Kings and free agency - part 2

Thing is, this guys aren't coming of a possibly career altering injury...
Again, same thing with all the WCS injury hype. Trust the team doctors. If he passes the physical fine and we see no ill-effects, then we shouldn't be concerned. Not like Matthews is a Derrick Rose case or something

Lol yeah man. This is a real model franchise that embodies winning. It's def the medias fault this team has been rebuilding for a decade and still can't manage 30 wins.
Oh just because I'm arguing about your point that this franchise is a joke, it automatically means that I think this is a real model franchise that embodies winning now? #failedlogic

Again, I digress. Can we go back to arguing who we should get in free agency?

Speaking of which, I think the same question is valid to ask about Rondo- "is he someone that would have came off the bench and stuck to his ROLE or would we constantly hear him complaining about wanting to start? It's not a deal if he's disruptive."

That's one of my fears about getting Rondo- we have already seen he can act badly if things don't go his way, and there is a good chance DC is a better player than him- would he handle it if you took some of his minutes?

Good question.. I doubt it unless he knows for himself that DC is better. If ther eis an injury hindering him a bit he might take a bench role for a few games and not complain about it. But if it's outright a bench role he would probably complain. DC wouldn't complain though and I think that's what you need to do. Start Rondo and play him with DC a lot and move Gay to PF and Matthews to SF.... Problem solved lol.

But always start Rondo.. DC won't complain if he has a bench role.

I agree with you on that, it just that this things factor in players salaries.

I honestly think a healthy Matthews is one of the best SG's in the league, but this injury is harsh- and even doctors can't tell you with complete certainty what's going to happen with it, he could be the same- or he could never resemble the player he once was.

Nobody knows for certain- and that's why it will factor into the salary...

Well, no, its not the same. IT would've been a long term issue if that happened, we'd be stuck on a long term contract...but we could probably shop it. On a one year deal, we could cut Rondo and eat his salary for the rest of the year and go into summer 2016 without him.

Suns just dumped Marcus Morris and two other contracts for second round pics. It's rumored that they may need to dump Markief and PJ Tucker, too. I'd love PJ Tucker on this team. He's a great defender and decent 3-pt shooter.
The price on Tucker is more or less right, but I don't think he's nearly the player Matthews is. And assuming Rondo is going to be a go, I don't see us having the room for both Wes and Tucker. Have to be one or the other.

Morrises I'm not interested in. Their legal trouble right now is a big red flag. I'm surprised Detroit picked Marcus up.

So you DO think this franchise is a joke?

Re: Monta Ellis

Read through entire thread to see if anyone mentioned reason besides Kings dysfunction that Ellis opted for Indiana. State Taxes! Indiana's state income tax is FLAT 3.4% of a taxpayers federal adjusted gross income. California State income tax is certainly not flat but graduated up to whopping 13.30% for incomes over $1M plus sock it to 'em hard millionaires additional tax of around $110,000 . Thus Mr. Ellis might have looked at that stark comparison and simply opted to work in a low taxes state (Indiana) instead of outrageously high tax California. Would be saving approximately $170K on his state income taxes annually. Of course if Monta Ellis was employed in any one of the current ten US states with zero state income tax he would have made out even better (Tennessee, Texas, Florida, etc.). Either way, dysfunction, reputation, high tax situation - sadly adds up to strike three for many FAs looking at Kings franchise.

If the plan is to play Rudy at the 4, Tucker and Wes would be damn good wing defenders, with good outside shooting. Tucker's only 2/10.5 left, which is really reasonable. And to be honest, I'd rather have Tucker and his contract than Wes at 16+ mill.

I think the original post was completely off-topic and so negative that I had to point out in hopes that we won't see such thing again in the future.

Nothing else really matter to our conversation/argument after that.
ah ok, fair enough...but i think FA, and in particular this FA period in relation to everything that has gone on, and that comment kind of go hand in hand.

Kings can always acquire Wes via S&T (Landry, Stauskas, Mccallum and Stockton) after they take Tucker into cap space and sign PG for $4 million with the rest of the cap space. Then arrange another S&T for Koufos (JT+rights to Euro guys).
I don't see Suns dumping Tucker though as they would still need someone to play SF.

Are you trying to be funny

Cause we have already traded the guys you offered we should trade...
Nothing actually happens until July, 9th. Landry, Thompson and Stauskas are still going to Philadelphia, but Kings can use their salaries to arrange S&Ts. Portland get Mccallum+Stockton, Memphis get rights to Euro guys for their trouble. Everybody's happy.

That is simply NOT going to happen. Ever.

Anybody know what time the meeting with Wes is? I keep checking my phone, hoping to see a confirmation that we actually signed him (since we NEED to sign him today), but so far nothing (as you all know). Anybody got details?

The only thing I've seen is this:

Leo Beas @beasleo
I can confirm that Wes Matthews meeting with the Kings is finished. More news to come later #NBAFreeAgency #NBAKings

Another situation where I dont know who this guy is, it was just retweeted so it showed up on my feed. But passing along in case it helps

Damn the media circus sabotoge really f'd us didn't it? How likely is it to win a championship while having to overpay for free agents by at least a million dollars each?

It appears just from the schedule that signing Matthews is priority #1 and whatever is left over would be used to get Rondo. Does anyone else get that impression? I think the interest goes like this: Matthews>Ellis>Rondo. The reason I think Rondo is at the bottom of the list is because he will be the easiest of the 3 to sign.
I'd say Matthews = Belinelli = Beverley > Rondo = Lin

For those interested in percentages, that's a minimum 8.3% tax.
EXACTLY. Many of the national media are quick to point out that the Kings have to overpay for free agents but fail to understand the tax situation as a major reason. It fits the narrative though since being 10% accurate in reporting seems to be acceptable these days.

I'm so anxious to hear about how this meeting went. Frustrating to see all these free agents sign deals while the Kings havent done anything. Maybe its a good thing because no leaks have gotten out, but it's killin me!

My concern is the strong impression I got from Dave yesterday that Vivek/Vlade and Karl are not on the same page, or really even close and the strong suggestion of continued dysfunction in our FO.

Are we even going to be able to make presentations to Rondo/Matthews on a united front? Anyone know if Cuz and Karl are even in town to help recruit? Looking around the league we're seeing head coaches and star players showing up at these presentations.
:D:eek: I had to laugh at that one. I noticed in the Voison article today that Gay says he's not recruiting anybody, including his friend Rondo.
