Why not both?

Entity

Hall of Famer
I have seen trade scenerios concerning Peja for Artest or Donyell Marshall. Why can't we get both? We know the situation in Indian with Artest. Alot of us wanted him before the fight. He will be back in time for the playoffs + we would have him for 4 years after that. Now In Toronoto Donyell is getting no PT because of the youth movement. He is athletic and can shoot from the perimeter. He can also play the PF position when we need a quicker unit on the floor. Toronto is unhappy with Alston at the point and may be looking to rebuild there next season. Bobby Jackson has expressed he may want a new contract or a trade at seasons end so why not get someone for him now. This way we have a SF in Marshall for the rest of the season and come playoff time we have Marshall and Artest.

Sacramento trades: SF Peja Stojakovic(19.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 38.3 minutes) PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes) SF Erik Daniels(0.5 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.2 apg in 3.9 minutes) Sacramento receives: SF Ron Artest(24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes) PF Donyell Marshall(10.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.3 minutes) Change in team outlook: +3.1 ppg, +4.1 rpg, and -0.2 apg.
Indiana trades: SF Ron Artest(24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes) Indiana receives: SF Peja Stojakovic(19.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 38.3 minutes) Change in team outlook: -4.9 ppg, -2.2 rpg, and -1.2 apg.
Toronto trades: PF Donyell Marshall(10.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.3 minutes) Toronto receives: PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes) SF Erik Daniels(0.5 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.2 apg in 3.9 minutes) Change in team outlook: +1.8 ppg, -1.9 rpg, and +1.4 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Sacramento, Indiana, and Toronto being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Sacramento, Indiana, and Toronto had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Is there some news I haven't heard about Artest? I thought he was gone this yer right THROUGH the playoffs. Which would render any Artest talk this season totally moot unless we were just cashing in the season and giving up.

Artest will be available for the playoffs. and you have been the main one speaking about Donyell Marshall. Would it be cashing in the season to have Donyell at SF for the rest of the Season and Artest + Marshall in the playoffs. Then have Marshall for 2 more years and Artest for 4. About the Artest suspension. Stern is already letting him practice with the team. He is constantly answering about an early return. But yes he can come back for the playoffs if not why would he be practicing.

On a side note. With Bibby, Mobley, Marshall, Webber, and Miller as the starting 5. That is still one of the best starting 5 in the league. We could bring in Barnes at the 3 and push Marshall to 4 and bring in Songala at Center for a very quick unit when needed. And come playoff time. Bibby, Mobley, Artest, Webber, Miller with Songaila and Marshall off the bench + Evans and Barnes. We will be weak at the point. But its a pipe dream in hoping that Jackson has any kind of shot when he comes back IF he comes back from wrist surgery.

Its cashing in the season to lose peja this year without Artest being able to play, and as I understand it as of right now he still can NOT play, even during the playoffs. I found the return to practice interesting as well, but unless I am badly mistaken , at the time the suspensions were announced it included the playoffs, and I do not believe there has been any announcement changing that.

I like Marshall for the Kings, but not better than Peja head to head (indeed I liked him as a 6th man behind both Peja and Webb). If I'm right about Artest still being out for the playofs, then trading Peja for him this year is giving up the season (and I don't know why you wouldn't just wait until the summer and get the extra half year out of Peja).

Everywhere i am looking is saying suspended for season. Most say basically a 72 game suspension. Artest talks about being back for the playoffs at Indychannel.com
Some Forums i found like a spurs forum said he should have been suspended for the playoffs as well which indicates to me that he indeed wasn't suspended for the playoffs.

I am not saying i am right i am like you i imagine just looking around. I agree if we don't get him for the playoffs then no deal. But i would really like to see some concrete evidence either way.

TNT interviewed david stern yesterday.. they asked him if he was considering to let artest play in the playoffs.. he said (paraphrased) "i have been trying not to answer that question because i don't ever want to say never. but it is something that i haven't given much thought about. the suspension is for the rest of the season. so he can not play in the playoffs." he also said that they allowed him to practice with the team because it was some kind of way to get his life back, for him to work on a surrounding that he's comfortable in or something like that..

