Tonight's theme: Absolute Must See Museums
Salmons ( B+ ) -- burst of hustle and fullcourt drives got us the lead in the first quarter after a slow start. And while he was very much the afterthought therafter with kevin and Mike putting on the show, he generally kept up. One area where he did not costs him a half grade: no luck whatsoever trying to slow down Gerald Wallace. I am reminded of how Bonzi outsaavied Gerald last year with physicality, and perhaps John is just too thin/finesse. Or perhaps Gerald just continues to grow. In any case a good Salmons night of 15 5 and 5 offset somewhat by the 31 9 and 6 of his counterpart (note that the Bobcats had Gerald at "PF" for stretches, and then John often had Matt Carrol, or Derek anderson, and those guys scored far too easily as well.
#1 -- THE BAKED BEAN MUSEUM OF EXCELLENCE (comes complete with its own Baked Bean superhero) -- Wales, UK, http://www.geocities.com/capnbeany/museum.html
Thomas ( C- ) -- in a game in which even Don Nelson would have been embarrassed at the "defense" being played by either side, Kenny still could not score. And maybe the rec league feel of this one just didn't mesh well with Kenny's more meat and potatoes game. In any case, did not really hurt us, but one of the few competent pros unable to get anything going in this affair.
#2 -- THE BUNNY MUSEUM-- Pasadena, CA, http://www.thebunnymuseum.com/
Miller ( B- ) -- he and Brezec were having an all ugly slow-off in the first quarter, yet both bigs were scoring fairly easily with their counterpart a good 15 feet away on most shots. Had a spate of turnovers in the third, normally following otherwise good plays (rebounds and then losing it etc.). Was still responsible for 3-4 of Kevin's hoops though with passes on cuts, and set several wide picks allowing Bibby to chuck up those ridiculously long threes in the late 4th. Tossed in a three in the last three minutes just to join the party. Complete lack of defense again, but in this game he was just part of the no defense party, and so maybe it does not knock the grade as far as it otherwise might.
#3 -- PHILLIP ROBINSON FRUIT JAR MUSEUM -- Muncie, IN, http://www.museumsusa.org/museums/info/1166874 (don't think they have a real website -- shocker
Martin ( A ) -- this one started in fairly unremarkable fashion for Kevin -- was off to the good scoring start again in al the normal ways, but wasn't doing much else and it wasn't clear whether it was going to be an impact game, or jsut one of those run up and down scoring while everybody else does too affairs. Well, turned out to be of the impact variety, and was very much along the lines of what happened in Indiana, albeit perhaps wiht Miek and Kevin switching roles. Kevin the guy who scored all game and had the big third, Mike the guy who sucked in the first half and then exploded after the break. In any case, these were not all easy looks for Kevin either -- scored on some tough takes, although part fo that was simply because the Bobcats do not have a single guard on their roster in the right range to matchup with Kevin (with the possibel exception of Gerald, who was pressed into a lot of frontcourt duty tonight with Okafor out). He was checked by 6'4" and decrepit Derek Anderson, 6'5" unathletic Matt Carrol, 6'1" Raymond Felton, 5'11" Brevin Knight...and just went right over and around all of them. A bit of cruel irony in that on a near career night some of his thunder was stolen by maybe evena more impressive ngiht from Wallace, and then a silly late shooting display by Mike. Actually maybe nto so ironic in that numbers will get put up in a game played like this (much pace, no defense). But in any case Kevin was still the best player on the better team tonight, and the competition for player of the game does little more than knock off a potential plus from this grade.
