The Detroit Pistons have spurned the Dallas Mavericks' efforts to acquire small forward Tayshaun Prince -- at least for now. The Mavs offered the Pistons swingman Caron Butler and a 2011 first-round pick for Prince before today's 3 p.m. deadline, according to a person close to the situation. I don't know. They didn't move Hamilton either, after benching him in what seemed to be a move to keep him healthy for a move. Been a long long time since people were talking about Joe D as a great young GM.

Woj is reporting that Detroit was negotiating with Cleveland to send them Rip for a 1st, but it fell apart when he wouldn't agree to a buyout. DET may have thought it had a better deal somewhere else that fell apart at the last minute. Or (less likely) they made a trade that just hasn't been reported yet (though I doubt it)

Er...that doesn't make much sense. Why would Cleveland trade a first for a guy, and then buy him out? Only makes sense if Detroit was willing to attach a 1st to Rip's hip like a carrier pigeon, and then Cleveland was going to absorb his salary and buy him out in exchange for the pick.
