Latest rumor about Bonzi

How does 16.8pts 9.5rebs 3.5ast 2.3stls 0.6blk strike you? (also 3.0To in the interests of fairness, if it even matters after you egt the above numbers out of somebody).
Obviously pretty good. But people complain about Bibby averaging too many minutes, and he averages 38 minutes a game, so I don't know if a per-40 minute average is a realistic benchmark. And I don't think the rebounding is likely to be repeated (although I'd be happy to be wrong). I think the likely averages for Bonzi as a starter with real starters minutes are 15/6/3 w/intangibles and toughness. Pretty good. I'd be pissed if he walked. But also not necessarily worth getting too excited and/or breaking the bank over.

Losing Bonzi for nothing would be a step backwards towards getting better. Bonzi is a very unique guard. He can score in the low post, shoot from midrange/three and also rebound.

Play Bonzi the whole game and I doubt he gets those numbers. He just seems to fall off a bit when he plays past 30-35 minutes.

The problem is Bonzi wants the same type of money that a player that performs consistently for many years. (I don't know why NO would pay Peja the type of money they did for consistently sucking in the playoffs each year) In any case, Bonzi simply hasn't put the numbers up for several years in a row. Be it from being benched or whatever, he didn't get the time. There is something to it, because even the biggest jerk-offs got playing time when they played for their team ... Rodman, etc... Bonzi's past is screwing with his future and there aren't any teams that will give him the money he wants .. including the Kings. Like it or not .. throw all his numbers up there .. that's the reality. He burned his bridges. Now, he needs to sign the fair offer that the Kings gave him, and we can move on. Bonzi will help the Kings win for the next few years, no doubt, but he simply isn't worth top dollar.

It hasn't been because of him though, except in 04-05, where it was both Bonzi/Fratello. But that was what it was.

Bonzi's a proven playoff player and starter at his position, has been since his 2nd or 3rd year in the league. His time with the Blazers and first season with the Grizzlies showed both, and then of course his season with us. He's been on deep teams and large rotation teams, outside of the Kings.

On KHTK tonight just before 5pm Grant stated very clearly that he believes that Bonzi will NOT be back on the Kings. He said his opinion is 98% he won't be signed but said that is only his opinion. Not being signed is key.
I sure hope the red head is wrong! Bonzi is tough and can rebound and get into people's faces. Brick said a lot which I totally agree with. I still remember the chant at ARCO of " Bonzi..Bonzi..Bonzi ! " Have we all forgot about that? Bonzi gets things done in the paint and causes lots of match up problems. He is one of the few tough guys in the NBA and that is the kind of person we need on the team. So what if he is 30 years old?

Hey fellas, new here to this forum. I'm a regular poster on realgm. I just found this site. Anyways, I think there's a good chance Bonzi may be gone as well. A guy from the milwaukee board posted on realgm that (he emails Larry Harris frequently and gets responses back) he was curious as to what they were looking to do with Magloire. He suggested Kenny Thomas and Garcia for Magloire and Harris responded back that he doesn't think the Kings are looking to move Garcia. Maybe this means nothing, but maybe the Kings know Bonzi is looking to go elsewhere. He technically could threaten to sign with the Mavs for their MLE, giving them a legitimate post threat and flat out SPITING the Kings for "low-balling" him and negating his money day( i think that's stupid, but possible). In the end though, if Bonzi walks, I will NOT be heartbroken, if he stays, I'm fine with that. Ideally, we get something of realtive worth and need for our roster, but if the options are crap in a sign and trade deal, I'd rather just let him walk and look to deal Kenny for the Like of Magloire or Joe Smith(expiring)/filler. Free up cap room for flexibility next summer and sign someone in the deeper '07 market.

Welcome Smills91. Thanks for the heads up. We need to make some moves and they are not happening just yet, which is making this a very long off season for Kings fans.

If Bonzi Wells or his agent think threats would work against Geoff Petrie, they simply haven't been paying attention. And it would make NO sense for them to do it anyway. The initial offer made by the KIngs was reported (unofficially, of course) to be higher than the MLE. If Bonzi threatened to accept the MLE from the Bucks, I'm sure Petrie would drive him to the airport.

The only thing that makes sense in this whole wait and see TDOS drama is if the Kings sign and trade Bonzi OR ink the deal to keep him here. Letting him walk is something Petrie wouldn't be too shook up about, IMHO, but it would mean a smaller payday for Bonzi in the long run and that would be plain stupid.

Definitely agree. I really think all this chatter we've been hearing from the Bee, Grant, etc. about Bonzi leaving have been generated by Bonzi's agent, and I'm sure Petrie is just sitting back and calling their bluff.

I'm on the fence about moving-keeping Bonzi. The single biggest issue I have is Kevin Martin. It's time for him to get big minutes and/or start at the 2. If Artest is our 3 then where does Bonzi fit? off the bench for either Ron or Kevin? can't imagine Bonzi will go for that. Or will he to get a championship?

That would be awesome: Kevin and Ron starters with Bonzi as the 6th man, in the BJax role of a few years ago or Corliss 8 yrs ago. Then Garcia and SAR/KT/new PF. Price behind Bibby and who knows, "Pooh" could be a long shot to be PG#3 and Douby is on roster for sure. Still leaves big hole in the middle.....

Maybe "no news is good news."

It honestly just occured to me that we really have done NOTHING this summer to improve the team. I know, technically, we still have plenty of time, but the "pickings are getting slim!"

The pickings are already slim. The only way to get what we need now is through a trade that will hopefully involve KT.

where exactly does this "feeling" occur?

"the kings are gonna re-sign bonzi...i can feel it."

"the kings are gonna sign-and-trade bonzi...i can feel it."

"the kings are gonna trade brad miller...i can feel it."

i never understood the usefulness of such "feelings." they just get your hopes up. in the wise words of sean connery's character malone in the untouchables:

"don't wait for it to happen. don't even want it to happen. just see what does happen."

Be prepared for "no ball". Bonzi signs elsewhere and Wizard Petrie pulls a 6-11 rabbit from his wizards hat, KT goes away and Amundson and Williams become REAL possibilities.
