Allen Iverson - MERGED

#31
stephen a smith just said, top 3 destinations for a.i.

1. minnesota - randy foye and others
2. sacramento - mike bibby and others
3. la clippers - corey magette and others

also said that the maloof brothers would be delighted/ excited to bring iverson into sacramento
i don't buy it. and even if the maloofs were "delighted and excited" about the prospect of bringing allen iverson to sacramento, geoff petrie would likely advise them against it. iverson is in his early 30's now, and there's a lot of wear and tear on that body. not to mention the fact that mike's younger than AI by 3 or 4 years. you pull the trigger on a trade like that for a guy like KG, who's also in his early 30's, but brings all the tools that you need to the table.

At the same time, he's only signed for two seasons after this one (same as Bibby, actually, if he picks up his option). So there's a risk, but maybe not a huge one.

I highly doubt it, but, you also have to look at the prospect of Bibby opting out this offseason...or just becoming a straight free agent next season.

Kings don't want to lose him for nothing, OR, get stuck in a situation where they are overpaying him more.

I'm starting to talk myself into it. I mean, Bibby for Iverson? 20 points for 30 points? 5.6 assists for 7.3 assists? A borderline All-Star for a hall of famer?

I mean, at this point, especially with the uncertainty of Bibby's contract situation and how terrible the offense has been, what's there to lose?

I don't think GP would do it, but I share in this opinion.

Part of me wants the kings to do it and I would love getting Stephen Hunter but with Salmons, Artest, and Martin I can't really see it.

Oh boy -- I forgot about Salmons. He and A.I. HATE each other. Don;t think KT liked him much either.

There is a wacky hold onto your horses sort of idea to paring A.I. and Ron together (in Sacramento of all cities -- thugball hits the river city), and I can see the Maloofs doing it -- A.I. is flamboyant and might bring the posse down to their casino to shoot the place up. Literally. And A.I. is one of the few personalities so strong Ron might cater to him ont he offensive side of the ball.

And if it happens I could even see Kevin settling in as just an off the ball marksman while A.I. and Ron dominated the ball for 40% shooting. Brad too is effective as a standstill shooter. I could even go so far as to say that I think Philly might get BETTER as Webb wakes back up and he and Bibby resume their partnership + the kids get more involved.

But all of it would be for naught unless we really did goes balls to the wall and put together an Iverson style frontcourt to accompany it -- all shotblockers/rebounders with no need to score. Between A.I., Ron
, and whatever Kevin or Brad might get as outlet shooters, there are NO other shots available.

And finally the coaches -- I think Rick would roll over in his hammock at the complete destruction of every principle of Kings bball that he built up over 8 years. And Coachie probably just turns the TV off. And Muss...poor Muss. Not even sure Phil Jackson could handle that lockerroom.

I am down with it. I mean if you're going to have no offensive scheme, you might as well have Iverson to run it!

The Maloofs, as businessmen who want to sell tickets.... they gotta think about it. I don't care what anyone says - it is getting stagnant down at the Barn...

Come on do it!!!

I can't see Mike Bibby not getting a nice raise, be it for a few less years, but, a pretty nasty contract never the less when his contract is up. He's already getting paid too much, so an opt out is 10% more...

Bibby's a good guy, and a good player, but I don't want him on the books through 2012 with a Chris Webber style contract.

And you can't lose Bibby for nothing.

I'm in favor of it.

Just for fun:

Allen Iverson $18.2mil
for
Mike Bibby $12.5mil
Shareef Abdur-Rahim $5.4mil
Quincy Douby $1.2mil

Why Philly wouldn't want to just go into rebuilding mode I know not but... Bibby/Webb reunited. SAR the cheap PF placeholder if they can move Webb later. Douby the lcoal college project and "mini-A.I." to give them a little youth.

Ben Wallace $16mil
for
Brad Miller $9.6mil
John Salmons $4.4mil
+ mayeb a protected pick or ender or some such

The probelm being that A.I. and Salmons really don't like each other and John would ratehr quit than play alongside Allen. So trade him to a team wiht another malcontent aging star who RON doesn't like. Meanwhile Choicago likes Brad, and Salmons might be that big OG they've been looking for.

