The Detroit Pistons have spurned the Dallas Mavericks' efforts to acquire small forward Tayshaun Prince -- at least for now. The Mavs offered the Pistons swingman Caron Butler and a 2011 first-round pick for Prince before today's 3 p.m. deadline, according to a person close to the situation. Butler is out for the season with an injury, but he has an expiring deal, so the trade, basically, would be Prince for the pick. Prince also has an expiring contract.

I don't know. They didn't move Hamilton either, after benching him in what seemed to be a move to keep him healthy for a move. Been a long long time since people were talking about Joe D as a great young GM.

Woj is reporting that Detroit was negotiating with Cleveland to send them Rip for a 1st, but it fell apart when he wouldn't agree to a buyout. DET may have thought it had a better deal somewhere else that fell apart at the last minute. Or (less likely) they made a trade that just hasn't been reported yet (though I doubt it)

Er...that doesn't make much sense. Why would Cleveland trade a first for a guy, and then buy him out? Only makes sense if Detroit was willing to attach a 1st to Rip's hip like a carrier pigeon, and then Cleveland was going to absorb his salary and buy him out in exchange for the pick.
