I wasn't aware that the best big man of his generation, coupled with an elite defensive mate, with a defensive/rebounding project automatically eliminated you from playoff contention, regardless of if you have a top 5 sf, defensive stud/3 pt specialist SG, and former 4x all defensive team point guard and excellent assist man.
Well, now I know.
So your argument is basically that:
If wcs is the exception to the rookie big man struggle and reaches hit potential on year one
If undrafted Moreland comes out of nowhere to not only earn any minutes but also to be a key contributor
If Matthews returns quickly from a major injury
If rondo plays like rondo of 3-4 years ago instead of the malcontent who no longer defends and can't shoot at all
If all that stuff happens, we'll be in good shape.
Instead I look at the more realistic side that says wcs is going to need the regular time a rookie big takes to get up to speed, that Moreland hasn't done anything to show he is more than a 5th big, that Matthews will probably need time to get up to speed if he ever reaches his old self and that rondo isn't the same guy he was when surrounded by a bunch of HOF's.
If that happens, we should be much improved, might make the playoffs but aren't contenders.
