on national tv.

So let me put it to you this way: Would you rather have a greater chance of getting Oden or Durant in the draft, or would you rather beat the Lakers?
If I could, I'd let the Lakers beat us this year AND NEXT in order to get 5th or 6th in ping pong balls.
