Worst trade of 2011 Offseason?

I don't care who disagrees. John Salmons will be our SF. he was SF with us last time and with Tyreke and marcus he will be SF with us this time. You must have looked at Salmons stats and saw where i was coming from. in 08-09 he was 49-118 3pts at 41% then in 09-10 he was 45-117 at 38% so yeah 4 missed shots actually 3 since he took one less attempt. but hey thanks for the math lesson. Just didn't need it when it was right in front of me lol.

I'm not sure about that. You're talking about a team who's coach started Sean May on opening night, Luther Head multiple times, and JT at the 3. If all of those happened, Jimmer could definitely start. Crazy? As crazy as our coach.

If Jimmer come into training camp, and does a better job than Reke and Thornton at setting up the offense, and creating for others, I'd say it's actually likely he starts. With no Beno, all the pressure is now on Reke to run the offense, and create/setup others. If Jimmer shows he's better.....he and Reke might be the backcourt. Not out of the question at all.

I dont get all the whining on this forum. Petrie was obviously trying to move beno so we could get jimmer and have room for him to play. Also, salmons might not be the perfect fit that everybody wants but he is still an upgrade in our weakest position and we still have money to spend. I think this team will do great going forward.

Honestly, this trade is not bad at all. We traded down for the player we wanted and got salmons along with it. I know salmons is 11mil more than Beno, but look at what he can do compared to beno. We all knew we need to have a SF and we thought omri/donte would be the answer but they're not even producing anything when they're on the floor. Also, this trade doesn't mean we can't resign dally or thornton. This didn't hurt us at all. We came out a better team in this draft. We now have 3 players that can shoot threes...Thornton, salmons, jimmer. Barry said on espn during the draft that we will be scoring a lot next season.

Do you understand what an upgrade is. Did you expect a superstar SF? we got a solid guy at SF now who has. oh and the difference between 41% and 38% is 4 missed shots in a season

If I'm following you correctly you are suggesting he's our 5th option and a good 5th option to have, correct? The problem is that dear old John has tried to play like a number one option the last 3-4 years of his career and has shown to be a problem when he isn't. Maybe he's going to finally get it but I wouldn't count on it.

And this ridiculous argument that it was a good trade because he's better than our other crap 3s? So are about 30+ guys in the league, some of which could have been had using all the $ we've been saving for years. So why trade down, include a valuable asset for a guy that we've already experienced as having some of the very flaws this team needs to avoid.

Is it really whining to say the kings could have just picked Jimmer at 7, used Beno as a mentor or trade bait, and kept financial space to find a better fit. Not like the season starts tomorrow.

Well, I don't particularly agree that Salmons is a downgrade from Udrih, but I'm not crazy about an encore, either. Would have preferred that Petrie held out for something better.

Problem is that you have to convince Salmons he is a #5 option.

This trade was bad in all ways imaginable.

1. Older player.
2. Older player that we gave up just 2-3 years ago.
3. Older player with a longer contract than what we gave up.
4. Jimmer was available at 7 if we wanted him that badly.

This trade goes down as one of the dumbest in Petrie history and that says something.

He mentally checks out, or starts hunting for shots. How can anyone assume, after looking at Salmons history, that he'd willingly take a back seat to Reke/Thornton/Cousins, at the minimum, without any problems whatsoever.

This was not a good trade.

Even if it were just Beno for Salmons it wouldn't have been a good trade.

By all accounts Brandon Knight was at the top of the Kings' PG draft board (well at least after Irving). We gambled that he wouldn't be there and lost. So basically we passed on Knight, gave away the only guy who passes on our team, got a player who has been disgruntled here in the past, took on more salary for more years, and got a older with this trade.

No excuses that we needed a SF so that's why we traded. Jeff Green is expected to look for about 4 years/30 million. You telling me we couldn't have sent him a nice overpriced offer? Or any of the other free agent SFs out there that won't be 35 in 3 years?

saying he is better than our current SFs isnt much of an argument. there are plenty of others our there that are considered better. and for those that say we might not have gotten ak/prince/battier through FA, im sure we could have found someone as good if not better for what we are stuck with with him at 3-4 years at 8 mil per year

This is confusing to me why not just take Jimmer at 7. Why not trade Beno and someone else for something better than Salmons.....maybe they are going to add Salmons to someone else to trade for something better........I thought maybe they would take some pieces and trade up.......I was actually thinking Petrie might be hiding an idea for getting Jan Vesely.....last years draft made incredible sense and they took the two players i wanted them to take this years draft makes very little sense......maybe there is something more hidden here some kind of summer shenanigans i dont know about.....very confusing indeed GO KINGS!!! The league better get their act together and play some ball this year!

because if your playing with better players, you automatically defer. When he was here salmons played with kevin martin, beno udrih, brad miller. back then you could argue he was our best overall player. martin obviously the better scorer, but salmons could create shots for himself and penetrate. Look at when he played with chicago, he knew his role and let rose be the star. He will know his role here and let tryeke, thornton and cousins be the 3 first scoring options.

i dont think everyone is saying they love beno now...theyre just saying hate salmons. just because we didnt think beno was worth his contract doesnt mean we would rather get someone with a crappier contract. at least if we traded him for a box of donuts we wouldnt be stuck paying 8 million a year for another 3-4 years

What progress? You realize the team lost more games last year than the previous year? Reke showed no improvements? Greene/Casspi showed no growth? Landry regressed and was traded away? If at best, things are moving laterally for one of the five worse teams in the league of the past few years.

He's going to NEED to do a lot more than just shoot. He's going to have to be a PG at the NBA level on a team with no other real PG to bail him out. He's going to have to defend quick NBA guards. He's going to have to learn how to work as a fourth or fifth option. He's going to have to defer and learn to be productive with maybe ten shots a game. He's going to have to get a bunch of me-me guys to accept that the college kid who puts up 30 shots a night wants to be their set up guy.

To prepare for the Kings, Jimmer doesn't need to watch tape of the team. He needs to go watch the movie Idiocracy and realize the world waiting for him, and that he's got Luke Wilson's role.

Eh, I don't like the idea of Jimmer Fredette as a Sacramento King in any way, shape or form, but I'll actually defend trading down for him... Why not just take Jimmer at 7? Because the difference between 7 and 10 is half a million per. Hell, if not for the fact that New York and Utah had both expressed interest, we probably could have gotten away with trading down to Indiana's pick, and still got him.

Looking at our team, it came down to one of two options:

We keep 7th but can't justifiably grab a person for the back court and resign Thorton. I don't think we could of gotten anything of value just trading Beno by himself.

We would of had Evans, Beno, Walker/Knight/Jimmer and Garcia. No way we would of spent money on Thorton to stay around.

The 2nd option was to unload Beno and still have a shot at a player we like and get a need addressed.

Now we have a solid rotation of Evans, Jimmer, Thorton, and Garcia. With Casspi/Salmpons/ Green rotation at the 3.

And lets be reaslitic, Jimmer will sell tickets, he will attarct attetion and get us some national tv coverage. At the current state of the franchise, we need this, we need people to pay attention to the Kings and more importantly their future in Sacramento.

True, but then why has Salmons been traded twice since then? He goes to playoff teams and then they ditch him. Not convincing. Jerry Reynolds loves him. That's pretty damning.
