Keegan’s getting the record by the end of the first quarter in the next game lol
Kiddo was hoping he'd wait until Friday, I was hoping I'd see it Wednesday.

Anyways I'll be the annoying guy at the Blazers game saying "with that 3 pointer, Keegan Murray has just set the all time record for 3 pointers by a rookie with N, surpassing the old record of N-1 held by, Keegan Murray!" after every single make.

Calling it now: Keegan will grow to be our clear #3 and a borderline allstar by mid next year. Will be in the running for MIP. His rate of improvement is unreal - and concerns about defense are being rapidly put to rest. Ceiling is a poor man's durant/more athletic Reggie Miller. Mike Brown seems to be an ideal coach for him.

He will be an allstar within four years. Prepare for this post to be screenshotted later.

Keegan doing this as an off-ball player as opposed to Spida and Dame, who are definitely not that, is insane.
Yeah but somehow the fact he is off-ball and has done it with 65 less shots than Dame and 100 less than Spida is to be held against him. Because reasons.
He’s done it in less games too.

Keegan’s shot volume is very close to Dame’s, while Donovan had a higher shot volume.

But with how the game has been changing over the past decade, it’s no surprise. Had Dame come into the league 5 or 6 years later, he’d probably have set the bar really high. Same for Curry.

With seemingly every player having a green light to shoot an open three, Keegan’s soon-to-be-record probably won’t last real long. That said, it also probably won’t be broken by a stretch 4 or even a SF either.

Honestly, the shooting prowess I’ve seen from Keegan this season is what I expected from Peja when he first came over to play with the KINGS, considering the kid hit 100/115 three’s during a practice session and his shooting ability was already very hyped up. It took Peja a bit to adjust to the NBA game, though.

If Keegan is already this efficient as a rookie, I can’t wait to see what happens as he further develops and learns the NBA game and, of course, builds up more strength.

It won't last long but it will probably be in the +20-30 range of the previous marks with the guys trailing actually coming into the league between Spida and Keegs. So it may stand for ~5 years and the person who breaks it may wind up being a total chucker and get criticized for going after the record instead of being a team player. So it's going to be fun when that happens, that's for sure. Especially on this forum I bet the mods can't wait

what’s the running list of Iowans in the NBA right now? Only a handful

HB
Keegan
Mcbuckets
Aj Green
Joe Wieskamp

List will grow in the next couple years with
Kris
Omaha Billiew
Tucker Devries
Yup, not been an NBA factory over the years. I wonder where Devries' dad ends up as a coach. I would think he'll get offers to move up if Drake has any more success. Seems more likely than when he was hired now that Loyola is gone from the Missouri Valley Conference (and obviously with no more Creighton/Wichita in the conference).

Which is funny because it just FEELS like a basketball state, no? I mean it's flat. The whole state is basically a basketball court.

We had to endure 4 years of Dadley so we could get to fully appreciate the grace of Kenyon Murray lol
That whole thread by Kenyon was really interesting. He points to Khris Middleton for Keegan, and I think Keegan himself has referenced Middleton before too. Kenyon also says that he's got to keep it real and admits that Keegan isn't a generational talent, but he has generational work ethic.

In response to that commentator claiming Keegan is a generational shooter, Kenyon claims that Kris might be a better catch and shoot player.

Couple thoughts, I don't like the Khris Middleton comparisons that much, but I think it could be Keegan's realistic ceiling... but it would be nice to aim a little higher.. maybe I'm not giving enough credit to Middleton, but he was the Bucks' 3rd/4th best player on their championship team and was never really considered one of the top wings in the league.

I think Kenyon is trying to boost up Kris because there's no way he's a better shooter than Keegan this year haha. Kris' shooting regressed this year while Keegan is about to break the rookie record. Some may point to the added pressure of Kris being the #1 option.. but Keegan did just fine at 39.8% during his final year as the #1 guy. However, I do think Kris' path into the NBA will be as a role player who can hit open 3s and play solid defense. I think he could end up fitting the better role player archetype than Keegan, but it'll only be because Keegan will look to expand all the other areas of his game.

We're apparently a women's basketball state now. I think they need to give Caitlin Clark a look in summer league. We've had some guys in the NBA over the years but they usually leave the state for college. Before HB and Doug McDermott it was Nick Collision, Kirk Hinrich, then Kyle Korver.

yeh I’m not sure how comparable Khris and Keegan’s game are. Keegan has played basically one year as a perimeter player (this year) so I don’t think we know what he can be just yet. If you listen to Brown (gives his teammates too much respect and needs to be more selfish) Fox ( can be one of the best two way players in the league) And Delly (is going to be a superstar) you just have to think they are seeing major promise in practice, film room etc. it would be easy enough to say things like he is a great shooter and is going to be a good player in this league with more experience but they chose much different words. If one is to believe James Ham, the kings brass think he will be a better player than Lauri. Those are all pretty crazy things to say about a 22 year old rookie averaging 12 points.

I think id disagree with you slightly on Khris being the 3rd or 4th best player on that Bucks team. Id say he is second best with an edge over Jrue and Lopez due to his shot making. I think he had 40 point game in that series and you could make an argument they win it all with him healthy last year.

When we drafted Keegan I didn’t really expect him to be a star. I saw him as a super efficient 2 way player who impacts winning at one of the most important positions in the league. Then again I thought Doncic would be a 20 7 and 7 guy so I’d love to have underestimated Keegs and he turns into a star level player

hey now it’s not all flat, ask Julian Dubuque or Grant Wood.

I do think we are a great basketball state actually. 6 of our teams made the NCAA tournament (women/men) and the women are currently in the final 4. We can’t compete with the top schools in recruiting however so we are generally not near the top. High school basketball is pretty solid too.

I actually am hoping Iowa can become a Sacramento Kings state as we aren’t attached to the wolves and a lot of people stopped following the Bulls/NBA after Jordan. One of my regulars at my restaurant is a former Hawkeye and many of his friends have been watching the Kings because of Keegan.

Depending on the playoff schedule I plan to have a watch party at the restaurant and am hoping to turn some locals into fans.
