Free Agency

I would rather pay Crabbe $15 Mil than sign Affalo for $9 and Tolliver for $8.
It's never really that simple my friend . We always forget that free agency is a two way street. The other player must be agreeable to sign here too. Plus Crabbe is a RFA so puts hold on your cap space and Portland can always match.

Yep we essentially wasted three straight lottery picks in Jimmer , Robinson and Stauskas. Man if we could have even one of them back for do-over
Right..I don't have an issue with BenMac because that draft was bad. He wasn't a bad pick. WCS is still in wait and see mode but doesn't look like a bad pick but as you probably have seen, I wanted to take Mudiay and still wish we would have done that but WCS wasn't at all a bad pick. Hope I am wrong but I don't like this year's first pick at all.

Make it 31/2 as BenMc at this point is not really there either. BenMc is showing same symptoms as Derrick Williams. Can't convert his potential to anything noteworthy on the court.

Before anyone tries to compare him(Tyler Johnson) to Seth Curry, they are nothing alike.

He's a PG/SG, he can really play either position. He has amazing athleticism, quickness, and burst. Combine this with an extremely high motor. He loves to get up and down the court. On offense, he's a good ball handler who does a great job at getting to the rim, and attacking. He's a very aggressive downhill attacker. He does a great job adjusting his body and finishing at the rim. He's a great 3pt shooter as well. As a PG, he's a decent facilitator and plays very unselfish with a high bball IQ. He can also play off-the ball at SG. He does a good job spotting up or attacking close outs. Because of his elite athleticism, he can play above the rim.

On defense, he's good. He can guard both PGs and SGs. He's a very pesky and tenacious defender who can put a body up against them.

I would've loved Tyler Johnson here, but Vlade thinks otherwise. He's going to be good.

Johnson is also restricted. It would have used up all of the Kings remaining caproom to sign him to an offer sheet and if the Heat waited the full three days the Kings would potentially miss out on both Johnson and any other FAs that the Kings have their eyes on.

Our chances of being good this season were always going to be the Cousins and Joerger dynamic. If Joerger can get Cousins playing like "9-6 Malone Cousins" than we are a team that can win on any night. That Cousins was playing like a top 7 NBA player affecting the game huge on both sides. There just isnt a player like Cousins in the league and most teams arent geared to stop him with the small ball era. Joerger has proven he can get the most out of a average roster so that will also be key. One other thing im hoping for is WCS taking a big jump. If Willie makes a jump and is a 30 minute a night starter, that frontcourt is scary.

Yeah, that's always the negative with RFAs. It's the main reason why no one has offered Crabbe anything yet. Johnson hasn't signed the offer sheet, so it'll be interesting to see what he does. I hope Vlade can put up a similar deal. He would be a very good fix for our PG position while Collison is suspended. Could be a great option at SG if Afflalo/Ben don't live up to their play.

At the very worst, he's a top tier backup PG. He's actually 2 years younger than Seth too.

Via David Alridge a few minutes ago:

Kings, moving on from Rajon Rondo, are comfortable with Darren Collison as their starter next season, I’m told. Will look for backup PG.
So do you guys think the Kings feel Collisons punishment if any will be minimal. Most teams would renounce the player right away. I may be in the minority but im glad the Kings didnt. Darren has been a class act his whole career and made a mistake that im sure is killing him.

I like this approach. Sign Curry and then look at trades for Gay. If none are there, roll into the season with him as the starting SF.

Collison/McLemore/Gay/Thompson/Cousins was statistically a very, very good starting five under Malone that was hampered by a historically awful bench and ultimately an impatient/inept front office and ownership group.

Collison/Afflalo/Gay/Cauley-Stein/Cousins could be as good or likely better as a starting unit and then Curry (if resigned), McLemore, Casspi, Tolliver, Koufos, Papagiannis & Acy (if resigned) along with Richardson and Labissiere and possibly Cousins would be a significantly better bench than Sessions, Stauskas, Casspi, Williams and Landry

I do think the Kings need a solid PF though. Tolliver is a decent situational player but I wouldn't want to have to count on him every game.

I'd be fine with that roster rolling into the season but I'm also keen to see if Gay, Koufos and/or McLemore can net other pieces that might fit better. Still holding out slim hope for a trade for Bledsoe and then signing Curry, Matt Barnes and a solid PF - maybe Acy.

I'm only saying that because he tends to turn into a GOD when he plays us; the ultimate King's Slayer.
Crawford is an outright assassin , at least whenever he plays us . Or does it just highlight our lack of perimeter defenders all these years? I remember Ben and Stauskas just getting lit up by him every time .

I'm surprised that Acy hasn't been looked at so far, he played tremendously for us this past year and with all these crazy contracts for bench players, he will be a bargain for some team. I don't think he really fits with us anymore now that we drafted bigs and signed a stretch 4, but I would love to have him back while the rookies develop.

PS. What's going on with Moreland? Is he a possible trade asset or will he forever be in a suit due to his shoulder?

It's no secret I wanted Crabbe badly, but like I said yesterday, if Vlade truly believes that Bogdan is our SG of the future then there is no reason to spend $15 million a year on a long term deal for a player of the same position. I think Vlade is being wise. He's not just looking at this year.
