Why no Jimmer at the end?

"You don't put a cold player into a tough spot in a game that close."

Coach Smart's response to the post-game question just struck me as a clear indication that this guy gets it. In fact, I'm becoming more and more convinced that Smart was a very smart hire, to use what I know is an already old and tired saw.

We're seeing the beginning of something special. I can feel it in my bones.

Yes, this is a blatant purple-tinted glasses, homer fan point of view. Deal with it.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!

There is no doubt that the Kings have started playing better on both ends of the court since they have been getting practices under thier belts. It is just so hard to change an entire system for a team with almost no practice time.

Coach Smart certainly sounds intelligent when he is speaking. I am encouraged by what he's done with little practice. I particularly like that he's making an effort to work with Tyreke.

Especially if that player is a rookie who looks a little shaky. You ride out the players who have done well when the game is close. I like that Smart seems to be learning from his mistakes just as quickly as the players. Positive trend.

Smart is having the opposite effect Westy had, where multiple guys are starting to play up to their talent level whereas with Westy everyone was performing well below it. Can definitely see his teaching starting to translate onto the court. Guys have been looking for comfortable lately in what they're supposed to do, and the movement on offense is night and day. Still nervous about Smarts love for small ball though.

As for Jimmer, don't mean to be crude but tough luck. IT it appears has jumped him in the pecking order, maybe for a night, maybe not, but either way IT earned it through his play. The team is playing better and came out on top tonight against a good vet team. Put your head down, work hard in practice and be ready for your next opportunity.

No big deal, IT has played well and I always got the sense Jimmer wasn't very comfortable playing the Blazers. They are physical and he isn't fond of physicality. I am sure he will play soon enough. Would have liked to see DMC more, but Smart went with the players who got the lead back and it paid off. A good choice!

Not just physical, they are also extremely long and athletic. Jimmer will get killed by them on defense.

Well, his defense is a work in progress pretty much against anyone at this point. It will improve in time, but currently whenever he is on the floor, teams target that match up immediately.

Yeah that is a dumb question to ask by the reporter, he hadnt played all game so who in their right mind would bring him in unless the team was sucking and needed a change of pace. Ride those that got you there, just like Warriors did in the 4th last game.

Also the reporter doesnt really follow the games much, Jimmer has been playing mostly 1st and 3rd qtrs when Thorton was out.

Is it really that hard to understand why Jimmer didn't play?

Its a numbers crunch. That simple.

Thornton is back which meant that one of IT or Jimmer would be the odd man out. Thomas has outplayed Jimmer all year, so Thomas got the nod. If Jimmer wants playing time then he'll have to play better. A little competition is fine, particularly between a bunch a young players.

I didn't recognize the reporter's voice, so I'm guessing it wasn't one of the veterans. Newbie reporters can ask incredibly dumb questions. ;)

I hope for once our FO does the smart thing (pun fully intended) and doesn't go get a Larry Brown/Sloan type coach. Smart is a long-term solution type of coach and to give up on him without giving an offseason to work with the guys would be a horrible mistake. He's got these guys playing at a much higher level and I wouldn't be surprised if we hovered around .500 the rest of the way if we avoid injuries

Yeah, I was thinking the match ups just were not the best for Jimmer, as we have seen a couple times this year against POR. Too bad, I thought he was really starting to play well.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that if it had been IT who didn't play LOTS of folks would be asking questions. But when it's Jimmer no one bats an eye. This forum just doesn't seem to like Jimmer much.

It depends if Jimmer played well or not. If Jimmer played like crap (like he has most of the year) then I would question what the reasoning behind not giving IT minutes. As it is currently, IT is the more valuable player to this team and deserves the 3rd guard minutes with Thornton healthy again

Conversely, I think he is liked just fine by most. I bought a Jimmer t-shirt. But when you get outplayed, you sit. And I have no problems with that.

Hard to get outplayed when you don't play. He played very well in the Utah game. Got taken out after the 1st quarter of the GS game even though he had 5 points, and is DNP tonight.

You bought a t-shirt? I got a jersey, so you know how little regard I must have for him.

I personally have no problem whatsoever seeing neither DMC or Jimmer get minutes in a game like this. Coach Smart made the decisions a good coach needs to make. Hayes, JT and IT were working well and were winning the game for us. You don't put bigger names on the court just because they are bigger names. You put the guys on the court that are winning and working well together.

DMC will be back next game getting his minutes and Jimmer will be just fine. Great game tonight Coach Smart! #MakingMeAFan

I want us to win basketball games. I don't care who is on the court. If we are playing the last 5 on the bench and winning, so be it. I want Jimmer to play, but if the guys in front of him are helping us win, he can sit and take in the moment.

Sometimes it's good to sit instead of forcing your way though a tough stretch. Jimmer will be just fine and his time will come.

Because IT has been Balling!!! And Thornton is back plus the real John Salmons showed up. DMC was up leading cheers.

PS Jimmer will get his in time

i don't bat an eye because jimmer has not been playing that well. he has recently showed modest improvement on the offensive side of the ball, but he's still the most glaring defensive sieve on a team full of 'em. damn near every guard he plays across from seems to present a matchup nightmare for the kings. it was right there in the scouting report. everybody knew he wasn't going to defend well in the nba, but so far, its been worse than many had feared. if the kings were a stronger defensive team, it wouldn't matter too much. but they are not a strong defensive team, so it matters quite a lot...

i think that jimmer needs to mull over this fact for awhile: he, the 10th pick in the 2011 draft, is being outplayed by the 60th pick in the 2011 draft. i don't say that out of spite. i don't dislike jimmer. i don't even know the guy. i do want to see him succeed because he's a sacramento king. i hope the fact that isaiah thomas has been eating up his minutes will motivate jimmer to rise to the challenge. but, more than any of that, i want to see the team win. and, to this point, i think the team puts itself in a stronger position to win when jimmer is on the bench. he belongs on the court in brief spurts at this stage of his career, and as a spot-up shooter rather than a primary ballhandler. he's a dead-eye from three. he should be playing off the ball so he can be put in a position to do what he does best, and what would be most beneficial for his team: drill the outside shot. he's got good sense for where to move the ball, but he gets flustered as a ballhandler, and his decision-making when faced with defensive pressure is very, very poor. he forces himself into lots of bad shots...

isaiah thomas, on the other hand, has been aggressive and relatively consistent of late. his toughness and fearlessness represent intangibles hard to find in a late second round pick, much less the final pick in a given draft. he's an ideal kinda bench player. in other words, thomas has earned those minutes. jimmer, unfortunately, has not. its no good to rush him onto the court just because he was the 10th pick in the draft, especially to the detriment of the team...

COUGH COUGH I recall a certain someone always bringing in Quincy Douby (who hadn't played all game) for the last play.

Two different scenarios. The one your referring too is when the team is down and needs a shot. Last night you could bring Jimmer in to hit free throws when they had to foul.
