Will Cousins be available at 5?

We all know Wall and Turner will be taken 1 and 2. Favors will certainly be taken 3 or 4. If he is taken 3, will the Twolves really want Cousins? They already have big men in Jefferson and Love. It doesn't really make sense for them. I think they would likely take Wesley Johnson, a wing player who can put points up.

If we took Cousins at 5, I would be satisfied.

Everybody here is hoping that Kahn will pass on a big man because he’s already got Jefferson/Love. First, this is the man that took two PGs last year because they thought they had the best value. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him use the same logic again. Jefferson is coming off an injury. They floated Jefferson’s name as trade bait. Big men are hard to find and a great value. They will probably be bidding for Gay. And they can later use Rubio’s draft rights to get a 3, but not a 5. Unless Johnson/other blows them away or they are scared off by Cousins, I’d be willing to be Minny takes Cousins.

I'm beginning to think there's better than 50-50 chance that Cousins will be there at #5:) Not only because of what you said but Minny has THREE first round picks. That gives them easy opportunity to go for Wes Johnson and then go big with other two picks - in a 2010 draft loaded with frontcourt bigs:D Keep prayin';)

I have a feeling this is the draft that we move up. It makes sense for both the T-Wolves and the Kings to swap picks. The only question is, what do we have to give up to get that done?

Twovles are really high on Evan Turner (who isnt) and with 3 first round picks they could offer #4 and 16 to move up to 2. Phili doesnt seem like a great fit with turner and Iggi. Dropping down to 4 Phili could take Cousins and be pretty happy they also have the 16th pick. They certainly wouldnt take Johnson @ 4 since they have Iggy. That is the situation that worries me the most. I dont think we have anything that would interest them to drop down one more spot.

This IS exactly what's going to happen. Minn. will either draft Cousins for themselves or find a trading partner.

I can guarantee that Cousins won't be on the board at the number 5 spot... I can only hope that we're not in the number 5 spot come draft day either.

I would love a deal that centers around Hawes, Thompson, #5 and expirings for Jefferson and #4. Don't know how the salaries match up, but those would be the pieces. MIN could grab a C, PF and still manage to get their wing player as well as cap relief.

If the picks were the other way around it would maybe make sense. But why in the world woud MIN give up jefferson AND the #4 pick (Cousins) for Hawes Thompson and #5 and cap space? They can easily move up to get Turner if they want, or draft Cousins and field offers for Jefferson, which they should be able to get pretty good value for a 20-10 25 year old big man.

They have been talking about moving Jefferson and his huge contract for while and they have made it clear that they want a wing player. They would be clearing Jefferson's contract while making room for Love as well as picking up a C, PF and SF. Never said they would, said I would love it ;)

Its too early to say because they haven't even finish the combine and then there are the team workouts.

But based on what we know today, I think there is a good chance Cousins falls to #5. You can seriously make an arguement that Wesley Johnson is a better player than DC.

The question would be if DC really proves to be nothing more than a slimmer Eddy Curry, do we pick him with #5 just because we need a big? I would say no. Cousins is one of those that can go as high as #2 and as low as #8.

I just don't like the fact that the Kings would have to give up something more valuable than say Garcia and next years 2nd rounder. Even giving up Hawes would concern me. Of all our bigs, Hawes is the one I would be most willing to part with, but man... I think Minnesota is just going to work us over, when they were going to take Wesley Johnson at 4 anyways.

One thing that we have to understand, is that we are coming from a point of view where our team is totally overloaded with small forwards, and here comes Wesley Johnson, so we have no interest, but Wesley Johnson could look really good to Minnesota from their perspective. Plus, look at the personalities of the two players. I'm not sure if Kahn is one of those types that really wants to draft "quality" people and avoid head cases. Because if it's a situation like that, then I'm sure he'll take Johnson. We can probably just stand pat, and Cousin's will fall right into our lap. If not, then I think we already have a contingency plan set up with Memphis to trade 5 for 12 and 25.

I think so. I'm glad there are other people looking at this objectively and see there actually is a decent chance he falls to 5. I have seen Mock Drafts today with Wesley Johnson as high as 2, Cousins as low as 6, and Monroe as high as 3. Nothing is a lock. They top 4 aren't anywhere near being set in stone.

I think there is a slightly better than 50/50 chance Cousins falls to us. If i"m Petrie, I take him. I;ve wanted him all along. But, I could easily see Cousins falling to us, and Petrie still passing. Just like Rubio last year. We all thought he would go #2, he fell to #4, and Petrie passed, to the surprise of many. Anyone who thinks this top 4 is a lock hasn't been around many nba drafts or done their homework. Just as anyone who thinks this is strictly a 4 player draft hasn't done their homework.

Cousins will likely be gone before we pick.

Though the Twolves already have Love and Jefferson, these guys are both PF and undersized to play C. Cousins will be a legit C for them.

So they might as well draft Cousins and trade Jefferson or Love later. Jefferson or a Love trade is sure to give them some legit players in return.

Our only possible problem is if its Wes Johnson that is left? He is a player that seems to bring immediate impact even as a rookie. But we got a log Jam at SF. The safest workaround would be to trade Nocioni + future pick or our 2nd round pick so we can draft some bigs or a SG(Henry maybe) within the first round.

But on who will take on Nocioni is the question. Donte is legit enough to slide at 4 for some games. So it's Johnson and Casspi who will be our 3.

If somehow, we can do this. Then I could see a lineup of:

C - Hawes\Thompson
PF - Landry\ Free-agent (Bosh or Boozer would be legit)
SF - Johnson\Casspi\Greene
SG - Henry\Garcia
PG - Evans\Udrih

i'm gonna sig this quote since he is 100% sure he will be gone. :)

john wall & evan turner will be for sure gone by the time we pick. i'm 1000% sure of it.

I'm with you. I've been around long enough to know that nothing is set in stone in drafts. Every year someone slips, this will be no different.

Sounds like the kings might pass too, but they could be doing that so people don't trade up. Could be very interesting to see Cousins drop to 6th though.

Here's some other mock drafts from this time last year. Things change after measurements and workouts. I wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Monroe outplayed Cousins in workouts and moved up. Cousins could drop to us, and we could pass.

Cousins starting off with a bang :)

Guys like him with uncertainty are the guys who slip. Last year Rubio and Jennings slipped for different reasons but they both had question marks around them that were not necessarily basketball related.

If Cousins keeps this up there's a good chance he is there for us at 5.

Cousins will not be participating int he strength test of the combine because "he hasn't lifted much and won't start now".

If true as much potential as he has and as much as I wanted him... I'll pass for a guy that at least is willing to work and not rely on physical attributed alone.
