You know, we had a problem with this particular author a few years back and he writes a lot of twaddle, but everyone should read this. Time and time again we've had the stupid tanking discussion, and this is about as on point as you are going to get.

I think he has another appropriate quote that strengthens his comments:

Tank at your own peril, because you can't properly execute a lottery drawing; but rebuild in a second if it means saving the franchise.

Personally, I think he's making a distinction between merely tanking and actually doing the rest of the process.
