The more I wait the more I think Karl didn't want to look like a scumbag if they lined him up while Malone was still at the helm, but the deal is pretty close to done. It's the only way I'm ok with this move so I really hope that is the case.
I heard it was not just the "If they're interested in me I'm interested in them" it sounded like a "If they want me I am ready to go" type talk.

What happens is that quality coaches, outside of Karl, won't want to come here after what happened to Malone.
And the main reason that Karl would come here is his desire to break the coaching wins record. The second reason is PDA. Maybe Cousins is a reason, but I'm not sure he'd mesh well with Boogie. Karl is the prime exception. From the sound of it, they wanted Gentry as well, and I like Alvin Gentry. After how they handled things, do you think Gentry wants to come here?

Who is going to look like a scumbag if they string George Karl along and then hire Chris Mullin? Makes me thing Karl is in the bag, which is a good thing - but I hope he can start right away and not let Ty Corbin run the team too long... that will cost precious momentum with the fans leading up to the final Arco season and the new arena after that.

Musselman... Been there done that and the T-shirt never did fit right
Brown........ Worth a short thought but could not get the Gassol led Lakers anywhere so not sure he could do it here with DMC
D'Antoni..... PG centered coach who can ONLY run a team with a seriously dominant pg and has no idea how to use his bigs.
Jent.... longtime bridesmaid not sure he even wants to be head coach and clearly passed over by management with the hiring of Corbin= NO confidence
Corbin .... best on the list but still has yet to prove he can be an effective HC... he can however spell DEFENSE which is great if you want to build a quality team, but does not seem to be valued in the FO at this time. I personally WOULD give him a look assuming a top HC could not be had right now, and I hesitate to place Karal on the list of current top HCs.

Malone was a rookie and sophomore coach. You can't possibly compare him to Karl who's been in this league for decades with a tremendous amount of success. Vivek is at least smart enough to realize he couldn't push that type of thing on a veteran coach. Let's worry if someone like Mullin is hired. If a coach with some experience is hired, this is not an issue to think about at all.
