Kings and free agency - part 2

No, not right.

Matthews max would be about 74 million over 4 years. His last year may just touch 20.

First year 17.25M ish
There's actually a little secret, that
Larry Coon CBA FAQ
They use a different cap calculation to determine the maximum salaries, which is based on 42.14% of projected BRI rather than 44.74%.
so for Matthews maximum salary will start at around $16.25 million, if cap number is $69 million.

Kobe's the only instance it hasn't looked good, and that's Kobe being Kobe and thinking he's still playing at the level of an all-time great.
I'm not sure Kobe was there to sell him on Kobe, supposedly (I got this from Fox or ESPN last night), LA's pitch was based around how much more money and star power and exposure playing in LA brings and Aldridge didn't give a crap about that as he just wants to win. If so, kudos to him.

IF Wes Matthews leaves Sac without a contract, we are screwed.

The longer we go today without news Matthews is signed to 4 year 60 mil contract, the less likely it will happen at all.

We can't let him leave Sac without a contract or else he is just using Sac for leverage to get a deal elsewhere.

He probably is going to use us to hold out for leverage, all indications are his first choice is the Mavericks, especially if DeAndre Jordan goes there. He will definitely take less to go there, but still use us to get the most that he can. He would be smart to do so, doesn't mean he doesn't like us. At this point I'll be glad to be anyone's second choice as bad as that sounds.

I don't think the Mavs can offer him a real contract if DJ sign there... am I wrong?

Are you suggesting we kidnap him and shove him in a trunk until he agrees to sign with us? :p

He can leave without one if DJ stays in LA Matthews isn't going to Dallas to team up with Hibbert/Parsons/ and Dirk

No.
Freaking.
Crap.

I told you all on how huge of a value signing he was for the production. Now, he's among the best value contracts in the NBA.
He's a value, but is he someone that would have came off the bench and stuck to his ROLE or would we constantly hear him complaining about wanting to start? It's not a deal if he's disruptive. But I would stand corrected if he turns into a great role player.

Are we waiting to sign Rondo until after we sign Matthews? To see how much $$ we have left?

Just because you believe in something doesn't immediately makes it the truth.

Can we please go back to just talking about how bad our free agent signing is?
You are right, me believing in it does not make it truth...their hourly actions and past history however do make it truth.

4-60 would be great for Matthews. Knight, Carroll, Monroe, are all in that same vein of talent as Matthews and got similar deals. Its the market for above average players in the league now. It just looks crazy with all these role guys being paid more than the likes of Steph, Boogie, etc. But the market will adjust for them too once they look to ink new deals.

Speaking of which, I think the same question is valid to ask about Rondo- "is he someone that would have came off the bench and stuck to his ROLE or would we constantly hear him complaining about wanting to start? It's not a deal if he's disruptive."

That's one of my fears about getting Rondo- we have already seen he can act badly if things don't go his way, and there is a good chance DC is a better player than him- would he handle it if you took some of his minutes?

Thing is, this guys aren't coming of a possibly career altering injury...

Oh you mean all those "hourly actions and past history" twitted by the media that needs to bring "news" to get paid?
Lol yeah man. This is a real model franchise that embodies winning. It's def the medias fault this team has been rebuilding for a decade and still can't manage 30 wins.
