Women's College Basketball

Thought I’d take the opportunity to highlight this weekend’s opening tip to the women’s college basketball season. And perhaps we can use this thread to highlight other upcoming televised games of interest throughout the college season.

State Farm Tip-Off Classic Sunday 11/13 on ESPN2 - a couple of doozies. Last year’s classic had two incredibly exciting matchups and the games did not disappoint either.

The early game 10am PST

Baylor vs Georgia

The national champion against a really good SEC team. If you haven’t had a chance to see either team, you’ll get a look at Baylor’s Sophia Young (a projected 2006 WNBA lottery pick) and Georgia’s very talented backcourt tandem, and a player who I SWEAR is the 2nd coming of Tina Thompson – and that’s co-national freshman of the year Tausha Humphrey.

(Humphrey shared the National Freshman of the Year honor with Stanford’s Candace Wiggins who netted a clean sweep in post season honors in the PAC-10 last year – haven’t seen her? Hit the road to Palo Alto to check her out. She was ridiculously good as a frosh and can only get better with age)

The 2nd game (roughly noon PST)

LSU vs Texas Tech

National Player of the Year and arguably the top pick in the upcoming WNBA draft Seimone Augustus and LSU meet up with host school Texas Tech and the point guard I love dearly and expect to be the Chicago Sky’s pick in the first round if they don’t steal Kristin Haynie from us, Erin Grant. This kid knows how to run a basketball team.
