WHY? Kevin Martin left-off all-star ballot

Starter
I just filled in my first all-star ballot for the year and Kevin Martin is not listed; what is going on? I added him as a write in, but what does the guy have to do to get some respect from the league?

I know it's basically just a popularity contest but the questions I have are why are all star ballots out 2 weeks into the season and why are you filling one out 2 weeks into the season  ????

Bryant, Nash, McGrady, Bibby, Allen, Cassell??? who was the other Western Conference guard you found fit to share the all star backcourt with Kevin? Just curious.

Write in vote for Kevin

Here is all-star ballot link

Lets get up a grass-roots movement to write in Kevin Martin. Voting can be done online above AND using your cell phone. As stated on the NBA site:

Go Mobile with your NBA All Star Vote!
Simply point your browser to the NBA Mobile Site at wap.nba.com and select "All-Star Ballot" from the main menu. If you are a T-mobile subscriber, check out the ballot in t-zones under "Hot Picks" and you are a click away from your selections.

I did mine. Did you vote yet for Kevin?

Bryant, Nash, McGrady, Bibby, Allen, Cassell???

At this point, it's all just names.

Have any of those players really outshined Kevin this year or are they just more well-known and popular? (REMEMBER THE KEY IS "THIS YEAR")

Right now, and that's only 6 games in so it doesn't mean anything really, KMoney is averaging close to 24 and 5 (while shooting almost 55%). That's worthy of being mentioned in any of the crowd above.

Again, the stats don't mean anything this early, but if you had to pick someone based on performance at this point in the season - KMoney is a fair choice. The only players that have performed betteror on an equal level are Allen, Bryant and Nash.

im as high up on martin as the next guy, but as packed as the western conference is this year, the guards are packed even tighter in the all star ballots. its not about "this year." its more about, whos flashier, and who was a snub who can clear some headway to FINALLY getting an all star nod. while i agree that kev mart is playing as well as anybody, he still doesnt have the REPUTATION of a big name, or a game changer. the names on the list...

bryant, cp4, nash, ray allen, tmac, jason richardson, bibby(even thats a large push), jason terry, baron davis, manu. this is just western conference... you tell me who they knock off to put in kevin.

all star is all about politics, popularity, and seniority. id rather push for bibby, even though he hasnt shined too much because of his wrist so far. bibby doesnt have too many years left to be in all star contention, and were trying to get kevin in now? the kid will have his turn, i am sure of it. just not this year (doesnt hurt to write him in though)

we vote in the starters, and then the coaches pick the backups... no way the entire county of sacramento can pull enough to outnumber kobe, nash, and chris paul. and thats the end of that. as for being picked as a reserve, no panel will have a majority for third year swingman kevin martin.

We don't have to outnumber Kobe, Nash, et al, but if we get 200,000+ write in votes for Kevin, it will be a recognition. Remember we each can vote once EVERY DAY. My wife and I have a reminder system at our two offices so we will vote every day. That will be about 80 days times 2 a day = 160 votes from us. If we get 2,000 KingsFans folk to do 100 votes each, thats 200,000 votes!!!! We could have an uprecedented quantity for a write in

Then it's up to the coach of the west. What the heck. Lets pitch in and do it!! :D

when you do all this, remember to keep putting biby on the ballot too. i know at this point in the season (which is barely anything), bibby hasnt played like an all star, but i would much rather have him there in vegas than kevin martin.

All this stuff about the all-star balloting just amuses me. I don't care if Kevin gets any votes. What I care about is that he continues to shine on the court for the Kings. There is no rhyme or reason or logic to all-star balloting because it's strictly a popularity contest AND you can vote as many times as you want to if you're willing to take the time to clear the cookies from your computer. And there are lots of people out there who write little programs to avoid the cookies so they can cast thousands of votes.

I don't think Kevin is worried about being on the all-star ballot right now. I think he's interested in showing that he IS the right choice to be our starting two-guard now and in the future. And that's what I care about, too.

This is Kevin's third year in the league. He has a bright future in front of him. Let's enjoy every step along the way...

yahoo has a who's hot and who's not list for every position. WHY has Martin not made the hot list yet??????

Don't Forget about Ron either. His D alone should make him an all star this year (league leader in steals!).

Look at these names they decide to include and not Kev Martin:

Raja Bell - 5th Option on the team when he's on the floor...

Sam Cassell - Back up PG for the Clippers...Where's Livingston?

Juan Dixon - Maybe one of the top 5 worst guards in the league

Michael Finley - Does he even average 10ppg now?

Eddie Jones - ...

Luke Ridnour - Right there with Juan Dixon, but one of the top 5 worst starting PGs in the league, Eric Snow holding #1.

My first ballot:
West Forwards: Tim Duncan, Zach Randolph
West Guards: Baron Davis, Steve Nash
West Center: Yao Ming

East Forwards: Lebron James, Paul Pierce
East Guards: Joe Johnson, Dwayne Wade
East Center: Dwight Howard

Write In: Kevin Martin, although I think his current 20+ppg will eventually lower to around 17-18ppg.

Bryant? Bryan is on cruise control on about 75% right now - he is not performing at an all star level yet.

Baron Davis is the top Guard in the west right now.

Can you even vote for 11 ppl? :D

I know when I voted, i voted for 1 guard and had Kevin as a write-in... but my ballot didnt even show him.

You might want to double-check your research there.

Every time I turn on the Clippers on League Pass, it is Cassell lighting it up and making a difference for them.

He is scoring 20 pts, 5 assists, 4 boards in 32 minutes per game.

Maybe Livingston is the guy of the future and maybe Cassell is ugly and easy to not like - but it is just inaccurate to suggest that he is merely a backup pg and/or doesn't deserve to be on the all star ballot.

He's actually kind of grown on me over the years... I do like guys who want the shot and can knock it down when it counts (like Bibby, Martin, AND Sam Cassell).

As a general rule, I don't care about All-Star voting any more than I care about power rankings... The one thing that I do object to is the precedent; I can't recall any other point in the history of the All-Star Game that a starter was left off the ballot before now.

Well, based on his shots per game, he's the fourth option. And, seeing as how he starts and Barbosa doesn't, that actually would most likely make him the third option "when he's on the floor."

Sam Cassell - Back up PG for the Clippers...Where's Livingston?
Cassell has started every game he's played for the Clippers this season except for one.

Juan Dixon - Maybe one of the top 5 worst guards in the league

Use hyperbole much? One of the five worst guards in the League? In the League? There may be five worse guards on the Portland Trailblazers!

Luke Ridnour - Right there with Juan Dixon, but one of the top 5 worst starting PGs in the league, Eric Snow holding #1.
You're not very astute, are you? One of the top 5 worst starting PGs in the league? 15.8 points and 6.5 assists? 51% from the field, 50% from three, 95% from the line? 11 and 6.5 over his last three years, close to 10 and 5 for his career and rising... that's bottom 5 in the whole league? Are you chemically imbalanced?

Nash, Diaw, Marion, Amare, Raja - Raja is the 5th option.

Who cares? Really? Kevin Martin deserves the nod over J.Dixon

You're not very astute, are you? Are you chemically imbalanced?

You make some valid points, but your continued attacks cancels it out. You are obviously very emotionally troubled...have you been taking your meds?
