Who will the Kings draft?

I would love for the Kings to draft Joey Graham. Some mock drafts have him as a late first round pick so I think we have a good chance at him. I really hope Petrie is aware of this guy cuz I think he would really help us alot. He kind of reminds me of a young Corliss Williamson. And he plays defense too.

Heres a scouting report on him- http://www.draftcity.com/viewprofile.php?p=88

Wayne would be awesome, and you can't go wrong with another KU guy. He's smart, he's big (for a PF), he's unselfish. He's been injured, and he's probably not the most athletic guy in the draft, not a shotblocker. If we can get him though, I say go for it.

What a ringing endorsement

I would prefer getting a wing/swing player who can play defense or a point guard. We have Corliss/Thomas/Skinner/Miller/Songaila and Tag that share the minutes at the 4/5 position. Not sure what that another power forward who doesn't bring anything that we don't already have helps.

Argh, ye cut me quote in two. I was trying to be balanced. As for the "another Power Forward" angle, do you really expect all those guys you named to be here next year? When Geoff Petrie has all but admitted his main reason for getting half of them was so that he could split up Webb's contract into tradable pieces?

Of course Petrie is "aware of this guy" as well as being aware of about 1,000 other guys that you and I have never heard of. I used to worry about the draft, but with Petrie at the helm I don't worry about it at all anymore, even if he ends up picking someone who I have never heard of in my life.

You mean like Peja? :)

Last time I looked at some of the mock drafts (several days ago), they seem to think the Kings will take either a PF or SG. I believe the Kings have no second round choice this year.

It is simply impossible to tell, and the mock draftists have no shot at figuring it out either, because I can only assume the pick is going to depend on what our overall offseason plan is. With almost anybody possibly on the move depending on how Petrie decides to approach it, things are wide open with that pick. Just please don't let it be another undersized forward.

You want to go with another undersized center, then? :)

Totally agree. Who knows what tentative plans Petrie has regarding possible trades or free agent availability. And Geoff must be great at poker, because I don't think there's a another GM around who plays his cards so close to the vest.

i hopee they get wayne simien hes tha anser to all r problems

NEWS FLASH
WAYNE SIMIEN IS STAYING WITH KANSAS ONE MORE YEAR
i kinda like that cuz i live in kansas

but i guess the kings will get him next year

I'll be suprised if more than two or three of those guys are back next year. Don't go thinking we are settled anywhere.

I think the Kings will look to add to the backcourt, pick someone who can play the point and defend but has some size and could play either backcourt spot. NBADraft.net has Jarret Jack going at #29 and I have a hard time envisioning the Kings passing him over. I also have a hard time believing that he'll last past the teens, so I'd be pretty satisfied if he was there for the Kings at #23.

Not really a fan of Simien. He's kind of a stupid player, doesn't demand the ball in the post the way he should, REALLY injury prone, and plays suspect defense. Graham would be a solid selection, as would Garcia for the 2 spot. But, it's hard to predict what position we target in the draft. I think we trade Peja and Corliss for a PF or OG, and use our pick to fill the other spot, with Kenny Thomas moving to the SF spot.

I'm not interested in Warrick. He's a good offensive player, but no Syracuse guy can play any real D, no matter how spectacular some of his weak-side shot blocks look. Besides, in this draft he is a Top 5 pick.

I'd really like to see us go with a college junior or senior from a top program. These Euro and small school projects have to stop for a couple years. They panned out early in the rebuilding process, but lately have been a total wash. If Felton leaves I would jump all over him, although he should stay since there will be a lot more shots for him next year without the overrated McCants waiting around to heave up garbage.

I would not be in the least surprised to see the draft pick go as part of a trade package.

You may be right. That or Petrie could trade up in the draft, but I doubt that one. Anyways it will be interesting to watch the draft this year!, maybe Petrie will do stuff like Dallas did last year, they got Stackhouse and Devin Harris on that day.

Petrie eally doesn't seem to like drefting guys nearly as much as trades/free agency. I would be surprised if he didn't trade the pick away actually. But I would like to see a rookie come in thats a little more highly touted than Special K!

I think the kings have their eyes on this guy from Virginia.

No real jumping ability, and a bum ankle are his downsides. On the other hand, he is 37 years old, at 6'1" kinda undersized for a PG, but he has all the ball handling skills of a Center.

(I'll sign for the rookie minimum also...)

I think the draft will play a very small part in the kings immediate (next season) future. We draft too late to get an impact player . Our off season moves that really matter will be through free agency and/or trades. This team is too veteran-based to depend upon this years draft.

I don't know, I think you guys are undervaluing the draft. Who have we gotten from the draft? Peja. Jason Williams -> Mike Bibby. Turkoglu (+Pollard) -> Brad Miller. That's the core of our team right there. Songaila was obtained with our draft pick. Gerald Wallace would have been a decent trading piece if they didn't let him go. Kevin Martin seems to have a future with the team. The guys we draft may not become our future starters, but they can still be very valuable if they bring us other players. Bringing in guys and developing them so that you get a bigger return on your investment, that's how you build a team and make it better. We're no longer at the point where we'll draft a major impact player, but that doesn't mean we can't use that draft pick to improve the team. And plenty of useful guys have been drafted later than the mid-low twenties pick we'll have. Just look it up yourself:

NBA Draft History

One of the things that impresses me about San Antonio is their eye for talent. Parker was drafted at the very end of round 1 in 2000 (it did take some time for him to develop). Ginobili was just an unsigned player they picked up, I believe. Pretty amzing, to me.

Beno Udrih was picked up last year at the end of the first round as well and he looks pretty good.

Gino was a second rounder. But yep -- San Antonio has drafted as well, if not better, than any team in recent years given their draft position. We've actually been pretty mediocre. Not bad. Just nothing special -- most of our picks have performed almost exactly like you would expect a pick at thier position to perform.

It's usually futile trying to guess who's going to be taken in the 20s. Might as well make a short list of candidates who Petrie might take.