Let's say Stern DID relent and allow him to play in the Play Offs, would you REALLY be wanting to integrate a new player into the mix at that point?????? At the rate the team is getting in practices, he would have, what? 6? under his belt?

Stern said if his team made the playoffs he would consider letting him back. I remember seeing it in a interview

If Artest can play in the playoffs, then this will be a great trade for us. But the last i heard i thought that he couldn't.

So we should trade for a guy that won't play the entire season?

So lets say he can play in the playoffs. We toss him on the court as a starter without ever playing a single game with this team. Not to mention his first game with the team would be a playoff game.

I don't think so.

I heard and read the same thing and I believe that Indiana is counting on him playing in the playoffs should they make it. My gut feeling tells me that he will be allowed to play in the playoffs should they make it.

He's left the door open, but has never said yes. If he did it would have been all over the news.

What is the thing that makes Ron Artest a super-hero all of a sudden?

I cannot believe the way some people are willing to bank the chances of the Kings this year on some guy who won't have played since THE INCIDENT, even if he is allowed to play and I think Stern made it pretty clear he's not going to let him.

Last I knew, the guy hasn't fed the multitudes with one fish and he hasn't walked on water.

He's a player, a player with a LOT (as in cartloads) of baggage AND he's currently suspended for the rest of the season.

Before his latest lunacy, he was a viable alternative. Now, IMHO, it's rather pathetic to see how willing some Kings fans are to hook this team's future to the coming of the great and powerful Artest.

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Feb. 25 with an emotional investment I have not felt since I was 9 years old and was POSITIVE I was getting that beautiful new Schwinn bike, complete with basket and rack on the back. (I got the bike, BTW.)

SK24 - Whatever.

He's not coming here. Geoff Petrie would be run out of town on a rail if he made a trade for him that took away an active, productive Pedja and brought a SUSPENDED Artest who can't even play this year.

I'd like to hear some opinions from someone who isn't wearing Artest-colored glasses, thank you very much.

A Playoff series is NOT a good time for a brand new player to adjust to a new team, especially since he wouldn't even be in game shape.

I wonder if there is a Pacer fan forum somewhere that is contantly bombarded with "Peja will be our savior" threads.

The grass is always greener, the grass is alway greener...

I just spent some time reading at PacersDigest.com, a great Pacers board whose head honcho, Hicks, sometimes posts here.

There's a thread talking about rumors of Artest going to Memphis, but the majority of Pacer fans aren't talking about him leaving to go anywhere, and I saw absolutely NO MENTION of Pedja.

Not an opinion, just letting you all know what I found.

:D

Thats true, even I was thinking about it. It will be difficult to integrate him. But if he is allowed to practice with the team it might be easier.

Like I alluded to in my earlier post, just because he was allowed to practice with the team, doesn't mean he would actually GET much practice with the team. Practices during the course of the season are, unfortunately, few and far between. Nor do they replicate actual game play.

Okay, let me see if I have this straight:

People are complaining about Cuttino not knowing all the plays, etc. and not cutting him any slack EVEN though he's on the team but a few members are going to overlook any shortcomings Artest might have as we go INTO THE BLEEPING PLAYOFFS and he has never played with the team in a game situation?

Please, someone - anyone - just shoot me now.

Just to see what would happen, I posted a question at PacersDigest, asking how they would feel about a Pedja for ARtest trade. Here's one comment:

Same as I thought before; No thanks

Ron may be a head case, but so was Rodman and I know of a few others that were rather succesfull in the league after getting at leat a part of their act together, Ron is talentwise in a different class then Peja, and who is to say Peja is not going to throw tantrums if he's traded to the Pacers, he has created that image of himself so now he can stay where he is.

http://www.pacersdigest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9668&page=2&pp=25

able brings up something that I don't think we've thought of before. Pedja's trade demand this past summer might actually have soured some fans of other teams on him. How ironic is that?

Do they have the power to knock me out until the trade dead-line is over? OH! I have to come to long enough, and at the right intervals, to watch the Kings games. Is that doable???