Then:

C- Ben Wallace
PF- Kenny Thomas
SF- Ron Artest
OG- Kevin Martin
PG- Allen Iverson

Bench - Cisco, Corliss, Price resign Justin Williams

It would be grand! Grumpy tough guy egomaniacs brawling at every step. Hip hop blaring throught the lockerroom. Brawls on the practice floor, on the court, in the stands. Armed posses facing off in the parking lot. The whole damn league would be too terrified to even make the trip to Arco and we'd go 41-0 every year at home just by default. Of course we'd probably show up to opening day to find that Kevin had been given an atomic wedgie and they'd held Muss down as they shaved his head into a green mohawk, but hey, whatever works. :D

Here is my idea...

Set Artest and Kevin aside.

GIVE THEM WHOEVER ELSE THEY WANT. I DON'T CARE WHO OR HOW MANY.

Get AI.

Fill the rest of the roster up with NBDL guys.

Hey, at least we'd be entertaining!

:D

I like Brick's lineup, with some slight alterations ;)

Ben Wallace
Eddie Griffin
Ron Artest
Stephen Jackson
Allen Iverson

There's no way anyone would play us. We'd go 82-0!

I'm not sure about AI and Salmons not getting along, but I thought for sure that Ben Wallace & Ron Artest didnt get along. I'll say though that this line up would be sick defensively. I'm down if everyone can coexist.

I'm officially drooling.

Um...did anybody else hear Carmichael Dave on KHTK today report that he's talked to several King sources that told him Bibby plans to opt out this offseason...

*adds fuel to fire*

Honestly tho, did anybody hear this? A couple people have said they heard it.

And a side note, Sixers President just confirmed that AI asked to be moved and they will do their best to do so.

AI have a no trade clause?

If not, who cares where he wants to go if you're the Sixers.

Minny doesn't have much to offer compared to other teams, sans Foye.

What in the world could they offer?

Randy Foye, 1st round picks till 3021, and one awful contract? lol
I would think Foye, Griffin, Davis, one of the PGs and a #1 or some such.

Would think Minny might like to keep James in that scenario as another hyper guard/6th man with A.I., then fill in with Jaric an Hassel at OG/SF defending + staying out of the way, and Blount at center just for an experienced hand.

Meanwhile Philly stocks up on youth, gets a major OG to fill that gaping hole next to Iggy, and makes due with I guess Hudson in that scenario? Or maybe just throw Foye out there to see if he can handle it.

OMG that's so scary and funny at the same time. Just say no to Danny Fortson though o.k.? Well what the heck, if you are going all the way, why not right? :p We'd sure give the old Jail Blazers a run for their money. This might be what it takes to keep the Kings here in Sac, but then again didn't we have like out 323rd consecutive sellout last night anyways?

I like that rough and tough image. I'd rather have KG at the PF than Kenny, but heah getting AI would really stir things up. I totally see the Maloofs going for it and pursuing it as they did Artest without GP, which in the end will mean GP doesn't have the control he should have and he walks on his own or the Maloofs shoe him out of town like RA. Kind of sad, but the Maloofs are pasionate fan owners and will make the big gamble to sell tickets and who wouldn't want to see AI and Ron playing together? KMart would be a great spot of shooter and should get plenty of open looks as he spreads the defense for AI and Ron to shove the ball down the throats of the opponents.

I just can't see what Minny could offer that the Sixers would like. But Allen coming out and saying he hopes to go there kind of screws the sixers at this point. He probably did it on purpose because he was mad the way the Sixers shut him out.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

For one, they have to wait for Webber to expire or move him...

The fastest guys to expire and Griffin and Davis...and that's only a combined 10 million dollars...and that's after this next season.

Foye is nice...but...they're getting Foye, and, well, not much else. A draft pick from a team with KG and AI wont be worth all that much.

Don't see how it's really all that good for Philly compared to some of the other rumors.

So either it's a 3 team deal or AI don't go to play with KG.

Another thing I was thinking about. AI really wanted CWebb to come to Philly and was a main proponent in getting him there. Now he wants to leave to play with KG. That's ****** up a little bit.
